At $249: PS3 160GB vs. Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Bundle

Geek Revolt writes:

"A leaked image from Wal-Mart has revealed that the Xbox 360 4GB Kinect bundle is getting a price cut of $50, this makes it the same price as the 160GB PS3. So you know what that means, right? Let’s do a quick comparison of the two and see which one has the most bang for your $249."

Does the Xbox still only able to use Microsoft certified hard drives??? This is a problem with buying the 4gb models. The 250GB hard drives are double the price of a normal hard drive at the same specs.

DeeZee2585d ago

I'm not sure, but I think it can take regular hard drives now. Since I no longer see those add ons anywhere.

darthv722585d ago (Edited 2585d ago )

it needs official MS hdd's. However, you can use the original 20, 60 and 120's which you can find for cheap. Trick is you have to use them bare. I'm surprised Datel or Madcatz hasnt made a hdd caddy that is designed like the official one.

That way you can use an official MS hdd without the fear of damaging the drive when inserted.

As for the comparison. This isnt needed. If someone wants to get a ps3 they will get a ps3 and same goes for a 360 kinect system.

edit: I must correct myself. i guess you can buy just the hdd caddy. Here is one such place:

Because Gears, Halo, Forza, Fable etc. are not real games? What is the proper definition of a game? A Sony exclusive? Oh ok, I finally learned something new. Thanks!

Turn on your PS3 and enjoy it instead of trolling other systems. SMH

I bought an arcade slim on amazon and the same day I bought a 250gb hard drive (probably from china)for $50 instead of the $100 MS charges for theirs. It's been working fine without any problems. It's also been getting great reviews on amazon so if anyone is on the market for one, i'd recommend doing what I did. It'll save you cash.

"real games"...

Both systems have a very nice back catalog of games that meet a wide variety of personal preferences. Third party support for both systems is excellent and first party software is solid. There is no denying Sonys first party studios release more games, but that doesn't mean all of them are must haves for everyone, there is simply more variety among the first party offerings.

Kinect and Move are not for everyone. This doesn't make either bad or less hardcore. It simply expands the target audience for both consoles much like a price cut would. Casual gamers are a natural part of the console cycle. Playstation fans shouldn't be surprised by this. Last Gen the Playstation was king of casual with it's immense game library while the Xbox catered to the "hardcore".

I used a flashed hard drive from china. It works just fine. It cost me a little less than $50 on dealextreme. I'm sure the more tech savvy could buy a cheaper hdd and flash it themselves.

@PCE - I think he's debating the quality of the exclusives. It's his opinion at the end of the day, he's entitled to it, as are you.

It sells. Your damage control sucks. A lot of people don't even use XBL and its content. If they do purchase content they own the rights to that content, they do not need to store what they own on the console. I imagine most average consumers think storing retail games on the HDD is backwards and R ignorant of TEH benefits.

iamnsuperman2585d ago (Edited 2585d ago )

What damage control??? I actually do not see any reason from this article for anyone to do it. There is really no choice at the end either but only states what they both offer. I was only asking that is why I put those question marks there.

4 GB hard drive & DVD in 2011 is a very very annoying to gamers

M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L2582d ago

How is he damage controlling? iamnsuperman is probably the most straightforward person on this site. No, you're so paranoid about someone speaking against your precious Microsoft that you're lashing out in every possible way.

You're not a gamer at all.

I'd rather skip Kinect, pay less and get a 360 Slim 250gb. If I didn't have one already I'd go for the Gears of War 3 Limited Edition. It looks sick.

BrightFalls762585d ago

The only thing I don't like about the Gears Edition is that it is the shiny case. I am a big fan of the matte finish that both the PS3 Slim and 4GB Xbox sport.

JellyJelly2585d ago

Ah! I didn't know it had a shiny finish. I prefer matte as well.

Boody-Bandit2584d ago

Yeah drop the 250g Slim without Kinect to $249! That would definitely get me to pick up the Gears of War 3 bundled edition.

MOTY2585d ago (Edited 2585d ago )

The 360 is capable of using 2 8gb USB flash drives at the same time to take your 4gb 360 to a 20gb 360. They can be any USB flash, doesn't have to be an MS USB BUT only 8gb can be used per USB flash drive. So if you use a 16gb flash drive, only 8 can be used for the 360 from that one Flash drive.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/s...

There is also a very easy way where you can install the old 120 HDD and install it into your Slim.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

So it is possible to have a 4gb slim and upgrade it using either 2 USB flashdrives to give an extra 16gb or you can transfer your old fat 360 HDD drive and put it into your Slim 360.

Hope that helps iamnsuperman and answers any of your questions.

Dlacy13g2585d ago

@MOTY...actually I think you have it wrong. You can only do up to 16GB per flash drive.

"•You can format up to 16 GB of space on a USB flash drive."

http://support.xbox.com/en-...

MOTY2585d ago (Edited 2585d ago )

@ Dlacy13g

I stand corrected. So you can use up to 16gb of flash drive memory. It can either be 2 8gb Flash drives or up to 16gb on a single flash drive.

Either way, you can increase your 4gb Slim to a max of 20gb storage using either 2 8gb sticks or 1 stick up to 16gb using USB flash drives.

LOL @ all the disagrees. I submitted links for proof that a 4gb slim can either get up to a max of 20gb using the 4gb that comes with the 360 slim and 1-2 USB flash drives or simply just transfer your fat 360 HDD to your slim.

LOL this site cracks me up. So many delusional people that disregard facts so long as it suits their bias and hateful mentality.

Solidus187-SCMilk2585d ago

Im pretty sure you can have 2 flash drives with up to 16gb of space each for up to 32gb. You can also hook up an external HD but you can only use 16gb per external HD so its better to use a flash drive I guess.

IAmCornHolio2585d ago

I had a Kinect at one point but after the novelty wore off I sold it. I look at this generation of Kinect as more of a Beta phase, I'm more than willing to give Kinect a second look the next generation with 720 but as for now its just a novelty.

This is really about BR vs Kinect. Most don't really care about hard drive size. Yes, 4GB is ridiculous. But when parents shop this holiday season, they'll pick Kinect over memory every day. Wait for NPD. Hard drive size is a way of keeping prices up. Apple does it. Instead of selling you a 80GB iPod classic for cheap, they'll stop producing it, increase memory and keep the price high ($249).
