Ars Guide: How to ruin your PC port in four easy steps

Ars Technica: PC gaming is alive and well, but it seems as if companies almost want their PC ports to fail on the most powerful gaming platform. We've compiled a list of a bunch of ways that companies can make sure their PC games annoy gamers, and if you bundle up all these "features" you may also see a loss of sales and increased piracy! So, how do you make sure your PC game pales next to its console sibling? Let's find out. (PC)

Never port to the PC !!
Funny but true article for once.

But one important thing though....if it's a PC Port then it's already ruined.

Games should be BUILT for the PC first then ported down that way everybody wins.

Always BUILD for the PC!!!!

Well I wouldn't say that, there are many good PC ports, probably more bad than good but still. Darksiders, Assassin's Creed (minus the DRM, it plays and looks great on PC), RE5, and Street Fighter IV are just a few.

Darksiders was NOT a good port, barely any grpahics options and tweaking the game was minimal.

Is that what constitutes a good port though? As long as a game has minimal bugs, no performance issues, and is flexible when it comes to controls I'd consider it a good port.

Extra graphical options is icing on the cake. I expect that from PC conversions or exclusives but not a port.

Ok BC2 was a PC build. No way that was a port. It completely kills the console versions in every way imaginable.

actually no console game even comes close to BC2 PC!!

It's really disgusting that Blizzard is putting all these restrictions on Diablo III, I think it's really not fair actually and the things they decided to exclude are what made the DII so fun. I'm willing to bet Activision had a part in those decisions though.

I am going to repost my comment on another article from 5 min ago as this kind of NONSENSE keeps appearing-

there is no such thing as a port from console to pc, in fact, it is always the other way around!

Games are not made on xbox360s, ps3s, wii, ds's,

Games are made on pc's and then chopped, shrunk, and retrofitted for console specs (usually ported down to some sub-hd resolution, and pop-in, choppy framerates and jaggies are all that is left)

Even killzone 3 was made on a pc then PORTED to the ps3, and you can bet your ass it would have looked, ran and controlled better had it also been released on pc.

And that is the reason, when you look at any AAA multiplatform pc and 360, pc and ps3, or pc, ps3, 360 title, the pc version completely and wholeheartedly decimates the console version

look at bulletsotrm, half life 2 episode 2, far cry 2, crysis 2, fear 3, dungeon seige 3, homefront, bfbc2, metro2033, ANYTHING!!

The PC version will be infinately better, why??? It was made on pc!
* not to mention the pc can have about 20x more power than the ps3/360

So again, for the slow people who continue to spout nonsense, THERE IS NEVER A PORT FROM CONSOLE TO PC, GAMES ARE ALWAYS MADE ON PC, THE PORTED DOWN TO CONSOLE!

i think when they say "ported to PC" they mean the game was made intentionally weaker then it could have been if made with the PC first in mind

I'm not a pc gamer (mine's decent) but it's been getting better. since the ps3 and 360 released devs shoved away the pc for a while and right now it seems they're returning. i hope for the best for you pc gamer's :)
