XMNR: Microsoft has just announced the following deal with Bethesda Softworks for DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Syrim in the same vein as DLC for the Call of Duty series.
oh MS you and your timed exclusives. "The first two add-on content drops for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be releasing exclusively on Xbox 360, 30 days before it’s available anywhere else." this sort of stuff bugs me but I suppose I can wait 30 days to play more of this epic game, because we all know it will be amazing
hmmmm... i hate Timed Exclusives...
So do I, it's not fair on the people who don't have 360s as almost all timed exclusives are for the 360. Looks like my mind has been made up for me on which version I'm getting.
what is wrong with Timed Exclusives, i feel like im Buying Something used, or second hand... and, you are spoiled. I own both consoles, but my main console is PS3
I don't see why this matters. Most people would noe even be close to finishing Skyrim in 30 days.
haha... you are subestimating
that's the cost of choosing free online service...
This doesn't make me want an xbox...just dislike microsoft more.
I hate DLC, I'm sure this should have been included in the retail game. This generation sucks
@bigpappy they never said the dlc was gonna be released on the first day the game comes out so it may be months later...so it can be released a few months later....but still im pretty sure there are some SPECIAL(no lives) people that will finish the game in 30 days
@Organization XII Not enough space on the 360's DVD. What they should have done is given it for free to other versions and made 360 users have to pay for it - just to spite M$.
DLC announced before the game even releases is rediculous. Its like they are rubbing it in our faces that they will not include everything they made so they can make a quick buck or to. Maybe I'll just wait until the DLC is out before I buy it . .. and maybe I'll just get it used. Way to go Bethesda . . . you are now EA.
meh xbox 360 gets the dlc early because it's the better console... it's really common sense here, and the obvious choice.
So I assume they are beta testing the DLC on 360...
I'm getting it for the 360 anyway so doesn't really bother me.
Same. But I'm also getting the pc version for the mods
I never understood why someone would get 2 copies of the same game especially if there is no mp.
i own like 4 copies of bc2. bought one on steam pre-order but steam didn't have a pre-load at launch and d2d did so I bought a d2d version. the other two came during the 7.99 steam sales. that said i'm gettin pc version. in orther words I'm getting free DLC pumped out daily
i have a bunch of games that i've brought for 360 and re-purchased them on pc. ME1/2,oblivion,saintrow 2,GTA1-4,ect. i mostly play on pc but my bro and friends play on console and we trade games at times unless we all buy the same game. until i can fully convince them to come over to pc and play with K/M(which i've already got my bro doing). plus i like getting my achievements points up and comparing them with friends. but thats just me
"I never understood why someone would get 2 copies of the same game especially if there is no mp." To support the devs. I bought Bioshock on 360 first, then paid 30 bucks for it on ps3 (and platinum'd it), then purchased it for 5 bucks on Steam. Then again Bioshock IS my favorite game. Replaying a game on a different platform kind of makes it feel like a new game.
This is so dumb. Microsoft should be investing in actual development studios to bring some quality, awesome exclusive titles that push hardware sales and keep their existing fanbase happy. HEY CALL OF DUTY AND SKYRIM NOW HAVE TIMED DLC but at least they have all those Kinect games coming right? After Gears and the 7 more Halo remakes/sequels there isn't anything else :\ Edit: This is coming from a PS3 only gamer, just to show that everyone, regardless of platform of choice, should have games to reinforce their choice of console, not garbage shovelware. Oh and also, my last edit: We have so many damn exclusives on the PS3 this is good anyway for us PS3 only gamers. The Playstation Nation has a ton of exclusives to keep it thriving, I just feel bad for our 360 only brothers.
Don't feel bad for me. I have plenty of games to play. Gears 3, Dead Island, RAGE, Skyrim, Saints Row 3, Assassins Creed Revelations, Battlefield 3, Halo CE, Forza 4 etc. I don't care if you can play the some of the same games as me, I care what I can play. And what I can play, will keep me busy for quite some time.
Timed DLC = lack of exclusive great games. Weak MS....weak!
lol what, ps3 doesn't have "so many damn exclusives" - it just has more good ones than the 360. Having more than the 360 doesn't really say much when you realise that last-gen consoles had thousands of exclusives (games made by gamers, for gamers. The shovelware was usually PS2 exclusive too because of the install base - but along side the thousands of great exclusives). But in the context of this console generation, you are quite right.
@Schobeleth jealous much....
Get it for 360 then. This doesn't bother me at all as I planned on getting the 360 version anyway. Win-win for me ^_^
Well, now I know what game I'm going to hold off on out of the many coming out this fall. Never by a Elder Scrolls game until the DLC is released. Edit: Primarily because it's likely to have DLC that works best when played through rather than tacked on at the end and that annoys the heck out of me with RPGs; playing it kind of out of synch.
I tend to hold of on bethesda games til a goty edition or at least til they finish patching it.
The goty edition will be a smarter purchase. but waiting for it is a battle I can not win.
While talking about elder scrolls dlc... Oblivion's "expansions" added like 10% extra gameplay to the game. Morrowind's expansions added about as much content as the entirety of Oblivion. If they follow that trend, what will Skyrim's dlc add exactly? Probably a new sword or something... so meh, no real need to feel any pressure to get the 360 version for timed dlc - unless of course they make it overpowered or look really cool just to make loads of people buy it like sheep (when it is just a 3D model, a texture and some bytes describing damage values etc.). Consider this: Launch DLC is minor content because it is extra stuff that had to be pruned near the end of development. In a proper development studio like Bethesda, every wasted minute is wasted money. They are a business - a software development company; they would have planned ahead to make sure that they don't waste too much time on content that wouldn't be in the game. Particularly when they are limited to a tiny DVD. So when they announce the proper DLC in a few months, Microsoft will 'force' them into another exclusivity deal, and that will be the one that makes a difference because it will be actual content.
Lol, I'm getting it for my ps3, when I saw the headline I thought "damn you Microsoft" then I realised it's only 30 days, haha, hardly worth announcing.. Still getting it for ps :)
It's not timed exclusivity, it's timed delay.
Dude, 30 days after the release for an elder scrolls game is like maybe one completed guild story for me. Even if its comes out a couple of months after release, I still won't be done with my first playthrough then. Microsoft does piss me off with these timed exclusives though. Instead of them trying to get me to buy the system for the DLC, it actually makes me disgusted with them more. Dumbest business tactic ever created.
oh my god freaking timed exclusive!! I was getting this game for PC and I still am getting it for PC, but this is just pissing me off. I don't know if microsoft realize what they're doing with their PC customers right now, but a lot of them won't like this.
At least it isn't like a year exclusive like FO3 was. It would've sucked if when I played FO3, I got stuck with the regular ending and not the broken steel one. Meh, whatever. I'd pass completely if it was spider dlc though. *shivers and wishes Skyrim didn't have spiders*
this really doesn't bother me at all just for the fact that im buying this game for all three, PC,360,PS3 so im good to go.
Cause he wants to, plain and simple.
cause his poor and ghetto people always over exaggerate what they own or going to own when there poor he probly doesnt have a PC, 360 or PS3 i bet he is sitting in some internet cafe crying on the inside about how much of a lie his life is.
Why boycott a developer that sees easy money. MS is dumb enough to pay millions for timed exclusive content and Bethesda is smart enough to know easy money when they see it without upsetting their fan base too much. That and most people will be to enthralled with Skyrim to be worried about it's DLC, maybe in a couple months people will start to download the DLC.
honestly its not that big a deal for as i planned to buy the game in december seeing as ill have a lot of other games to play/finish first. i can just play through my other games until completion then pick up skyrim and the dlc in one day.
i was too jumping on the stupid timed exclusive band wagon but i totally forgot about THE LEVEL CAP! i got to level 20 in no time for new vegas. i'll just have to pace myslef then.
30 days isn't that big a deal. I think the timed-exclusive DLC for FO:3 and FO:NV were longer than that, although I never played any of those. Given the release calendar for the next several months, I don't think I'll have any problem finding games to play.
Oh screw you Bethesda. Now I'm buying this game used for sure. I'll even rent it at red box for a couple of days and then just buy the GOTY edition next year for $20 bucks. Good day to you sirs!
I agree with you here, buying the game later or waiting for the inevitable GOTY edition that has all of the content from the beginning is the way to go. Although, I do highly anticipate this game and am dying to play it, there are still several other games due this fall/winter that will keep me busy
your loss.... day one for me!! xD
WOW look at all these whiners saying that they are not going to buy this game, just to let everyone know that alot of games are comeing out to keep people ocupied until the DLC drops, so just relax and play your damn games.
Last time I said the same thing and the fanboys got their vagina in a knot. I'm amazed you've got 34 agrees to 9 disagrees. I'm doing the same though. Renting it for the platinum, then maybe buying the GOTY edition. But thanks to the shit Bethesda are pulling again I'll be looking for a used copy. It's a pity, because bethesda make amazing core games, and I don't want developers like that to go out of business, but as long as they keep giving me the finger I'll be buying used.
All this timed exclusive crap needs to end
ture stories.. i dont realy see the point especially when the delay is so short..
Do they think this makes them look good? To me it just makes them look worse than they already do. <Enter Scumbag MS meme>
For the love of God. First CoD and now Skyrim, come one :( On second thought, it wont bother me, want to know why? It's because the game contains over 500+ hours of gameplay. That'll keep us busy while the DLC's drop to PS3. You know what I mean. :)
As a gamer, this sucks. I am no fanboy, but MS needs to get more first party studios so they don't have to buy DLC timed exclusives to screw other systems. This is getting ridiculous. Edit
Why spend more money on first party studios when they can get timed exclusives for cheaper? This isn't screwing over owners of another console any more than having Halo is screwing over PS3 or having Uncharted is screwing over 360. Third party has been a very important factor this generation, one that Nintendo abandoned long ago and one that Sony had a stranglehold on only a generation ago.
"This isn't screwing over owners of another console any more than having Halo is screwing over PS3 or having Uncharted is screwing over 360. " Actually it is. It's not using the strengths of the consoles, it's just them using money. This doesn't really sway anyone in getting this version over say, the PC one. All it really does is serve as an annoyance.
"This isn't screwing over owners of another console any more than having Halo is screwing over PS3 or having Uncharted is screwing over 360." Actually, it is. Halo was extra content funded by M$, that is, added content that was always intended just for the 360. This on the other hand, is M$ paying Bethesda just so that they will hold off from releasing it to PS3 owners for 30 days. There's no extra content being made, no new ip being developed, it's simply content that is being held from PS3 owners for no other reason than because M$ paid for that to happen. It's truely pathetic. The 2 scenarios are worlds apart. What M$ and Bethesda are doing is the definition of screwing over the other fanbase. So fuck 'em both.
even if MS had more first parties I bet they would still do this. They want their platform to have special treatment for some of the biggest multiplatform games. I doubt that this would change at all even if they had a bunch more exclusives. Im thinking they would still pay the extra cash to distinguish their version of certain big multiplats, as these multiplats are bigger than most exclusives from MS or sony.
Good part is, at least any bug that show up on the 360 one will be fix by the time it comes to PS3/PC. Other then that it sucks to wait, but theirs going to be alot of other games to play to kill the time.
Hahaha! Thanks for making me feel better :)
He he he...oh keep your panties on. Batman AA, Mafia 2, RDR, Dead Space 2 and MOH ALL had ps3 exclusive content that NEVER made it to xbox 360 so quit your crying cause this will at least make it to PS3
What makes it even more hypocritical that the people are moaning about timed DLC is that these are the same people who were praising Ubisoft for having a exclusive demo for assassins creed brotherhood and AC Revelations
And even then, you had people speaking against timed exclusive content so what was your point again? I. for one wouldn't want that going on for EITHER console. You guys cry wolf over PS3 fans and yet 360 fans get free passes. Whatever.
The difference here is Sony funded extra content for their platform. The key phrase there being "extra content". So 360 owners were still getting all the content that was originally intended for them at the originally intended time. So really they aren't getting screwed over at all. M$ on the other hand paid so that content that was originally intended for the PS3 was purposely withheld for a certain amount of time. They haven't funded any extra content, they've just paid money so that PS3 owners will miss out; quite deplorable. I can appriciate you see a double standard, but I think those 2 scenarios are very different.
Despite the timed exclusive stuff I'm still going to buy it for my PS3. I have a feeling though that PC version will also have to wait as well. But hey this is how MS does things. Instead of investing money in 1st party studios and some new IPs for something other than Kinect they would rather piss off a bunch of people. They think giving 360 owners timed exclusive dlc for games is enough to keep them happy. I feel sorry for people who only own a 360 honestly.
What a joke. Will wait and buy Skyrim used now.
Shock! Bethesda up to their usual slime.
You know, thinking about it, you can't blame Bethesda, Microsoft are probably paying a hefty sum for this, soooo Bethesda get more cash to invest in the next dlc, thus improving skyrim so thanks microsoft. I'm a ps3 gamer by the way :)
It's pretty retarded..... 30 days timed exclusive isn't going to make anyone go buy a 360 all it does is irritate those that buy it on other consoles or PC I personally will be buying it on ps3 as my PC won't be able to run it but what I don't get is ehy PC players lose out because of this too I mean they have the mods ect so anyone with a PC that can run it should in theory want it for that and the MODs outweigh the timed exclusivity by miles so really I can't see it doing much else than piss a few people off....
Ive got a ps3 now but after hearing how amazing all the Morrowind and Oblivion mods were I'll be getting a custom built gaming pc for when the GOTY version comes out to join in on the mod goodness.
Oh well, Doesn't bother me. Microsoft can't just keep wasting their money on timed exclusives. I worry about DLC once I have beaten the main quest.
