Issue 61 of Official Playstation Magazine has a first review of Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PS3. The game was granted an unprecedented 95% by PC Gamer; how does the PS3 version stack up?
"The game scored a very respectable 8/10, with minor things dragging the score down (immersion-breaking NPCs and ham-fisted boss fights were cited). From what we can see, no mention was made of any particular PS3-specific faults; the distance between the OPM and PC Gamer scores looks more likely to just be personal preference rather than platform discrepancies."
So it's deprived PC gamers ( I am one ) scoring the game high because we have seen no quality releases lately while PS3 Mag has had games like L.A Noire and Infamous 2 in the last couple of months.

A little bit surprising it's getting such high scores. A lot of people came away from E3 saying it was pretty rough. Glad to see they shaped it up.

Well, you know they gotta save the highest scores for PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 3. Wouldn't want a mere multiplatform game competing with those exclusives for goty. Based on everything I have seen and the comments of friends who have played the leaked preview code I strongly believe that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be one of the best games of the year.
@starchild, or maybe it is just not 10 worthy? Personally i'm thinking either ES:Skyrim or Uncharted 3 will get GOTY. Will be a tough choice, but either of those games look to be very well deserving of the award.
OPM 8 OXM 10 I guess Future's 360 review forgave what the PS3 review gigged it on. Either way I may or may not get it day one, we'll see
Did they just decide to ignore the 'long loading times' complaint?
I don't know about you but I personally think most console games have long loading times. So if it's got long loading times on console then that must be a pretty long time to wait.

8/10 seems somewhat low, but on gamespot both Deus Ex's scored in the 8's.
How is an 8 low? I think the 8 is a comfortable spot but I would have liked a 9. I can live with an 8, I was planning on buying it day one without hearing anything from reviewers. You guys need to think about what is considered as a low score and what doesn't.
I like how in depth we're going in the analysis of a number assigned to a game such as Deus Ex. Who cares it's being called good/great/awesome those words alone should be enough to warrant a purchase. Plus the difference between 9 and 8 is minuscule.
8 means a must buy but people act like 8 is a rent or pass rent a game if you are undecided don't just let a score be the deciding factor
It's an odd situation. I'd say 7+ used to be games that were definitely worth checking out, but reviewers and everyone else seem to have made it that 9+ is the only acceptable score or a game is garbage. Even look at the rankings for Metacritic and the cut off points for "yellow" and "green" for movies and music against games.
The numbers have never mattered nearly as much as the review itself. The fact that we're prioritizing the number nowadays is, to me, a clear sign that the amount of thought people put into their opinion of a game has dropped severely. I think it has a lot to do with the internet.
A descent review and still more to come . Hopefully my expectations for this game will be meet .
8's from OPM are actually pretty good. Usually there is enough downside to warrant the score or something just don't click right. Unfortunately, I haven't read the review but I'm pretty sure it's more than just "immersion-breaking NPCs and ham-fisted boss fights were cited" unless it's really bad, because immersion-breaking NPC can disrupt the flow of gameplay and can be pretty bad.
Oh well, PC gamers know best! :P In all seriousness, this is just one of those games that will be best experienced on a PC, if you have a good enough setup. It just has that feel to it. And after all, the Deus Ex series has a HUGE existing PC fanbase, since the last 2 games were exclusive to that platform. I'm a console gamer mainly and will probably be getting the PS3 version. As much as the PC version cries out to me, I think I would rather play this one in front of a TV and my friends can watch me play, observe, discuss and even take over and play themselves. Oh, and trophies! =D
Actually the first one was also on the PS2 and the 2nd one Invisible War was on the original Xbox. PS: If you buy the digital PC version on STEAM they have Achievements, LOL. You're 1 for 3 right now. The part you got right is it will be best on PC. BTW most PC gamers connect to large screen LCD TVs with an hdmi cable these days and have been for years. I play mine on my 42" 120hz 1080p LCD.
Definitely play those on PC though. The PS2 version of Deus Ex 1 has what is normally 1 level chopped up into 2-5 load zones. Anyone remember liberty island and you start at the docks? JUST the docks was 1 area....
You're right there DaCajun. However, to me the games might as well have been exclusives as far as how superior they were on PC. And to be honest, the console version will be not hugely different to the PC version for DE:HR. And about the game on Steam... personally, I dislike buying digital versions of full games. It doesn't feel like I own it, which is also why the console version also enticed me because of some sort of achievement system.
^Agreed. I now have my PC connected to both my monitor and my 46" HDTV. Honestly, it's the only way to truly experience PC gaming for its graphical advantage over consoles since you can see the differences. Though most games look great on my 23" monitor, it looks even better in double the physical screen size at 1080p.

Wait wait wait. "There was also the issue of having too little ammo, which apparently meant going all-out, guns blazing was a very short-lived option." Um, ammo is supposed to be scarce, not infinite or overly abundant. If it is so abundant, what is the point of even having ammo in a game? ESPECIALLY in a game that is MORE than just a shooter.
im glad the ammo is scarce, it forces you to think. that's how the first game was too. it'd break the game if you could just blow through it without having to worry about ammo.
It seems to me that if you want to properly review this game you have to play it a few times applying different approaches. Be it stealth, all out combat or combination ect. Tricky review? Yes. Interesting game? YES imo
Roll on release day, can't wait to play the prequal to my favourite ever game (Deus Ex).

I couldn't care less about their score. PC version is the only one I'm concerned with.
Starting in August there will be anywhere from 1-3 triple AAA rated games coming out per month.. God help my pockets.
I'm just glad this didn't become another DX Invisible War, was worried square enix would've made that game look good.

All reviews are based on personal preference. There is no such thing as an objective review. It's impossible. All reviews are highly subjective, bias opinions. That is why there are so many. If it was possible to have an objective unbiased review we would only need one. Fortunately I can pick whatever platform I wish. I was going to go with the PC version, but opted for the 360 version instead. Just pre-ordered it. I'll keep my PS3 on standby until Uncharted 3.
Ok how is 8 bad I saw this on here before so people can understand 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, 8,9,10 seven worse scores under 8 and two better scores above 8 so how is 8 bad?
Indeed. Its really decent if you ask me. Its a platform magazine though so I can see bias being possible, but even through that to have an 8 is respectable. 8 = Great long term gameplay if you ask me.
