Super Mario Galaxy is getting rave reviews all around the planet. It seems Mario Galaxy is not only great or excellent but it beats perfection. Maximum PC did give Half Life 2 an 11 out of 10, and that's a pretty credible site/magazine.
What does that even mean anyways? Its better than perfection?
Halo fan: "Halo rulez, 11/10". MGS fan" MGS rules, 11/10" Mario fan (This case) " Mario galaxy rules, 11/10". This is simply unproffesional and wrong.
11 out of 10 frequently means a PERFECT game, whereas 10 might be just really really good.
And even the 11/10 doesn't mean perfect, I fail to see how that makes the reviewers dumb.
As I stated in my blog review... You control mario like you have for over 10 years now. With an analog stick. That's not really revolutionary to me.

If you look at the grading on the side of the article, one of the categories received a 9, while the rest received 10's. Somehow overall, the game is an "11" though. :D
If it wasn't on a Nintendo fanboy site, it probably wouldn't be amusing, but that's all it is.
a game might get catagories like 7,8,9,7,9.5, and get a total score of 9.5, because its just got what it needs to get a total of more than that.
I think that's as it should be, though how I feel about a score of over 10 on a 10 point scale is something else...

EDIT: Well...in my opinion Devil May Cry 3 deserves an 11 out of 10...but that's just me. haha...i'm a total DMC fanboy.
There probably isn't a game in existence that absolutely deserves a 10. Let alone the mythical "11". :P

Save Peach and win the game. THAT'S IT! The gameplay mechanics aren't that much different either. I've gotten more use out of my sixaxis than my wii-mote...and that's just the motion-sensing! I NEVER touch my wii. Of course, if I lost a bit of weight, that might not be a problem.

Seriously, did any Sony fan say 11/10 for Ratchet or Uncharted? Did any Halo fan say 11/10 for BioShock or Halo 3? This is stupidity at it's worst...
While it's true that Nintendo has it's own brand of annoying fanboy, this sort of thing in a single isolated magazine can't even touch the level of horrificly annoying Zealotry expressed by the Sony and Microsoft fanboys on a daily basis. Considering that this is one of the most hyped games in Nintendo history, and seemingly great to boot, this is no surprise at all, and definitely not on par with the B.S. that's being argued about all over this site regarding other games and systems even as I type.
I agree with you, it's absurd and ridiculous. I'm just pointing out that this is an isolated incident within the Nintendo Fanboy world, and while it is a huge spike it comparatively is nowhere near as severe as the usual b.s. we get here everyday that has nothing to do with Nintendo, and everything to do with the other two major console companies. That and this seems to be some corny, obscure little Italian magazine. It's not like it was Nintendo Power that did this.

THANK GOD, if i saw another blu-ray post i was going to burst. Mario Galaxy is the $h!+!!!! Played it at Gamestop and it was awsome. Good looking for the post. If you played it for more then 10 mintues you would see why this game got a score that high
Will they add 2 stars to games that surpass 10 on average? Will they lower very other game's score? Will the mart consider these games "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA "?
This only undermines even more the state of game reviews and scores. Seriously, lately reviewers are throwing tens to every game that comes out either on 360 or Wii if they're major franchises or overhyped. 11 out of 10 simply proved it. How did game reviews go to hell anyway? It's as if they didn't matter anymore. They shouldn't have mattered in the first place anyway....
These scores seem mostly arbitrary anyway. If people want to read a review, they should be paying more attention to what the reviewer actually has to say about the game anyway. This 1-10 system has become nothing more than a ranking system for whatever the current games in a given time period are. Which can't help but take popularity into account rather than quality. Which leads to the flood of 10's we've gotten lately, and BS "11's" like this one. Which translates such scores into a joke. That being said, this seemingly obscure little Nintendo Magazine is just catering to it's own fans. Something like this normally would never see the light of day outside of that little world.

Men, editorial reviews are just meaningless. They hold as much credibility as horse dung sold as perfume. Editorial reviewers don't even give a toss any more about how blatantly daft their reviews are and they jsut don't care. They know the vast majority of the gaming community now are sheep to reviews and will just say and do what ever they want.
They have no accountability anymore and the sad thing is they just don't care about that at all. The industry is really a mess this gen, argh! This is just sad.
Sooo this is the new rating system now? Where will this go? What, we're going to have 35/10 ratings now? No no, better yet 100/10 ratings. Yeah that'll be cool and legit, not micky mousey at all. Jeez!

There never has, and never will be a game developed which truly deserves an 11/10. And there are a very limited amount of games created which actually deserve a perfect 10/10, off the top of my head I can think of 2, both of which were last gen.

...that a space based game with strange gravity effects can give you equilibrium sickness. How much more immersive could it possibly be? That being said, people for whom it affects this way should probably play less at a time at first until they get used to it.
The old Turok games on the 64 used to nauseate me all the time, as much as I loved them.
these people are putting their reputation on the line as saying its the greatest game of all time, therefore it will be the best selling game ever!
I know it wont because the game isn't good at all, I would give it a 4 out of 10.
