Long Live Red Faction

THQ announced last week that they were ending the Red Faction franchise. Overall the series has done pretty well in sales and in reviews. But Red Faction Armageddon didn't live up to the success that Red Faction: Guerrilla generated, but with a few tweaks here and there THQ could have made Red Faction: Armageddon a must buy. (PC, PS3, Red Faction, Red Faction 2, Red Faction: Armageddon, Red Faction: Guerrilla, THQ, Volition, Inc., Xbox 360)

Don't worry. We'll get a reboot in a few years.

When I saw Armageddon I felt like they killed the series. I was right! No multiplayer for the game just made me feel sad.

First person Red Faction with competitive multiplayer would have been the best thing ever!

I do believe it will come back though at some point. I just hope they see their errors.

A Perfect examples of Call of Duty is killing originality in the video game industry.

If you can not figure out how COD is linked to this then you should go back and play your online COD match.

Call of Duty isn't DOING anything, but popularizing video games. So please, speak for yourself.

It's the companies' fault for not speaking loud enough with innovation.

In economic downturn, companies are SUPPOSED to innovate.

"Call of Duty isn't DOING anything, but popularizing video games"

Really is that the reason why 70% of the games that are being released this gen are FP military shooters.

Is that the reason why innovative and different games like Heavy Rain dont sell or get the recognition like your beloved COD.

Is that the reason why OVER priced DLC has become the norm in the video game industry.

Is that the reason why we get a COD every year.

Is that the reason why games have become more easier and noob friendly.

The only thing COD has brought to this gen is that if you market something correctly the sheep will follow.

Hey, I like military shooters! What's your beef with military shooters? You have no respect for the military that do what they do in Iraq and all around the world? Quiet you.

If we didn't have enough military shooters out on the market, we wouldn't know what they're feeling, what effects it has on them, and whatnot. I feel that military shooters are good for the industry, because we need reality here and now. We can't always be in the fantasy world all the time.

But innovation was in COD4, innovation is supposed to be the theme in the recession, but companies are trying to make a buck. The "me too" mentality. That's where you're trying to get at, not innovation.

And as for Heavy Rain, the game sold quite well. The problem with it, is that there were a lot of glitches. Trust me, I played it, and I liked it.

COD didn't kill Red Faction, THQ did. Guerrilla was good but it felt more like a spin-off, and Armageddon was horrible. This is the next series in drastic need of a reboot. In 2 games they've gone so far off what made the first two so fun. They relied too much on destruction and gimmicks rather than solid gameplay and characters. People didn't fall for it and thats why the game failed.

I did not say that COD killed Red Faction but it does play a role in games like it not selling so well.

COD is the highest selling game this gen and has very large following on the PS3 and 360 - so large that it dwarfs exclusives for both consoles. The same people that buy COD are the same people that want more COD even if it comes in the form of over priced DLC.

If the name of Red Faction was Call of Duty with the exact game play I can guarantee you that it would have sold millions.

Red Faction isn't a bad game at all.

Right decision! Use $$$ to create a new & better IP!

THQ mentioned they want to focus on game that are more mainstream
DeadlyFire  +   1371d ago
Like Homefront? Most likely that is their idea. Still there will be Red Faction fans out there. They will eventually come back to it or sell it off to another studio. THQ knows how to survive.

A buddy of mine asked me last week was armagedon a good game. The truth is the game was ok, but the games was fun. I have played a lot of games that were great games but werent really all that fun, armagedon really was a lot of fun. Sam & the portaganist back & forth was pretty funny at times. The game has to be played to relly be enjoyed

People often say of Red Faction 2 that is was an excellent game but it's fairly rubbish. The first though was certainly a lot better

I found the Red Faction games to be fairly fun, but now they can focus on a new IP. I'm always for that.
