Legendary game designer John Carmack breaks the mold with ambitious projects like RAGE and more at QuakeCon 2011.
Without a sip of water he talked for 1 1/2 hours. He's really the king of game engines and 3d graphics Youtube link:- http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Even though he spoke for almost 1 hour and 30 mins, and I don't know anything about programming, I still watched the whole thing and fully enjoyed it. There are not many devs that really seem this passionate about their work. I have much respect for this guy, he worked on Quake 1, 2 and 3, I spent so many hours playing those. LOL for better or for worse John Carmack helped make me the man I am today.
That guys a legend - Just listening to him you get the idea hes is a true pioneer
Carmack da man!!! (In a good way)
I watched this last night. He made some telling comments about developing cross platform on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Even he found it challenging to develop on the PS3, due to memory limitations. With that said, this is testament to PS3 first party developers that make awesome games like Uncharted, God of War, GT5, MGS, Infamous etc. etc. Even with memory limitations and the challenge of the CELL, they achieve quality titles that look better than 360 exclusives (I know i'll get flamed for this... but this true). Back to topic. Carmack is a genious and i've pre-ordered Rage on Steam, PS3 and a hard copy from Amazon. Judging from the trailers and gameplay - this is going to be an awesome FPS with lots of variety.
I always thought PCs were easy to develop for.....I guess it's not. I'm pretty amaze though how he got the consoles to run at 60fps. But this whole talk about the Xbox 360 has more of "this" and more of "that" than the PS3 is a headache at this point. I have yet to see a game that push the Xbox 360 to it's limits. The 360 fanboys on this site are so delusional that they're probably going take this comment out of proportion. But it's true, at least from my perspective. We keep hearing from developers how easy the 360 is when comes to developing games, so why have yet to see a game that has the same fidelity as a game as the first Uncharted?
Yep, point made right there. I don't care what any fanboy of m$ want's to believe, Uncharted kills anything on there console. Same with God of war, and Killzone. Hell even Infamous 2 kills what the 360 has to offer visual wise.
That made me laugh, ha! That's your opinion and it's your right to have it.
Why does everything have to turn into a fight around here? He is just explaining the challenges and limitations of the respective platforms. No need to provoke either side here. The simple fact is that the 360 does some things better than the PS3, and the PS3 likewise does some things better than the 360. PC does everything better. FACT(S).
Yep PC is going to kill it 16K by 16K textures Pre-purchase time on Steam. Such a shame DVD gimped storage capacity killed the 360 version Such a shame Blu Ray gimped the read speed of the PS3 version Never mind, PC it only does everything... Was there really any doubt :)
Sure PC will be best version, duh. But what you said is kind of false, Carmack mentions that fully installing the 360 version to hard drive sorts out the problem. will be more than 20 gigs and probably taking around 30 mins to install all 3 discs but who cares, small price to pay for experiencing what looks like such a great game.
I understand that. But it true, 22GB or so. 360 = DVD 3 Disks fail!!! PS3 = 9MB/s Blu Ray read speeds fail!!! Full Install or FAIL Still for best experience including: Mods, Commands (debug), better graphics and in years to come we will have id tech 5 source code.
