Dusty PS3 Does Not Void Warranty; Filthy PS3 Does

The Consumerist has the tale of a PS3 owner who claims that Sony told him the dust on his console voided his warranty. Sony, however, saw it a bit differently. They claim that the PS3 in question wasn't just dusty, it was positively filthy:

"The examination of the unit in question that SCEA's service center conducted upon receiving it from the consumer revealed that it was the subject of extreme consumer abuse or neglect not covered by the PS3 warranty."

Sony took pictures of the PS3 to prove their point...

(Please note: the picture accompanying this post is not a picture of the PS3 in question. It's just another dusty PS3.)

Having dust gathering on the out side of you system does not break the unit. Your not allowed to open up the unit to clean it. You can clean it all you want on the out side and it will not keep it from breaking. I would like to know what the inside looks like as there is no way to keep dust out unless you put a filter on it of some sort. You guys really need to think about this as I don't believe dusty would kill(less than a year old) a system unless he is throwing dirt into it. I worked on laptops and the company i worked for before, fixed the original Xbox and i've never seen the warranty void due to dust UNLESS it was so old that had MOUNDS of it and it was still not the customers fault unless it was a spill or something. IF YOU NOT Allowed to open it, then theres not alot you can due. Air cans just blow the dust around the inside.

them not releasing the pics (Sony) and it being their call on what they feel filthy is basically...
Good thing its a well built machine that shouldn't break down cause it looks like Sony has real crap service. The guy who sent it in said he'd cleaned it off and we all know the ps3 is a dust magnet. So if they open it up and see a bit of dust you couldn't clean off they can say it was 'filthy' [email protected] that.

If yours breaks down clean it off and take some pics before you send it in. Youtube your experience record everything whatever it takes to let people know what to expect from Sony. They'll straighten out if they get publicly shamed like m$ did...

would send a system in that looked like that

only a fool would try and play a system that looks like that

only a fool would spend 600bucks and then let it break from dust

only a fool would allow for his/her system to gather dust like that one in the pic

only a fool doesnt know a damp towel cleans dust

this guy was a fool and Sony is no fool

Leathersoup3541d ago

...that Sony owners are fools?

J/K!! I just thought that this guy liked using the word Fool too much. I wish I had a PS3 as well as my Xbox! I wanna play Motorstorm! :(

would get a ring of death just to get out of his room!

Expy3541d ago

that ain't the one he sent in he actually claims he cleaned his b4 he sent it in. Add the fact Sony wont release the pics they say they took and the whole thing smells pretty fishy.

If I was Sony, I wouldn't send the ps3 back at all. No, instead I'd sent a dirt devil back in the Ps3 box. Anyone who lives like that is a nest of infection and disease.
