Gamer Gaia Review - Call of Juarez: The Cartel

The Call of Juarez series always kept me wanting more. There are few games that even try to emulate the Wild West and this series always seemed to do it favourably. With an imaginative bunch of characters and a bustling story, the last two games lacked some overall polish. After the developer decided to bring the Wild West into a more modern setting, things instantly looked bleak. Has Call of Juarez: The Cartel then built upon these last two games to create something wondrously western? In short – no; this time around, the characters, setting and gameplay all frustrate the hell out of me. It’s clear that if there were any enduring fans of the series at all, they’re long gone - most likely getting their Wild West fix from the likes of Red Dead Redemption - and I don’t blame them. Call of Juarez: The Cartel seems like a rushed mess of a game that indicates the developer’s lack of knowledge regarding its fans and the subject matter.
