BioWare: Mass Effect 3 designed 'to be a new beginning'

Mass Effect 3 is obviously the concluding chapter in Shepard's battle against the Reapers, but BioWare says the game was designed "to be a new beginning" for the franchise.

"We designed Mass Effect 3 to be a new beginning," said BioWare marketing director David Silverman in an interview with CVG. "This series definitely doesn't end with Mass Effect 3."

If there was ever a franchise that needed milking its Mass Effect.

I hope they make another 20 games.

I'd love a Mass Effect game where you got to play from the Geths point of view.

Wouldn't you like another new universe from them? I would prefer another new thing from them, like Naughty dog aswell, they finish up with franchises after 3 or 4 installments. Then make something new, Uncharted wouldn't exist if they didn't, either would Jak and Daxter. ME wouldn't exist if Bioware did this.

I wouldn't mind if they another ME one like eh...Firefly(anyone seen it?) you are a smuggler or Bounty hunter etc. Not on the alliance side and not a soldier.

Foxgod2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

Another universe ?
No, i want all the story's to happen in the same universe, so that there is a connection between all the ME game story's.

Perhaps in the next trilogy ME could go farther into the future, where humanity is capable of travelling to other galaxy's instead of traveling around the milky way, like the Andromeda galaxy, and for example find out more about the origin of the reapers.

theres so much back story in this. i enjoy listening to the codexs as much as i do playing the game.

Disccordia2583d ago

I have the agree with The Meerkat.

The universe is big and rich enough to keep on telling stories. I honestly would play a game every year if they kept up the quality.

TheGameFoxJTV2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

With a universe this rich they can make a TON of spinoffs that still feel fresh, take the books and comics as proof of that. That's the difference between Mass Effect and other games like (Halo, CoD and stuff) While they may provide some backstory, the worlds still feel shallow. There are fricking encyclopedias right in the mass effect games just so you understand everything. lol, that's a complex world.

Kee2583d ago

Yeah, I don't care if they make another 3 with a different story after that.

Mass effect 2 was a good game.

I mean, EA have a way with milking franchises (see:[insert yearly sports sim here]) but the way I see it is as long as the games are still good, then everybody's happy.

Foxgod2583d ago

MIlking can be good or bad, in case of Mass effect its good!!
We need more games, comics, movies etch all based on mass effect!!

TheGameFoxJTV2583d ago

the modern day Star Wars or Star Trek.

Dlacy13g2583d ago

Milking ME? No, I don't think EA / Bioware are milking ME... now, if you said they were milking Dragon Age I would agree after the last game. Clearly they pushed that out too fast and probably to satisfy some internal quota of a game a year that they have with the EA partnership.

YES! guess this means a new commander!

TheGameFoxJTV2583d ago

For all we know, this could be a hint at a new character that starts the game as a plummer. Why would they do the same situation in a new time line? lol

Neckbear2583d ago

When this is said about a franchise that was designed as a trilogy, to the point one of its selling points was that you could transfer save datas from previous games, well...

theonlylolking2583d ago

It would be nice is mass effect had cloud saves so I could use my commander on different platforms.

LightofDarkness2583d ago

So yeah, EA have adopted the Activision model it seems. Next year we'll have Mass Effect: Space Ops or something equally dumb, made by some developer too devoid of original thought to craft their own IP (with multiplayer by DICE, obv), while the main series continues to be milked every 2 years.

I guess that means we won't have a satisfying end to the trilogy now...

Foxgod2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

Why want an end to something great?
I rather have something great to go on forever, and only let mediocre things end.

And where are the spinoffs?
I would love to have a spinoff, but mass effect yet needs to have one spinoff, and we are on the third one already.

Massive amounts of other franchises already had spinoffs by the time they hit the third game in the series.

LightofDarkness2583d ago (Edited 2583d ago )

All good stories must come to an end, otherwise they get boring. There's only so far you can go with a set of characters, they have "arcs" that must be completed in order for us to see their evolution as a person/character. When they don't seem to end or are artificially prolonged somehow, the audience gets frustrated and bored.

Not only that, the creators and writers get bored, which means the quality goes down quite a bit after some time. Then these people, who are clearly bored talking about the same people for years, will decide to move on. But the publishers don't want it to end, they like money, so they hire a bunch of other people who have different visions and aptitudes compared to the originals, who proceed to take things in (usually bad) new directions.

Once it stops being a labour of love, it jsut becomes laboured.

Foxgod2583d ago

I disagree, look at X-men, 60 years in the making and still going strong.
You just need to keep creating fresh stories.
