humble man. the failure of 3ds is his fault and he admitted it and even punished himself for it. not many people would do such a thing

guitarded772396d ago

He's Japanese... many in the culture value honor and know that to submit themselves to humiliation will be a reminder not to make the same mistake. We saw Sony do the same thing recently with the PSN outage... I respect both for telling the truth.

AAACE52396d ago

Its not hard to tell the truth once everyone knows a problem exist! Its not like they came out right away and admitted it. 3ds has not sold as expected and its been out several months.

Sony refused to comment on the ps3 outage as long as they could until they couldnt hide it anymore, similar to how ms did with the red ring problem.

"honor"... Wtf planet are you on? Bottomline is all that matters to corporations.

@ AAACE5
"Its not hard to tell the truth once everyone knows a problem exist!"

You must not be familiar with US or world politics for that matter... you must have also missed that whole BP oil spill thing... on and on... STFU. You're just being an asshat.

"Its not hard to tell the truth once everyone knows a problem exist!"

Tell that to people in prisons, people on trials, people at the head of other major corporations..... >_>

JokesOnYou2396d ago (Edited 2396d ago )

Why so upset?....he's right, these corporations aren't doing us any favors, I'm not neccessarily ready to call them "evil" either, fact is in business shiii happens, I dislike it everytime a company makes a mistake people try to bury them for it, but I also don't like it when people want to give 'em a free pass. NO every company has problems and them telling the "truth" isn't honorable, its what they HAVE TO DO before things get worst, all any legit consumer wants is for them to fix it and make better products for us. I agree with what AAACE5 said in each case it was already evident there was a problem, seriously even now reading Iwata's comments it sounds like nothing more than a PR piece put together by corporate speech writers becaue he dances around the reason why they need to do a price drop for the 3ds:

"First of all, we have made the decision to markdown the Nintendo 3DS because we recognize that the current situation surrounding the system is different from that before the launch and immediately after the launch"

-yeah its different alright, after the success of the whole DS line, the wii and the initial 3D hype, nintendo was expecting to sells bucket loads at that insane price point, consumers didn't jump on the bandwagon. Now obviously I don't expect anyone in his position to put it so bluntly, but he could have easily just been straight forward, no PR BS and just said the 3DS was underperforming their expectations and they are lowering the price to boost sales.

vvvvv Stealth2k, I don't think anybody would call 3DS a failure so soon, in the long run I think it will have great sales, but the fact that Nintendo is announcing a price drop SO SOON speaks for itself, of course its overpriced but had consumers wanted it regardless like so many Apple products then they would not be having a price drop at this early stage, therefore by pure logic 3DS cannot be selling ABOVE expectations as you or their forecast state....unless you honestly believe Nintendo wants to happy with their current profits from their 3DS investment.

@ JokesOnYou
I'm not upset that he made his point, I just get sick of the...

""honor"... Wtf planet are you on? Bottomline is all that matters to corporations."

smug ass comments that claim absolution... your comment makes your point without being a jerk, and I can handle that and have an actual conversation with you, but I'm not upset at all and I have no issue with a difference in opinion, just douches. This is my last bub, so PM me with comments if necessary.

EDIT: All I did was make a comment that to MANY (not all) Japanese, honor is very important and for the Japanese market, these kind of actions show humility... and to Westerners like me it shows that they are human. I do understand corporate greed and I agree Nintendo's purpose is to make money, but it's nice to see them actually make a statement and not spew out some simple PR BS.

The 3ds hasnt failed even in the slightest.

It was just over priced

Its still selling above expectations as indicated in the forecast

Lucreto2396d ago

Its too early to call it a failure.

The PS3 has low sales in its forst year as well and didn't have a decent launch line up.

There are 3 thinks effecting 3DS.

1. The price was higher for the casual market that bought it.

2. There is a lack of decent games on thesystem.

3 Recession is causing problems on new hardware. That is why Sony and Microsoft are waiting longer this generation before releasing a new machine.

Kee2396d ago (Edited 2396d ago )

"Since the first fiscal quarter has limited importance within the annual business of game companies"

Umm it has quite a bit of importance if you released a system then... I bet they're kicking themselves... They should've just waited...

Edit: and what does this even mean?-

"First of all, we have made the decision to markdown the Nintendo 3DS because we recognize that the current situation surrounding the system is different from that before the launch and immediately after the launch"

Knushwood Butt2396d ago

I think it means they admitted it was overpriced and that the soccer moms aren't interested in it.

Darkseeker2396d ago

The problem is that the 3DS had no good games at launch and even now, the majority of people only consider Zelda to be the only game worth getting.

At least, Nintendo made a good amount of profits on the ones they sold 250$.

-Alpha2396d ago

Yep. Their good games are coming thankfully, all saved up for Christmas, but summer is dry as a bone

Dwalls11712396d ago

In Lame terms ...3ds wasnt selling worth squat..and vita is closely approaching.

akaFullMetal2396d ago

I knew it was too expensive, and so did alot of moms and parents. As well they should have named it differently, since alot of people think its just an update to the regular ds.
