IGN - How Sony Keeps Pumping Out PS3 Exclusives

IGN - PlayStation 3 has, by far, the most first-party support of any of its contemporaries. With Sony Computer Entertainment's recent acquisition of Sucker Punch Productions, the developer behind Sly Cooper and Infamous, the company now boasts 15 studios creating content that's only destined for its own systems.

The story is too old to be commented.
MrDead2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

Time to put petty wars to bed and just buy one, if your a true gamer you cant ignore Sonys exclusives and if you do because of some moronic loyalty to a system then you lose out.

Also you do get a Blu-ray player.

ElementX2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

Couldn't the same be said about Sony fanboys who refuse to buy a 360? True gamers would see each system as having it's own strengths. XBLA has some amazing games coming out, I just bought Bastion and From Dust. Why wait for PSN releases? I own both consoles, prefer to buy my games on PS3, however I really don't buy that many PS3 exclusives. I'm not into GT5, Ratchet and Clank, I tried Yakuza but just couldn't get into it, Killzone 3 is alright, but I'm not a fan of Resistance 2 (hopefully 3 will be better). I enjoy inFamous and Uncharted, so I guess Sony exclusives are a mixed bag for me.

*EDIT* Nice, phantom disagrees, btw I didn't disagree with MrDead's comment. I just wish people would agree or disagree and leave a comment.

consolez_FTW2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

Oh, ok I could see why PS exclusives would be a mixed bag for some. Guess it depends what games you prefer. PLus, it's better to own both consoles than just one.

InTheLab2210d ago

"I just wish people would agree or disagree and leave a comment. "

Should be a requirement to agree or disagree. Along with the ridiculous bubble system that punishes newcomers and trolls alike, this site is not a good place for discussion.

mindedone2210d ago

Yes, the same thing CAN be said, but that's irrelevant to the discussion.

MrDead2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

@ElementX

Yes loyalty to a system is stupid, I dont own a 360 mainly because I own a PC as well as a PS3 and the 360 dosent have the range of exclusives that appeal to me like the PS3's and PC's. My nephew always brings his 360 when he visits, we do a swap and I play Halo to death, I own a original Xbox because of halo 1 & 2 and also because of Riddick.

I would always consider getting an Xbox it just this gen I havent had the need to. As for the wii I just dont have any interest at all in getting one.

Edit: Also I dont like the word fanboy lets call them by their real names, children

darthv722210d ago

So would you agree that those who choose to play others are equally as much a gamer as those who choose to play only 1?

The whole loyalty thing is the basis for the fanboy wars to begin with. Each to their own. I can respect a person if they play one system so long as they can respect my choice to play 10 systems (past and present).

Neither one of us are any more of a gamer than the next. The perception of 'gamer' or 'core' has certainly changed over time. Not entirely for the better I might add.

For these things are by choice, no sense in degrading someone if they dont play at the same level as the next guy. Bottom line is....we all like to game no matter the platform.

NewMonday2210d ago

@ElementX
having a mixed bag is actually a good thing, something for everyone.

i'm not into GT5 or LBP, but i love games like Heavy Rain, inFAMOUS, Uncharted...

WhiteLightning2210d ago

@InTheLab

Couldn't agree more, bubbles for you

I went from 3 bubbles to 4 then to 5...trolls wanted to start arguments on my comments, me being the one not to take crap argues with them and I go back to 3 bubbles and I did the same not learning from my mistake and I'm down to 2.....really crap system to be honest

Apparently to the mods you can't defend yourself you have to "rely" on the system. I've tried bubbling down people who deserve it and nothing....to be honest it's usualy the people who have like 5-7 bubbles.

<sigh> I miss my bubbles, I like commenting

M-A-R-S-H-A-L-L2210d ago

Maybe some people don't ant both consoles. Did you ever think about that Element? Or is this natural to throw out comments like that?

2210d ago
WhiteLightning2210d ago

@darkride66 I'm the same, I'm more critical towards Microsoft because of what they've turned into, I'm not going to be blind and take all this Kinect crap. Sony has treted me as a core gamer with exclusives, support and more games this year and for that I think they deserve to be cut a little slack. If it was the othet way round I would be the same with Sony

stephmhishot2210d ago

I'll say this, the reason why I chose a PS3 over a 360 in 2006 was because I had trust in the Sony brand thanks to the two previous generations. Only one of my friends had the original XBox and outside of Halo, the thing was barely touched by him. Then MS dropped it like a bad habit and moved on while Sony continued to support PS2.

I was shell shocked by the PS3's initial price tag for sure, but I knew that it would be worth it in the long run. I opted against getting a 360 in 2005 and actually bought my first PSP and I have gotten many enjoyable experiences out of it.

I really just had no desire to pay 50 bucks for Live. I'm not a big online player, but I didn't want to get screwed out of the other aspects of the service. Granted, things like Netflix and what not were not offered on Live at that point, but considering my meager online play, I can only imagine how pissed I'd be if I was basically paying 60 bucks a year right now for the right to watch my Netflix account.

While Sony may not offer Halo and Gears of War, it certainly offers much more variety. Sony is just more willing to take chances. Sometimes it works (Heavy Rain) sometimes it doesn't (Lair) sometimes its a great experience but since it isn't a big name it doesn't sell (Folklore), but they're willing to stick their neck out there.

MS plays it safe, they have their Holy Trinity of Halo, Gears and Forza, and that's fine. Look at the music industry. Drake, Wayne, Gaga, they know what works and they stick with it. Nothing wrong with that. I'd just rather have more variety gamewise.

frelyler2210d ago

I tried a 360 and got burned bc of faulty disc drive. This was bf m$ did the free repairs and I lost 400 $ bc of it. M$ did do free repairs, but only after I traded my broken 360 at gamestop while getting a lecture about how much better it was than the ps3. Fyi I still own the same ps3 4 years later and have never had a problem. I am brand loyal now bc I know sony will put out a qualtiy product, m$ on the other hand had really cheap components and tried to pass their problem onto consumers. That was a dick mo e and bc of that I will not buy m$ products. I don't care if I miss out on a few games bc I still feel anger about the whole situation. That's being a smart consumer and that is why a lot of people don't like m$.

LadyGaga2210d ago

@ Darkride

You're lucky you even have one. Your trash site/posts contribute to the main problem of this otherwise excellent site.

ufo8mycat2210d ago

Difference is theres hardly any reason to get a 360.

People who don't ahve a 360 aren't missing much at all, though people who don't have a PS3 are missing out on a hell of a lot more

starchild2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

It's interesting, the PS3 definitely has more exclusives than the 360, and that is one thing that I think Sony does far better than Microsoft.

On the other hand, from a personal perspective it somehow doesn't amount to much in the real world for me.

Most of the games I like are multiplatform games like Red Dead Redemption, Oblivion, Castlevania, Dead Space, Assassin's Creed, etc.

And when it comes to the exclusives I actually like enough to buy, it just turns out that there are more or less the same amount on the 360 and PS3.

I really love some PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2 and God of War 3, and that is enough for me to own the console, but a lot of PS3 exclusives just don't appeal that much to me.

Objectively I think it is great that Sony offers so many exclusives, but subjectively the reality is that many of those exclusives simply don't grab me.

On the PS3 I enjoy franchises like Uncharted, GOW, Killzone, and inFamous; while on the 360 I enjoy franchises like Gears of War, Halo, Fable, and Alan Wake. Everything else I really care about is multiplatform, and I tend to get those games on the PC.

My point is, it really comes down to personal opinion and taste. Some people prefer the PC, some the 360, some the PS3, some the Wii, and some will prefer to own multiple systems. None of those preferences is wrong.

Achemki2210d ago

@NewMonday
That's the beauty of it and why it works.

For me, I skipped GranTurismo5 and ModNation Racers but snagged up Motorstorm Apocalypse & WipEout HD. 4 exclusive racers, all VASTLY different, and I bought the two that I had an itch for at the time. No obligation to buy them all, don't have to justify my purchase(s) with planetxbox360.com style "top 5 reasons" lists or pre-order/beta stats, lol. Just in and out. Next.

StarWolf2210d ago

im not into ANY current ps3 games anymore, theyve pretty much ruined them all. R:FOM amazin, Socom confronatition after the patches was decent, KZ2 pretty cool...... now all three games are COD clones with different character skins. MAG was boring, LBP boring, R&C too easy but enjoyable on ps2 days.

If you are into shooters, no point in PS3 exclusives since Gears and Halo are the best in shooters. I love my PS3 for 3rd party games and trophies. Hopefully Starhawk doesnt suck but who knows.

P_Bomb2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

There's an irony in how you can find minutae in all these current exclusives to mull over, yet you still tow the company line with Halo & Gears being "teh best" despite their own flaws.

Waiting for a new Halo game every 2 years with low 80 averages like Halo Wars and ODST, or a remake of a game I played 10 years ago isn't as fun to me as playing arguably better games in the meantime. Definitely not as pointless as nostalgia.

Bolts2210d ago

Nobody need both systems. Between my PS3 and my gaming PC there simply isn't enough time in the day to play all the games I have...and I spend a lot of time playing games.

Plus owning two consoles is just pointlessly redundant like owning a Droid and an iPhone. The experience between the two isn't that far apart and I'm pretty sure that you can live just fine without playing both Gears of War and Uncharted.

Run_bare2210d ago

i actually bought xbox 360 twice (2nd one is second hand) and they both rrod and don't feel like another one.

Tru_Blu2210d ago

Ya I don't get all the disagrees. I only own a PC and PS3 mainly because I'm on a budget. I don't freak out and go buy every PS3 exclusive either. Some games appeal to me some don't. GT5 for instance.. I'm not a big fan of racing games and didn't buy that so guess I'm some kind of troll also.

Bleach2210d ago

No because the exclusives that are put out on the 360 are created by talentless studios are not really worth any note. The ones that did have gone multiplatform and we come full circle to the 360s main problem. It doesn't have any games.

Kurt Russell2209d ago

I'm getting on Uncharted 3 and Gears 3 this year... 3rd personing out of my mind! :D

nycredude2209d ago

Elementx

So you think all sony exclusives aren't that interesting so it is a better idea to drop a couple hundred dollars on a system so you don't have to wait a couple of months to play a downloadable game?

How is anyone suppose to take you seriously?

WrAiTh Sp3cTr32209d ago

I just can't get into most of those games from Sony. There are a few that I enjoy and I wish I could get into more of them. I do need to pick up a PS3 again though, because that's the only way I'll be able to play Folklore.

SuicideShaun2209d ago

Thank you for being a non-ignorant console owner. Dead says to "just buy one" How about no? I'll buy the games I want to, whether it's pc, ps3 or on xbox. I'll buy r3 because I love resistance, but I'm not going to buy uncharted because I don't like it. I'll get forza on xbox because I like it more than GT. I'll play what I please and sorry to say it guys, but not everyone thinks all of the ps3 games are the best.

bennyace2209d ago (Edited 2209d ago )

@frelyler

Just a question here!

If you have problems with your PS3 (I know poeple who did!)... does that mean that you will stop gaming?

gamingdroid2209d ago (Edited 2209d ago )

True gamers:

- play what they like and do NOT bash others for liking something they don't!
- don't close themselves up to the belief that one system is superior to another. It just simply means you now have limited yourself to enjoy only some of the great games out there irregardless of the system.

That would mean a very small minority are actual gamers....

@SuicideShaun:

Play what you like! Well said!!!

killcycle2209d ago

I brought an Xbox Elite in 2008 and really didn't enjoy any of the exclusives except Ace Combat 6 and only played it once or twice a month which didn't encourage me to pay for gold either.

We needed another "Sony has 15 game studios" article today? What is that, number 15 now? I swear, the un-moderated "alt source" option is used almost exclusively for posting bias perspectives and trolling.

@ElementX
No. It is not the same situation. Microsoft does not have 15 game studios. And temp-exclusive XBLA games? Pfffft. And no, you do not need every system to be a "true gamer"

"Nice, phantom disagrees"
Your comment is about 8 minutes old at the time that you posted this edit. How about giving it a few minutes before pulling out the "ZOMG Phantom disagries!!" card?

ElementX2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

He also said " moronic loyalty to a system" I think that speaks out about more PS3 fanboys. Most of my friends own both systems. I just perfer to have options. When PSN was down, I could game online with my friends on 360.

SilentNegotiator2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

"I think that speaks out about more PS3 fanboys"
-
Said like a truly moderate saint. PS3 fanboys are the worst, we know, certain types of posters have told the n4g commenting community plenty of times.

"When PSN was down, I could game online with my friends on 360"
-
That's nice. But not everyone is going to run out and get a new system because they can't play online for a few weeks.
*edit* Well then, not everyone is going to OWN multiple systems "just in case"

ElementX2210d ago (Edited 2210d ago )

I've owned a 360 at launch, sold it for rent money after a couple years, then bought a slim version when that was released. I didn't buy it becasue of the PSN outage.

BTW I'm not stealth trolling. I'm IamNate on PSN and FeralAssassin on 360. Feel free to add me.
