Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Pre-Orders 'Significantly' Ahead of Black Ops

Call of Duty has been at the top of the shooter world and arguably the video game world, setting entertainment sales records for two consecutive years. If pre-orders are any indication, Activision had a legitimate chance at posting record sales for a third year with Modern Warfare 3. Activision boss Bobby Kotick said as part of today's earnings announcement that the game has "significantly exceeded" pre-orders compared to Black Ops at this time last year.

Wow, craziness. I honestly thought CoD peaked with the sales last year for Black Ops. If Activision pulls off yet another new sales record that's impressive.

Gears of War 3 and MW3 are the two big games for me this year excluding my backlog of Uncharted, KZ3, God of War 3, Dead Space 2.... I don't know when I will get to them. Still playing StarCraft too!

PhoenixDevil2638d ago

I kno what you mean, I try to do the more expensive manner of buying the games day one so I can avoid a big backlog but its tough (and did I mention expensive) got Dark Souls out very soon n then Uncharted 3 and Skyrim . . . I don't know how I'm going to manage it and I have recently been stuck into Starcraft 2 such an amazing game

you think you have no time...i, on top of all that, am expecting a baby! xD now THAT will take almost all of my time.for about 20 years, then i can play freely again xD

Good for Activision. Money is the name of the game - for ANY company. They won't be getting my money, though.

I have no doubt that the CoD gravy train will be coming to an end soon. If the series will not adapt and evolve, it WILL be taking the same path as Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk.

Raven_Nomad2638d ago

People always try to say crap like this, but bottom line is neither Tony Hawk nor Guitar Hero sold the way Call Of Duty does. Guitar Hero, which is actually getting rebooted died out because they actually tried too hard to innovate. It's called Guitar Hero, not Keyboard, drum, piano Hero.

As for Tony Hawk, I cant say what killed that, probably the fact that it was just a stupid skate board game...

Call Of Duty is in no danger of slowing down, each one outperforms the last. Deal with it.

Ser2638d ago (Edited 2638d ago )

I wouldn't say that Guitar Hero died because of over-"innovation." On the contrary, do you remember Guitar Hero: Aerosmith? Guitar Hero: Metallica? Guitar Hero: Van Halen? They were shamelessly shoveling the stuff out every few months.

Again, Tony Hawk died because Activision saturated gamers with the franchise. This is what Activision does. Push it, push it, and push it until it dies.

I call shenanigans on your "Call Of Duty is in no danger of slowing down, each one outperforms the last" comment. That's just ludicrous. Are you honestly telling me that Black Ops was better than CoD4? Really? That's laughable, guy. Truly laughable. If you honestly believe that, you're probably not a CoD fan, but an Activision fan.

*shrug* Enjoy paying for the latest repaint, I sure as diddly won't. (I don't buy any of EA's annual titles either, so you might as well toss that counter argument out of the window. I know you like to use it often.)

CoD is on top right now, and you've got nowhere to go but down when you're on top.
