Bloodbath Generation: The Shocking Trend Of Studios Going Kaput

Ian Fisher writes: It may not seem like much, but when you take a moment to step back and look at things it’s shocking to realize how many studios have been shut down by their publishers or have merely folded due to financial strain. As someone who pays attention to the video game industry I’m completely accustomed to companies like EA shedding some of their work force despite it being a completely sucky situation for those involved. But in a way the constant firing of team members who worked on a 200+ person HD game or the closure of a studio because two of their licensed games sold poorly will just lead to the industry falling right on its face and left wondering what happened despite stepping into a massive hole that they saw coming a mile away.

That's what worries me about this holiday season , there are way too many great games coming out over the next few months.

All this competition could be bad for smaller companies, it'd be a shame to see anyone go out of business.

This sucks for the people that are going to school to study game design. Chances are most of them will never be able to find a career in the gaming industry. From what I have read, it seems that a lot of people are temps and when a game is done, they are out the door.
