It’s the cast of familiar characters “we all love” in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 like Soap and Price that gives it the edge over Battlefield 3, says Michael Condrey of Sledgehammer Games.
who is Michael Condrey? better yet who is Sledgehammer Games and why do they think they are at DICE's level before even putting out a game?
Their CEO & VP was developing Dead Space.
Because BF2 is BF3 with pretty graphics @pandamobile true to that
No. I dont think the characters will have any weight for someone when deciding between BF3 and MW3. lol
80% of the experience is in the multiplayer.
Plus, Price was really cool in CoD4 but he became a shell of himself by mw2. And soap too. The story was just all over the place in mw2.
Yeahhh... And the story in CoD4: MW was about killing the same bad guy TWICE, so... And back onto the topic: There are no characters in MW. There are soldiers.
Battlefield 3's everything is why its better than Modern Warfare 3 :p
If you have to start grabbing at pathetic reasons for thinking your games gonna be better it's probably not a good sign of things to come.
Modern Warfare 3 - Character centric, high octane Hollywood-esque story. Battlefield 3 - Event driven combat Drama, like Hurt Locker or Black Hawk Down. So saying MW3 has better characters than BF3 is pretty much stating the obvious.
Your right. I can see bf3 characters being less involved than the hollywood style of COD
What's Funny is that Call of Duty used to be like that. Where you were just a small part in a larger conflict. Now, it's about some super human people doing EVERYTHING on their own! What call of Duty are you responding to in the games now?
Believe it or not, hurt locker was supposed to be a character study not an event driven piece. Didn't quite make it up to par in that area though. Not bad. Just not that great.
Completely right... I pressed Agree on Panda before reading the last three words.... And also, I loved Hurt Locker.
It's not a perfect example but you know what I mean.
That's assuming that people want those types of hollywood characters. The only person I ever got particularly attached to in the MW games was Price, mostly because I loved his stache.
It's all about the beards, right? Epic beards bro, that's how you get epic characters.
Considering a vast majority of people who play COD dont even play the story, it kind of makes his point a moot one.
I agree. I remember simply burning through the campaign on MW2 and skipping all the story parts. I'm still only part way through the story on Black Ops. If I were to pick up MW3 I probably wouldn't even touch the campaign unless there was avatar unlocks or something worthwhile.
Ow, that title makes me brain hurts. Whatever, I preordered BF3. Haven't bought a CoD game since 4.
How does anyone know what the BF3 characters are? BF:BC2 had much more interesting and developed characters than COD IMO. COD just plain doesn't have enough dialogue to get to know the characters.
I would disagree heavily. BC2 ruined the characters it created in bc. The whole character change and become serious when they are not I would agree that we do not know the vibe from the trailer that the character will be not as hollywoodish. I think this might be a mistake especially if they want emotion
I thought they were all pretty damn funny still. The dialogue during calm moments on the game is fucking golden. And sometimes it was even deep and let you see more about the characters traits: http://www.youtube.com/watc... http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Hey ignorant moron, no one knows because there are no character story in all BF series. They are only dummy soldiers put into the game with lame dialogues. Your pinhead brain can't even name one and you said BF has characters. You're a poo.
CoD has great characters, sure, but part of the appeal of Battlefield's story, from what I can tell, is that it puts you in the shoes of an average soldier, and keeps the action relatively realistic. Much like CoD4's campaign up until after the *spoiler* nuke went off. After that it seemed to go full-blockbuster up until the finale.
except for the part then you face and endless barrage of grenades?
Actually the avrerage soldier wouldn't be able to survive a conflict of that magnitude. You play a fictional hero who can take down enemies one after another in these kind of combat games, and that doesn't look very realistic to me as things doesn't work that way in real life. So yeah, you play as an average soldier who is immune to thousands of bullets and recovers health magically by just hiding for a couple of seconds, which sounds like a "superhero" to me than your average soldier. Just had to state this fact here.
Fair enough, this isn't brought up a lot. I don't really know how to respond, but you bring up a good point about realism in such an unrealistic game.
Hey Cpt Obvious, we all know a "average soldier" doesn't regen health. But alot of the modern fps games we are playing are based on real events, and/or have consultants that are ex or current military.
I'm not trying to be captain obvious, nor implying that BF3 is an unrealistic and bad game. What I'm trying to tell is that comparing these two games based on the criteria of realism does not work too well as they are both unrealistic to a degree. It's like comparing a unicorn with a big foot. Not sure what the disagrees are about though, I never said they were not enjoyable at all.
LOL the majority of gamers today don't even care about the single player campaign anymore. They jump straight to the online multiplayer. The only game where I care about the characters are in the Resistance and Uncharted games. COD is all about the multiplayer.
That is a HUGE assumption. I know a lot of people that prefer to beat single player, or at least get partway through, before playing MP.
whoa! i dont even know where to begin...soap? not memorable at all! price? come on...if this is the ammo they think will be enough to edge over BF3 than that is sad, jackie from the darkness is even more memorable than those 2!
Not memorable and you were able to name the two, what a moron you are. Tell me, are there any characters worth mentioning in the BF series? Big flat zero.
i was able to name them because their mentioned in the article dickwad
Characters?? Who gives two shits about that??
LMAO seriously (Viewtiful Joe voice ) thats his only reason there are tons of reasons why BF is better then MW3 but I will be at it all day !!
The visible PC hardcore idiots only care about multiplayer. I'd like to remind all PC fanboys that there are more players who like playing the single player campaign.
