Nintendo's Financial Woes

Nintendo in the last week or so announced it was cutting the price of the 3DS to $169.99, the President of Nintendo Satoru Iwata is taking a 50% pay cut, and their quarterly earnings for the 2nd half of 2011 showed the company lost $300 million. 20 billion in the bank, no corporate debt, yeah I feel really sorry for them.

Exactly. Even if the WiiU completely flopped, they would be ok. In fact, I would buy Nintendo stock if the WiiU flopped, because the price is guaranteed to go back up.

Release a Mario game every month? I'm kidding. I think Nintendo's biggest problem these days is the naming of their consoles, mainly 3DS and WiiU. Most people who are casual gamers and/or parents who don't know anything about gaming most likely think that these are add-ons or aesthetic rebranding. "My child already has a DS or a Wii, why do they need another one?". Nintendo needs to show and advertise that they are entirely new and next line consoles which I really haven't seen in television marketing ads.

I mean is it really an issue? All that Wii and DS money can keep them going strong easy lol.

I think as long as they come out swinging with the Wii U they will be fine.

Yeah, the current 'Woes' center more around the fact that Nintendo couldn't sustain the record pace of financial improvement each quarter for their shareholders than anything else. They'll be fine. Millions of people love their products. Nintendo just needs to present them in the proper manner, make the price right, and keep them coming.
