Mortal Kombat 9 or Street Fighter 4? Both amazing games but..which is better? My Verdict.
Mortal Kombat. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Best fighting game this gen, behind SSBB.
SSBB is the best fighting game this gen. I put so much time into it
SSBB sucks compared to SSBM.
You all became irrelevant for comparing Smash Brothers to real fioghters
Mortal Kombat. Game is amazing. Its MK in all its glory . .. back the the MKII MK3 days. Its perfect. SF4 would have been awesome in its own right, but they've made like 3 spinoffs in less than 2 years and its just plain retarded. SS4, SS4-Turbo, Super SS4, Super Duper SS4, Super Super Duper SS4 Turbo . . . you get the idea.
@sack_boi You became irrelevant to this site ages ago.
mortal kombat sucks eww look at the retarded animations
what are ya, twelve? Mortal Kombat performs a Stage fatality on Street Fighter any day
Mortal Kombat of course
Yeah! MK, baby! :)
yeah Mortal Kombat i support [email protected] he is right
mortal kombat is wayy better but super street fighter is actually kinda good imo
i enjoyed both, but MK takes my vote, it has a lot of content, (leaving out the story) the game is just awesome, best MK ever ( right after MK II of course)
Easily street fighter IV . Better extra modes are just that , better modes . The fighting mechanics , the gameplay , the offline and online community easily trounce MK .
Agreed. I still think MK is the Call of Duty of fighting games. It's a casual fighter. My casual friends always want to play MK over SF because they can actually stand a chance in MK9 (Just like MVC3). SF4 is too complex of a fighter for casuals to pick up and get good at. MK just uses content, boobs and blood. It's a gimmick, really... I think the characters from MK9 are sick. Sub Zero is one of the sickest dudes ever and always has been, but the MK fighting system/mechanics are clunky, stiff and broken. And the online?? Don't get me started on how busted and laggy that is haha. In general, Japanese fighting games are much more solid and clean than American fighting games (though I did love Killer Instinct - That was U.S. right?)
Agree, agree, agree. MK has a LOT of potential but not in this version. Fighters need to be tweaked more, moves need to be more refined and balanced. And the online....whoooo boy....a complete overhaul. I do like the managing of your meter part of the fighting. All in all the next MK should be solid enough to compete with SF.
"I still think MK is the Call of Duty of fighting games. It's a casual fighter. My casual friends always want to play MK over SF because they can actually stand a chance in MK9 (Just like MVC3)." Really? I mean, I can understand your point of view if all your friends are equally good/awful at MK. But a 'casual' MK player is going to have their ass whooped by someone who actually knows all the character combos, moves and how to time their attacks. I can't stand playing MK with my friends because all they know how to do is button mash, so I end up wiping the floor with them every time. It's not an easy game to master.
Street fighter IV ... or Blazblue CS2 , or King of fighters XIII and Tekken tag 2 from what i've seen so far
Tekken Tag 2 easily. Already confirmed over 40 fighters (on disc for FREE, not locked or DLC), more than anything Street Fighter has ever done.
lol is this serious? Mortal kombat is a joke fighting game.
In terms of technical skill and execution, Street Fighter gets the nod. In terms of story and overall presentation, Mortal Kombat wins hands down. In terms of fun, gamers win all around.
how did you get disagreed. that is the actual truth.
Because N4G users can't handle the truth.
Street Fighter IV by far.
Why is that the fighting genre is so limited and hard to establish a a new IP into. Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat have been around for a long and no other fighting games have come close to the success that both games have had. Sony come on your the king of exclusive3s but you still dont have a fighting game. MS go to the attic and pUll out Killer Instinct and give it to Rare with a high budget and 100% freedom to do what they want with it - look what they did with Conkers giving freedom. If developer are scared to go into the fighting genre you can always remake the classicS like: Blood Roar Fatal Fury Dead or Alive SNK
I would love to see Killer Instinct Come back. Shame it would be made by M$ though. OT: Neither is better than the other. Theyre both kings of a different style of fighter. SF is the best tourney fighter and MK is the best arcade / casual style. Now lets see a new IP try to top them on either front.
Would love to see Bloody Roar come back. But i say give that to Namco and their Tekken team. Imagine Bloody Roar fast paced style fighting with Tekken like graphics. *drooool*
MK is mostly because it went back to what most people like about it. Street Fighter IV is ok but it could be better I think and Capcom seems to be milking it way to much.
Street Fighter, don't agree? Oh well, you're wrong because Street Fighter had the highest popularity at EVO The only people who think Mortal Kombat is better than Street Fighter are casual fighting fans. Granted, Mortal Kombat is a tournament friendly game, however, it's not up to par with Street Fighter nor is the skill. Street Fighter requires strict timing/execution whereas Mortal Kombat mostly requires memorization and simple button presses to get a combo out. This isn't to say Mortal Kombat doesn't take any skill whatsoever but Street Fighter certainly takes more.
true that. Only the casual players think MK9 is better than SF, MK has more content but that is it. SF has better gameplay, characters, online system, balance, etc. On top of that without SF MK wouldn't even exist to begin with and without SFIV bringing back the 2D fighting scene from the dead MK9 wouldn't exist either.
If you play street fighter than you know its ultimately about mindgames not execution. MK brings high level mind games to people much quicker. You lose because they were a step ahead, not because you accidentally did a shoryuken instead of an ultra. Some of the dash cancel timing late juggle is just as strict as the few frame windows to link that special in the mix with SSF4. It CAN be easier to do combos, yes, but that just means you are going to get hit by more if you let them. You can't just squeak by because you have one hitconfirm combo into ultra down pat. War didn't become any less complicated when everyone got guns. They had to deal the with the fact that everyone can shoot a gun and adapt higher strategies. If you stuck with the game for more than a few weeks you'd know this.
"If you play street fighter than you know its ultimately about mindgames not execution." Sorry, you officially lose all credibility before you even began. LMFAO You need execution and mind games go hand in hand. If you were any good at SF you would know that. Stay Free.
Mortal Kombat does not bring high level mind games quicker because of the fact that everyone's moves are essentially the same and are seperated by combos and specials. Throw in the fact that there is a universal block button and that eliminates cross-ups and limits mixups to an extent. The timing needed for certain links and having the skill to be able to not only be able to read last minute moves and have the reflexes to and execution to do this, I'm sorry but Mortal Kombat in no way is better than SF in technicality. You might dislike SF and love MK, but there's no getting around that despite your bias.
that argument is fallacious at best . IF that was true , stuff like Naruto or Dbz would be the biggest mind session ever . They've got combos , and highly simplifed schemes for those , normal moves and block/evade . Simpler hardly means better , nor would overcomplicating things would either . Stuff like SF and tekken are held in higher regard among fighting games fans , within their respective 2d or 3d realms , because they brings a delicate and usually almost perfect balance of skills requirements and strategy . If you need more obvious "proofs" , just see how more delighftul and interesting are tornaments such as EVO , for street fighter , and a few other games .
For my gaming tastes SFIV...
MK is a great way to make up for several years of bleh games. But as a fighting game, Street Fighter is better. The article is definitely from a casual fighting game fan's perspective with the points brought up along with a few incorrect details (SF4 was made in 2008 but only in arcade, it didn't come to the console until 2009).
I like them both.
So do I.
I agree with tarbis.....i like both. They both have good qualities and are super fun.
I don't know what to say besides this... I think MK is easier for non-fighter gamers to play. I have seen my little cousins play SSFIV, but they are better at playing MK lol and they have more fun with it too. The only thing I'm not liking is 2.5D in both games... it looks nice but nothing can beat those fine sprites of the past... I'm glad BB and KOF are still like that haha
Street Fighter IV
I like both, but they both have their good and bad qualities. but I have been playing Street Fighter for alot longer and thats the game I and my friends play when we want to really go at it. and we play MK just for fun kind of like the scene in the 40 year old virgin. Note* I wish we could color change their outfits like in the PS2 games. mainly the street fighter anthology pack, anyone remember that.
super street fighter 4 gets my vote for best fighting game ever
People who think MK9 is better than SFIV either: 1-Never played SFIV. 2-Are casual gamers. I own both and even though I enjoyed both, SF IV not only has the lasting appeal (been playing it for years with friends) but also has the balance that gives the game a sense of fairness. MK9 has some truly broken mechanics in balance, and it takes a veteran fighter junky to point that out, not a gamer who gets excited by blood and gore ...
" but also has the balance that gives the game a sense of fairness" sorry but Sagat is ( or was) incredibly broken, im not playing SFIV anymore btu thetime i played it, Sagat was just plain broken.
Well said, I don't know if you saw the comments from the dude saying execution doesn't matter but if you play C. Viper (Judging by your picture) than you should be laughing up a storm right now XD
Funny when people Say mk fans are casual because ive been playing fighters for years and its actually the opposite. Most casual head right to SF because of the link combos system is easy as hell to atleast get damage and ive seen pros get clapped by noobs doing some dumb shit. Fierce+Fierce+Special=Mad damage You cant Mash in mk because you need to know the commands and all that execution talk BS is hilarious because KOF is way more advanced than SF. SF4 is a poor mans SF3 and is only popular because of name. MK9 IS ALL MINDGAMES and i mean every-bit of it is Straight up mindgames I like both but mk9 takes the cake hands down BTW bringing EVO views up is so pathetic, i love logical fallacies
Easy as hell to get damage? You obviously play against complete morons. I'm sorry, if you actually let someone get a J.RH + Fiece -> Special than you DESERVE to eat that damage. It's called playing defensively and knowing when and how to execute your game plan. The same applies to Mortal Kombat. You CAN'T mash in Mortal Kombat? Lmfao, I've seen my scrubby friends do nothing but mash in Mortal Kombat and feel like they accomplished something whereas in Street Fighter they feel like crap because they don't accomplish anything. Bring up EVO views is so pathetic? Yeah, bringing up the views/preference of the entire FGC community surely is pathetic. GTFO, scrub, stay free, stay salty and keep getting bodied in the superior game.
You can button mash in Mortal Kombat...but you won't end up winning any rounds against the players who actually know the combos and different character moves.
Street fighter for me primarily because I just think it's a deeper fight system. I also don't like the constant chip damage of MK which forces people to fight aggressively. MK though is a far more complete package but seeing as I really only play fighting games for mp, SF wins.
"MK forces people to fight aggressively." Explains it right there And i love how people make excuses like sf4 is balanced when they freakin made 3 new ones and change it along with each addition And in mk9, managing meter is a tedious task compared to SF's stupid super meter AND ultra
Meter management in Mortal Kombat is a tedious task?! Please, first hit gets a free bar, once you get the breaker you save it so you don't eat big damage, if you're a moron you use your X-Ray... Real meter management Whereas Street Fighter it gives certain moves different properties, enables armor and armor breaks, allows one to FADC to continue a combo or save themselves from eating damage.. Oh, and you only have 4 bars to work with. I'm honestly beginning to think you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to fighting games.
Mortal Kombat hands down street fighter cashcom is milking the hell out that game
Mortal Kombat is probably the better of the two, but I've had more fun playing Soul Caliber IV than any other fighting game this gen.
virtual fighter 5 is the best fighting game ever just the fighting system blows away sf and mk
Both of them, so shut up and stop bitc*ing
I grew up to both and have way too many favorites from both games i like them exactly the same sf ryu, feilong, elena, hugo, rolento ,yang all my favorites,sub-zero,rain,johnny cage, nightwolf, reptile, noob saibot, frost all my mk favs both games are just too much fun for me to choose only one they are both the best equal fighting games ever made.
Oo many Capcom fanboys here, yuck. Ultras made the game a joke along with Oni and Evil Ryu. Evil Ryu had a amazing theme in SFA3 then they gave him for ae Ryu and Akuma themes combined. Capcom is hands down the gayest company in gaming. I'm not homophobic,i mean it in the bad way.
lol many ? People easily favor more MK around here in most threads , as expected . It's a more accessible game , and many herewould vote MK anyway just because they are pissed at capcom for one or many other things .
i like mk accessibility and sf overall game play
I haven't played either, but the fact Mortal Kombat gets free patching and bug fixing, along with cheaper and better DLC, it wins. If Crapcom needs to patch or fix something, they will just make a super version of it and charge $40 for a patch.
This here is nothing but truth. Only full retards would think otherwise, don't go full retard.
MK9 is just overall more fun to play.
MK9 is the better fighter because it's more balanced. SF4 is almost as broken as MvC3. Crapcom just sucks at balancing and they won't even attempt to balance their games until they release a new version of it to make people pay more for updates.
In competition, Street Fighter Hands down. It simply is better at balancing and focus. For fun, MK wins because it's such a elaborate, over the top, and visually pleasing title. It's all about getting togeather with your buddies and just having fun. However it shouldn't be played professional competitively, that's an area Street fighter just has down.
Sorry buddy. But you're wrong. SSFIV is my preferred fighting game as well. But MK has already made it to grand tourneys such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watc...
When some of the greats such as Justin Wong are taking time off of SSFIV to play MK, then it's legit. But yeah.....SSFIV for me thru and thru.
I'll say that MK is the overall better package, but SSFIV is the overall better fighter. ;-)
Can't compare them. Too different.
