Do We Look Back Too Fondly On Classic Video Games?

Thecrapgamer at GxC writes:
I like to consider myself old school when it comes to gaming and video games in general. I have quite a nice collection of everything from Atari, NES, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast and pretty much all the consoles in between. I started gaming at an early age back in the mid to late 1980′s and I always look back at those days with great fondness. I admit I rarely play those old consoles or games anymore and I think a big reason for that is that I’m so spoiled with great games now and days. It’s very hard to go from the great games that we tend to take for granted today, and go to an old school console and play a classic or retro game. I believe the developers, concepts and even the tech that we use today makes this truly the golden age of gaming. (Culture)

I was talking to a friend about this a few weeks back. When we played Streets of Rage 2 for free on PS+ we both asked ourselves the same question; who went and made these games worse since we last played them decades ago?!

I've got Golden Axe sitting waiting to be played but I might just leave it in my memory where it will shine with the rose tint of time.

Exactly the point, some games were virtually unplayable that were considered amazing back in the day.
