Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Originally Planned as Download Content

Andriasang: Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a budget priced standalone release. But this wasn't always the plan. In an creators interview in Famitsu this week, the game's staff reveals that the game was originally planned as download content for MVC3.

Why didn't you just release these characters on the first MVC3 in the box?

Nitrowolf22465d ago (Edited 2465d ago )

Because Capcom is a dying Company when it comes to innovation. They like to keep content back and release it later on in a games life trying to make it look like some amazing package of some sort. I mean IDK maybe Innovation isn't the right word, but either way taking a look at their past business model shows. Many devs do it this gen. They hold back a game with DLC that should have been apart from launch. That's what i loved about last Gen. The game that you bought was a complete package, not some half done game.

How dare they charge us for things that should have been there to start. Plus I learned that when they say things like "We have a Huge surprise" it's something small from them.

@ DaThreats

Completely agree. This stuff is already made yet they hold off the release for 4 months as of today. Why you ask? Simple they're greedy asses want you to buy it doing the biggest shopping season.

Jonah_Reese2465d ago

That question is really simple to answer and I'm defending them at all, they couldn't simply release them they had to license them first even the characters made by their company can't simply be put in the fighting game. It's not so simple just put whatever character they want in the game.

Hicken2465d ago

And these characters that should have been in the game from the start couldn't have been licensed at the same time as all the others?

Jonah_Reese2465d ago (Edited 2465d ago )

No it takes weeks (maybe longer or shorter) to license them before that you have convince them (Marvel mainly) to allow the characters they want. Marvel didn't want them to have Cyclops and a few others. Heck they had just license Jill and Shuma Gorath, by that time the game's release date was close and they decided to release them as DLC.

Hicken2465d ago

And how long has this game been in development? How long did Capcom KNOW they wanted these characters in the game? (Also, why would they need to license Jill, who's one of their own characters?)

That's a BS excuse. They knew more than a year ago that they'd be making this game. THAT should have been the time to get licensing rights, not a few weeks before the game comes out. It's not like they have to acquire them one at a time. And half the characters- as I mentioned with Jill- are theirs; why no Megaman?

There's honestly no excuse for the laziness.

Jonah_Reese2465d ago (Edited 2465d ago )

They do have to license them one at a time and they have to re-license their own characters like I said, I'm not making excuses for anybody as a matter of fact I think it's BS that they re-released the game so early. Instead of just doing DLC.

Also LIKE I SAID, Capcom HAS Negotiate with Marvel for the choice character that in of it's self takes time but it obviously took less time now since MVC3 was a success. And as for the laziness, even the most crappy games take a lot of time to develop so calling a game dev lazy is just disrespectful.

But whatever I know what I know. People just want to complain about Capcom, I have not once heard anyone complain about Mortal Kombat's DLC characters.

gamingdroid2465d ago

They could have made it a DLC instead of fracturing the community (sigh, again).

I jumped on the SFIV bandwagon, but held off on MvC3. Glad I did, now I can enjoy UMvC3. Since I don't like how Capcom is behaving I will wait until it hits the bargain bin!

They haven't even finished making all the characters that were leaked. The game is still in development.

It's funny...UMVC3 was announced ~5 months after the original and it looks like they are done with everything (including all the new characters)...Why couldn't they just delay the release 5 months and release one version for the holiday season? I makes no sense to piss of your customers like they are doing now. I predict Capcom (as a company) won't last for much longer if they continue the way they are...Hell they're worse than Activision now...As much as I don't want to admit it. Capcom has really gone to hell this gen.

akaFullMetal2465d ago

should be dlc at least, but really should of been in the game the first time. Screw you capcom, what the hell happened to you this gen?

darfreeze2465d ago

So...should I sell my MvC3 now? lol
