Smartphones Aren't Hurting 3DS

Last week wasn't kind to Nintendo, as the publisher posted rather dismal financial results for its second quarter. Many news outlets linked the company's struggles with Apple and other smart phone manufacturers, claiming mobile gaming was eating into traditional portable gaming's marketshare. Earlier this week, in a Q&A with investors, Nintendo global president Satoru Iwata denied that smart phones were having an impact on the performance of the 3DS.

The story is too old to be commented.

How can Smartphones eat into traditional portable gaming's marketshare when mobile was already booming market to begin with.Beside, any hand-held device that is personal to him or her it's going to out weight anything(of the same size) that used for pure fun and entertainment like the 3DS.

Personal devices will always win.....

I think it is.

Consider this, for 40 bucks I can buy one 3DS game. But for 40 bucks I can buy 40 99cent iPhone games. Which one are you going to have more fun with? For me it would be the later.

Sure, the 3DS is getting cheaper, but the games aren't. And that might not be a downfall now for Nintendo's first-party titles. But you're going to have a hell of a time convincing people to pony up $40 for a third-party title that probably isn't going to be all that great.

I agree, but I think that the real issue here is that the mobile revolution is growing faster and faster and the gaming industry see that; and want opportunity to make some serious money.

Smart phone is a muti-purpose device. You can makes calls, Play games, surf the net,log memos, check your emails, more just to list a few. While handheld gaming devices just don't even compare when it comes to how much personal things one can do on the fly. There just no comparison....

the only thing hurting the 3ds was price and games...those are facts and after the holiday it will be back where it needs to be......and they are working to get online just right.
