GR: I think Capcom needs to cease and desist this sh**.
This might be fake.
If anything they brought attention to the Megaman series. Why would they get in trouble? Capcom sucks!
It's almost as if Capcom is trying to sweep the Mega Man series under the rug now that Inafune left. It's like they're pissed at him and are taking revenge by killing the blue bomber off.
The should at least sell the Mega Man rights if the are just going to kill him. Would love to see what Insomniac or Rare could do with Mega Man.
that band have been actively making covers off of MegaMan music since 2003, why now all of a sudden Capcom is doing this? Why Megaman became such a taboo to Capcom?
Seems stupid for Capcom to do this. All the bad is doing is promoting the Mega man series. How is that a bad thing?
EA -> ACTIVISON -> CAPCOM Any one else seeing the pattern here? Capcom have scooped to a new low and I might just boycott them completely for this. Thank god for Naught Dog and Valve.
This is fake... bogus email
http://twitter.com/#!/Proto... Do you see anything about it on The Protomen's twitter? No? Ok. again - This is a bogus email. It's old too, from February.
visit their site and tell me it's fake. http://www.theprotomen.com/ go on.
I've about had it with Capcom. This is just getting to be too much.
Everyone, it's a fake. Just some trolling to fan the Capcom flames as of late.
Correct me if I'm wrong but, I was under the impression that covers aren't illegal as long as you're not claiming that the song is originally yours. I don't think Crapcom could win this. Even still, to send a C&D to a cover band is ridiculous. I guess they're pissed they can't do anything about all the Youtube covers. The Protomen should just move their MegaMan covers there.
Actually covers are very much in violation of the copyright act, one of the key rights granted to copyright holders is to publicly perform their works. Music publishers have teams of trolls that go to local bars and restaurants to check if anyone is infringing on their copyrights. The letter cited is dated February 20, so I don't know how real this is. If they claim fair use and start by citing campbell v. acuff-rose, they might have a shot, but I'm not so sure, since they really don't do anything new with the music except play it. I'm sure if someone started a rock band that plays covers of Harry Gregson-Williams scores, they'd lose as well.
Honestly, whether this is real or not, at this point I wouldn't put it past Capcom. I don't know what happened recently (specifically with the MM franchise) but if they tried to pursue legal action it wouldn't be entirely out of the picture, especially if the story about kicking out a Tron Bonne cosplayer from the Comic-Con booth turns out to be true.
if it is fake, why does the protomen site go straight to capcom unity? who really doubts capcom would do this anyway? personally i think capcom needs to fuck off and die in a ditch somewhere.
their website was hacked a few days ago... all the work of internet trolls trying to direct more hate towards capcom, sigh...
