Check out the video comparison between SH2 and SH: HD Collection.
I like the new voice acting a lot more. The voices fit the characters much better and they have more emotion to them, imo
Not too sure....I'm getting a lot of mixed feelings that is kinda hard to stomach. I'm getting this ????????????? Not saying I'm hating it, but I don't think it's very good either.
I haven't played the original games. I watched the video, then listened to it without looking at my screen. The originals have character and the first woman's voice has a unique quality. In the second video it all sounds like a bad radio play, with OTT acting that doesn't come from the inside. As gamers we don't notice great voice-acting. Nathan Drake, Commander Shepard etc. But this HD edition's voice acting sounds half-hearted.
i rather read the text, that was too awful to get into
Maria/Mary's voice got to deep in my opinion. For Maria, the sultry, deep voice works. For Mary, not so much. I guess they couldn't have different voice actors for each since Mary and Maria are... (no spoilers). Eddie's voice is good. However, the playful, childish voice was better.
Exactly. Eddie is supposed to sound playful and childish. That's what makes him such a creepy character. He talks about killing in such an immature, childish way. It's...disturbing.
You hit the nail on the head. The childish way he is acting with that face is very disturbing.
Nice spoiler there... I'm pretty sure I know what you implied and I've never played the game. LoL
Whatever you think they spoiled is probably waaaaaaaay off. SH2 has some pretty fucked up twists. Even if you know what's going to happen. :D :D
I never play the original games so I don't have anything to complain about this time around.
not sure who disagreed with you, but i agree with you. i nvr played the games b4 so i wouldnt know if the new VO is good or not.
their both bad in my opinion xD
Hmm, they both have terrible voice acting, but the remake sounds more...believable, and less comical.
Most of the voices all sound deeper and darker. Maybe it makes the game more grim in the long run from hearing people speak in darker tones.
I've never played the originals and I've only watched my cousin play them back in the day. I kind of like both the old and the new one. I hope they will give us options though... it's always good to have the option to change it. Wasn't the first Mary clip suppose to be a video James was watching? (or was it a flash back?). Because in the newer one, all they really did was remove that static (or whatever it was) and make her voice sound clearer.
They should have kept James's original voice... The other characters are mixed feelings... they didn't sound good or bad.
You prefer naive robot James eh? No sir, not me...I'll take the new James any day.
the deeper voice doesn't match james's appearance or personality at all.
I wasn't too keen on the new ones at the start of the clip, but then it came to James... No. No. No. Sorry, but I'll keep my PS2 games and play them on my fat PS3 instead. Save myself some cash in the process.
He sounded like a robot in the original...it was so...forced.
It doesn't sound natural for sure, but it's not supposed to: the guy's seriously messed up. He certainly shouldn't sound like some cheapo David Hayter impersonator.
I'm not too keen on James' the voice, the rest were ok though.
omg what has konami done
the only voice that was kinda ok was james imo. i hate the new mary
the new voices sound obviously recorded, its like the voices from a smackdown vs raw game :/...
Please Enable old voices even if I should play new game+ to enable it.
Konami: "Cost too much. You buy now. You have fun. Stop the complaining"
Original is better and I haven't played the original at all.
Hmmm...I know Silent Hill 2 doesn't have the best voice acting, but I actually think they made it WORSE. Maria is the one that bothers me the most. The point of that scene is that is hints towards Maria not quite being what she appears to be. Not only has is she miraculously alive after being attacked, but she also keeps switching voices and moods, which makes the players question whether she really is Mary or not. The new voice doesn't really portray that. It doesn't sounds quite "crazy" enough.
Very interesting. They sound more believable but is that a good thing?
I believe that was the charm of the original game to have weird voice acting. If you replay the game and meet up with Angela for the first time, the dialogue is a little painful. But I've been playing SH2 all these years and those voices have pretty much been ingrained into my mind. Even if these new voice actors sound more believable, I'm not sure if I can accept the change. And I'm going to miss Eddie's voice. >.<
I can agree on Eddie's voice, but James was too robotic for me to take seriously, and it sort of muddied my experience. New James sounds pretty great!
Glad I cancelled my pre-order after finding out there's no SH4. Good job I have the originals, personally I found almost all of the new voice work to be unbearable, Eddie and Maria's voices don't fir the characters at all.
new VA sucks balls.
i´ve never played silent hill 2 before so it doesn´t matter to me that much
As a long time fan of Silent Hill at first I found the new VA a bit off. but with all the new tech and sound systems Im thinking the new VA and music background will resonate better with those new to the Silent Hill games. I do prefer james original voice over but whats in the new HD editions isnt bad and actually seems to make the characters more real.
Yes they sound more real but most SH fans of course will disagree because they dont like it anyway.
lol never played SH2 but james old voice was pretty awful you blinded SH fans.
When you've been playing a game for a long time, you get used to the characters and their voices, even if you were to add better VA it simply wouldn't fit because you already know the characters, it's like changing voices in RE4, even if you don't like the original voices (I kinda like leon's but ashley's is annoying) you still grew attached to them, that's why i don't want new VA in SH even if it's better (it's not) besides the only reason Konami is doing this is because they don't want to pay the voice actors and coming from a big company that's just low.
original voice acting much much better then new
i puked alittle in the mouth....
