El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Review (PlanetXbox360)

To be quite honest, I’m not exactly a man of big religion. Granted, I have my own personal beliefs and all that, but I don’t get as heavy into “why are we here” sort of logistics like others out there. And there are those who have their own interpretations, and sometimes they’re fascinating to read out – like this one guy I know who thinks God created bacon to teach us overindulgence. (C’mon – bacon was made for enjoyment!) Likewise, Ignition has its own interesting story based on the Deuterocanonical Book of Enoch (spell that five times fast) with El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron, but this is no boring Sunday sermon. This is an action game with the development team being headed up by Takeyasu Sawaki, a character designer of Devil May Cry and Okami fame. And it’s one hell of a journey. (Sorry, heck. Slipped past me.)

What is up with IGN's review. I feel like the reviewer didn't "get" the game. Did he know about all the combat possibilities and switching up special moves and such. It seems that one can make any hack and slash game a button masher and get through with one or two moves, but that's not the point. The point is to try the moves out, why should a game push you to use something in a specific situation. What you can't mix it up yourself and need your hand held and be told what to do. I think the IGN reviewer made up his mind before even playing the game, but to each his own I guess.

is so far removed from all the others I've seen thus far. It stands out like a sore thumb right now. Might as well have been that contrary asshole Jim Sterling that wrote it.
