For months many of you have asked for details on whether or not there will be Collector’s Edition for Skyrim. At the end of a rousing QuakeCon presentation, game director Todd Howard confirmed its existence.
This will sure be popular but as much I need skyrim I dont buy collectors editions ever.
Same, as much as I love the game I just wouldn't pay that much more just for a few extra things, I always get tempted by the figure but I just don't care for the extra dvds and artbooks.
Wait this means i could almost buy 3 copies of Dark Souls Collector's Edition. Dark Souls it is...
$150? For a Dragon Statue and an Art Book? And I thought the Prestige Edition of COD was rediculous. I like Collectors Editions but this price is pretty hefty for what you're getting.
I just want to watch the behind the scenes footage...I could care less about the statue or art book. Why can't they do a middle version like COD does? Regular, limited, collectors editions or something like that? I rarely buy collector's editions either trainsinrdr.
There are some massive fans of the Elder Scrolls who don't have the money to pay over 3x as much for a statue. I would seriously love the art book but can't afford this. :(
Everybody wants the art books, but few want a stupid collectible figure. That's cool if it's your thing, but it sucks that you have to pay so much extra for the artbook, because there's a statue you never wanted!
@truth... I just want the DVD. I don't need any of the other stuff.
Buy the regular edition, buy art book later on ebay and then watch the making of DVD all you want shortly after launch on Youtube. Problem solved and money saved.
@iron... Never...fucking...thought of that haha good call.
I'm surprised that the collectors edition doesn't include a silly hat for Team Fortress 2.
I don't have that kind of money. Oh well.
Yeah, at $150 it's a hard sell for those of us who aren't dying for the statue. A $100 edition with just the art book and making-of DVD would be nice.
You'd pay 100 bucks for an art book and making of DVD? Wow, lol.
@ProjectSiK: Well it is a 200 page art book, so an extra $40 for that and the DVD doesn't sound unreasonable. Now an extra $90 for that stuff plus the statue . . . that's a bit much for me.
This content is really worth only the $99 price tag here. I mean considering collectors editions like halo reach that came with not only a pretty big statue, but also a ton of stuff worth of content in books and in-game stuff, this really seems over priced to me.
0-0 my life has been made complete *loud screams*
Wtf loud screams?
hell yeah ive been waiting for them to announce this since they announced Skyrim, played since ES arena, all these people are complaining about the price but a true fan of anything never cares about the price......unless in the case of Dead Space 2 where they claimed full replica and gave a burger king kids meal toy instead
If thats all it contains its overpriced compared to reach,kz3,infamous 2 and swtor ce's.
Seriously. For that price, I would expect them to throw in a soundtrack, a poster (or a cloth like substance with the skyrim logo on it, like a flag or perhaps something that looks/feels like an actual scroll), some special DLC, a textured steel book case, and maybe some other random small trinket, like a ring or a necklace or something. $150 is way too much for a statue, an artbook and a making of dvd (the last 2 being available online for free).
I would expect a large shield to come with it at that price...you know to fight people
"For that price, I would expect them to throw in a soundtrack, a poster (or a cloth like substance with the skyrim logo on it, like a flag or perhaps something that looks/feels like an actual scroll), some special DLC, a textured steel book case, and maybe some other random small trinket, like a ring or a necklace or something." "or a cloth like substance with the skyrim logo on it" "cloth like substance" THIS
I would like to get this... but with most Bethseda games, I find [more] value in getting the GOTY edition. Problem is, I'll have to wait a long time for its release.
But its worth it, not like if there is any multiplayer. And by that time youll know if the game is a bust like Dragon Age 2. Personally i waited for Uncharted 2 GOTY 29.99, totally worth it.
additionally (with Bethesda games) it's usually a better deal on the DLC, assuming they have been released prior. which is highly likely.
Sometimes it's worth buying these collectors editions just to keep hold of for a while. You tend to get more than your money back for them at the very least. I bought the Fallout 3 collectors edition with the lunchbox and bobblehead and sold them for over £80 just a few months after I bought them, without the game. I only paid £49 for it.
It's kind of like investment in the long run, the amount of money people would pay for a CE if they are Sold out at retailers is unbelivable, I saw a person on ebay selling the codex book from the Assassins Creed Codex edition for £200 a few months after it had come out and it was only the book. The orginal price of everything was £69.99. The longer you have it the more people will pay in the future...and in the world we live in today there are idiots with a lot of money who would pay for a CE if you are selling it at a ridiculous price.
Exactly, yeah. Some people will pay through the nose for collectors items, and you can use that to your advantage. I'm not sure whether I would buy this at the price, but you would probably be able to pick it up a bit cheaper at various places, two or three weeks after it launches, if you keep your eyes peeled. It's worth bearing in mind anyway, for any game really. People will pay top dollar for anything that's hard to get hold off, and the longer you leave selling it then the harder it will be for someone to get hold off.
OMG that is AMAZING :D but... A Making of DVD....really something which should already be on the disc as an unlockable like ND do with Uncharted and they want us to pay for it. I'd rather have a metal Skyrim logo EDIT: I don't see why people are disagreeing like MrSpace has said below it's a limited edition thing, we shouldn't be paying for something which other people can view or listen to for free.
Making of DVDs, Golden Guns and Soundtracks should be things that come with limited editions because your right you can listen/watch them on Youtube after the game comes out. A collectors edition is something which your supposed to have which over people don't have. No point having a making of dvd when other people can watch it for FREE.
I'm so sick of developers doing this with their collector's edition. $69.99 - Hell yeah, I'm down with that price for a CE $79.99 - Okay, the contents definitely warrant the extra 20 dollars $89.99 - Oh yeah, devs skip straight to 100 $99.99 - I REALLY like this series and I REALLY like the contents of this package so I'm down with this ---- $150.00 - Screw you. Seriously, not one collector's edition is worth 150, these are the editions that drop SIGNIFICANTLY within a month. The thing that sucks is I would really like to own this but I don't want to wait for it to drop to a reasonable price before I play Skyrim:\
"The thing that sucks is I would really like to own this but I don't want to wait for it to drop to a reasonable price before I play Skyrim:\" Plus they might not have any left to make them go down in price. EDIT: Well here in the UK once there gone there gone....the only one I;ve seen to stick around was the Killzone 3 Helghast edition because HMV overstocked them
Yeah, right.. The only collector's edition I've seen that wasn't available after launch was Crysis 2.
In my area (Central, VA), I tend to see quite a bit of LEs and CEs in stock after the initial release. I REALLY wanted the Killzone 3 CE, but didn't want to pay full price of it. After the reviews that said it was kind of short, I decided to wait to get it. I ended up buying the regular game, and then a little more than a month later, the CE was marked down to $49.99, so I scooped that up and got rid of just the regular one. I still see Legendary Editions of Halo: Reach. One store even had it marked for $59.99. I also still see the CE of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I personally LOVE to get CEs for games I really want and don't mind paying the full retail price at launch for it. I get a little annoyed that they drop somewhat quickly, but I really can't wait for the price drop to be able to play a game I really want.
My local Game are/were not long ago selling loads of WoW: Cataclysm Collectors Edition for £30, then £15 :P
Well apart from maybe The Witcher 2's CE, That one was just crazy.
The art book looks nice, but otherwise the hefty price tag doesn't seem justified. They need to start including better extras than those lame statues every collector's edition seems to have.
Looks nice but i am gonna get the Uncharted 3 Collectors edition instead for cheaper. I just don`t personally think this is worth $150. Maybe $99 but the price is just to high for me. I will still be getting the regular edition tho.
I do like Collectors Editions, but I really don't think I'd want a huge statue for a game. My favorite was GTA 4. It came with a bag, safety deposit box (which I do actually use), a hardback art book and the OST. Not bad for an extra £30.00.
Agreed. My Infamous 2 statue went straight into the garbage. I'm glad to have that sweet backpack though.
Why didn't you sell the statue on eBay? Could've made $20-$30.
Again they show it off with a 360 version... If your a developer which says they are going to support both consoles equally AND they said they just used the 360 to demo it you would use this moment to show off the PS3 version CE. I know it's not the biggest thing ever but still it would of given a little reasurance to people who only have a PS3 that they do care about that console.
Probably means the PS3 version isnt as good as the 360 one. Because if it was they would have no problem showing it off. I really want this game on my PS3 because my PC is crap. But if they pull a black ops with the PS3 version i will not get it.
I just pre-ordered Star Wars Knights of the old republic collectors edition which is a rip off price of £130 :-( now Skyrim is $150??? Sorry but no no no aint happening.
Pass. I have 10 other games I'm getting before the end of the year.
Can't say that I care... I understand that some people like collecting things.... but for me all I care about is playing the game.... if there was a cheap version that came without a box I'd be getting that instead! Oh and while I think about it.... why are the download versions of games on PSN more expensive than the proper versions? Mass Effect 2 is WAAAY over-priced as a download on PSN! Surely it should be cheaper... No disk, no box, no transportation costs, no wages to employees at a shop, no over-heads..... I can only assume it is so they set a precedent that game prices are going up.... and want to get that idea into peoples heads that digital downloads will not be cheaper as they should be!
I will buy three.
$150...why do they always have to use this as the "standard" price for high-end collector's editions? I mean, game's $60, artbook's about 20-30 (I've owned several non-game related art books and they go for about this much), behind the scenes dvd isn't anything, so that makes it about $80. That statue, at that size, is not worth the extra $70, unless the quality on it is ridiculous, and somehow I doubt that. I mean, it's really, really tempting...maybe I'll pick it up at my local Gamestop, where they always get CE editions but no one buys them.
Day one buy! That 12" Alduin must be MIIIIIIIINE!
Statues are one of my weaknesses. My wallet is crying right now but damn that is sweet.
...but 150? No thanks.
I like soundtracks. You can have the trinkets & artbooks. GusBricker, I'm with you, $150? NOT! I wouldn't do it for $70 since I could care less about what's included here. What I'm going to do is buy the standard & get the Game of the Year edition down the road.
This game doesn't intresr me that much. I will get it by the Steam sale this December
Hmmm. I might be picking this up...maybe.
il be getting 2! one for unboxing and such and one the i will keep the plastic on. and the steam version for playing the game itself. i guess il start to fill up my man cave early this time (and il pay 230 USD for mine aswell, i don't know what you guys are talking about. i mean is 150 really that much??)
Personally, I think CEs are a waste of money and resources. They create some extra stuff like plastic figurines, cloth maps, metal coins, art books and making of dvds, but how long do people actually hold on to that crap? Yeah it looks cool to show off to your friends, but in 10 years are you going to have boxes and boxes of garbage in your attack from your collector's edition phase? Are you even going to HAVE the game in 10-15 years? I was a pack rat for years and years. I used to keep every box from every PC game I ever bought back in the 90s. I had stacks and stacks because I thought the artwork was cool. Then I realized it was completely stupid to be saving JUNK! I just recently tossed out a box of 60 PC games from the mid 90s to early 2000s that I'll never play again. I did save a handful of titles, though, but most would never be installed again. Point is, they charge you more for mass produced crap that you won't hold onto the rest of your life. It won't be worth anything because you've opened the CE to show your friends!
seriously whats so amazing about oblivion? ive seen like 3 minutes of gameplay and it looks nice but seriously why the hype?
if youve seen 3 minutes of gameplay youre missing out on the other 500+ hours of gameplay, quests, guilds, weapons, dungeons, alchemy, spells, attributes and things of that such. you can easily spend hundreds of hours exploring and traversing different areas without ever really doing anything. so yah if you played the game you would have a better understanding as the game is packed with more stuff to do than you could possibly ever imagine from a 3 minute clip.
ill try it ouy :)
ouch, price is a little steep. i dont buy collectors editions but i probably would have picked it up if it was 99. oh well, the game is looking awesome regardless. im ready to waste my life away come november.
lmao i know rite... seems like all the bethesda, 2k games you waste ur life away... ill put 90+ hours into fallout 3, NV and oblivion... not to mention when i was younger MORROWIND... man, its crazy but its such a beautiful thing : )
I have to think about it. I like the art book and the statue pity there is no sound track. I wonder is 150 euro is worth it for a 100-300 hour game.
ur a huge geek if you buy this lmao... deff not worth 150 in my eyes... a statue, a dvd and a book... seriously, hell no... The game alone will be worth 150 tho
Say what? The game alone is worth $150, but the game and all the collectors edition stuff isn't worth $150? How in the hell does that work?
haha, i was more so tryin to say the game is gonna be awesome... but that stuff isnt worth it for 150, i guess it didnt make sense. my bad.
lol I know, I just felt like giving you shit :P
I want it but not bad enough to pay $150 for it.
Cool stuff although its a lil on the expensive side. But damn that art book is really tempting lol
Of all the games coming this year I am more excited for this game than any. But I am passing on the collectors for it even though that art book would be nice.
