Sure, blame the messenger....

MaxXAttaxX2456d ago (Edited 2456d ago )

Dude, you're in nearly all Sony related article with the same negative attitude towards their products.

If you don't like it, why don't you just stay away.

[On topic]

I think gaming handhelds have the best controls for portable gaming.
Touch-only controls or crappy keypads can't compare.
As a gamer, that's what I care about.

For the people that have been gaming on portable systems for years, mobile $1-$5 mini-games are not going to change anything for us. Missing out on beloved and well-known franchises? No thanks.

gamingdroid2456d ago

First of all, I didn't say a darn thing about Sony in this comment... so it sounds more like you have a grudge for me?

I never said, I never liked PS Vita. In fact, if anything I have praised it, but that is besides the point. EA has expressed their opinion so why blame CVG for bringing you the news.

By the way, if you don't like my comments, you don't have to read it. :D

miyamoto2456d ago (Edited 2456d ago )

Nintendo & Sony should combine forces again!
To make sure both of them succeed.

DARKrage342456d ago

That would be EPIC...

Too bad Nintendohh stabbed Sony in the back by opting to go for something other than CD-ROM when the PS was in development.

i tell what the day dedicated handhelds stop being made, and i have to rely on phones/tablets to get me gaming on the go i'll stop gaming on the go.

to me when i see people playing on tablets like ipad and whatnot it looks complete retarded. for me i need proper controls when gaming. also i like full fledged games not these flash games or games where im just swiping my finger across the screen. to me this is not gaming.

i know when ill be going to/from work ill be playing the vita with its proper controls not phones/tablets where all i do is swipe my damn finger across the screen.

Kran2457d ago (Edited 2457d ago )

Whatever you say EA... ¬¬'

Theres a massive difference between tablet/mobile gaming and portable handheld gaming, and EA doesnt seem to realise that. Mobile gaming is mostly small games you play when you're bored at work/in class, whereas portable handhelds are for gaming as if you were playing on a console, or something to play on the train to work or during your lunch break.

gamingdroid2457d ago (Edited 2457d ago )

I don't disagree with you on the games part, albeit there are some great games on mobiles too. Some with great production value.

However, people bought handhelds because mobiles weren't as prolific and was NOT at the time good enough. Now they are good enough for the casual gamer.

I think EA is right, the handheld market is going to shrink.

That said, PS Vita might be the greatest PSP unit ever made.... However, there is a lot of negative outlook from developers which doesn't help the platform nor the fact that Nintendo is dropping their price.

rezzah2457d ago

Like you said, for the casual gamer.

but what about the rest? Thats what these handhelds has to offer us. Games that can't be done or found on a Ipad.

It also offers a better and more comfortable way to game. tapping on a screen forever isn't going to be fun and lacks variety in ways to play games.

StbI9902456d ago

Casual > Hardcore or non casual.

For each 1 harcore there must be 100 casual out there, Iphone 5 > 3DS < Vita.

StanSmith2457d ago

What you must remember though is those looking for fully fledged games like Uncharted on Vita and Resident Evil on 3DS, are a minority to these companies now. They get a better profit margin for quick short games on Android & Itunes then they do on 3DS & Vita.

Vita and 3DS will probably be the last handhelds as the market has changed now. Look how well Move, Kinect and the Wii have sold. We were once the people these companies focus on. Now we are the minority. Gaming has been changing for a couple of years. Just look how short some games are lately only to offer DLC on day 1. We're gonna get shorter, cheaper games soon that will offer the rest of the games as DLC & frankly, It Sucks!!!

jetlian2456d ago

with most of your post. However games aren't shorter. Didn't have hardly any 6 hour games 20 years ago unless you count pacman or donkey kong.

jneul2456d ago

it may be going in that direction, allthough if it does i predict a similar thing of what happened back in the 80's to repeat, if developers get lazy and look for small fast develop games, most of them will be shovelware and not even casuals will be willing to put up with mediocre games forever.
however i don't ever think it will there is still than enough core gamers to keep true gaming alive thankyou

"Mobile gaming is mostly small games you play when you're bored at work/in class, whereas portable handhelds are for gaming as if you were playing on a console, or something to play on the train to work or during your lunch break."

You have it the other way around.
Recent data shows that mobile gaming is on the rise faster than dedicated hand held gaming especially on transit systems and on the go type situations.

I personally have notice this trend over the past two years.
I work in the downtown core and drop my car off at the bus station to take the subway to work. On the Subway more people are using cell phones and or Tablets for fast gaming then dedicated hand helds like the PSP or DS.
Also the age demographics has changed also.
Recent data has showed more 18-35+ age groups are using their Smart Phones/Tablets for mobile on the go gaming than DS or PSP hand helds.

This quote also speaks truth:

"After all, how many devices do people want to carry?"

It's all about convergence. I know WOULD NEVER BRING my PSP or DS on the train to work or use it at lunch time for example.
That means I am carrying my Laptop, Smart Phone and my hand held to work?
I use my hand held for longer trips and at home when I have the time.
My daily work commute and lunch breaks I use my GalaxySII for my quick gaming needs.

jetlian2456d ago

and how many of these people play core games anyway? Probably zero percent!

Fact is if your looking for real games you'll need vita or 3ds

Close_Second2457d ago

Only difference is physical controls and that smartphone/tablet gaming is catching up.

miyamoto2456d ago (Edited 2456d ago )

Good point bro!

Remember in the early day of the iPhone how third party peripheral companies scrambled like crazy to develop the perfect physical controller add-on?

Knowing Apple, they might be one announcement away from pulling out their proprietary gaming hardware attachment to market the iOS devices as a hardcore gaming device.

And we know how people respond to Apple marketing.

For Example: If Apple make their own iControl Pad

I believe the Vita is also capable of playing games from the iOS, WP7 and Andriod because its integrated to the PS Suite isn't it? So I don't know what these analyst and devs are worried about?

Close_Second2457d ago

Vita wont have ios integration cause that would give people a choice instead of buying Apple h/w.

Open Vita up to Android and you open the door to hacks from day 1. Is Sony really playing that game?

tiffac2456d ago

Good point.

I'm not 100% sure about opening their systems to the other OS but there has been rumors that PS Suite will be available to Vita (again not confirmed) and PS Suite will be compatible with the apps of the OS mentioned.

Again I don't have much proof of anything that's why I left what I said in a questioning state. ^^

cervantes992457d ago (Edited 2457d ago )

I agree with you, BUT ...

For the Vita to be successful, Sony must educate the mainstream gamer of these cool features.

Sony needs demo units at every store and a large advertising push showcasing these features.

Hopefully, Sony is up to the challenge, because I will be getting one day one - $250 is stupid cheap for this technology.

tiffac2457d ago

"For the Vita to be successful, Sony must educate the mainstream gamer of these cool features."

^ This

Lets hope Sony nails it down this time and not just go "It only does everything" without explaining much and confuses the not in the know crowd.

Close_Second2457d ago

Get off your Sony soapbox. Vita has everything to prove. Furthermore, do you think that smartphones will stand still for the next 5 years just cause the Vita will?
