Hey, PC! When did you get so attractive?

CVG: Theme Hospital and Settlers III are my fondest PC memories.

Throw in a bit of Red Alert, Blade Runner and Starship Titanic - a game that seems to have been shamefully forgotten these days - and you'll have a pretty good idea of how the ten-year-old me spent his time.

You'll notice none of the above titles are particular pixel-pushers (although Starship was a looker). By the time the likes of Crysis was making PC gamers sweat, I'd been bitten by the console bug.

About a year and a half ago for me..

Consoles I use just for 3rd person adventure games..

jaosobno2407d ago

I don't know if I this is just a fad due to consoles being at the end of their lifetime and showing age all over the place, but PC gaming seems to be on the rise lately.

Hopefully, this won't change when PS4/X720 come out. It would be sad if PC's ended up being ignored once again for years by developers just because new consoles are out.

RankFTW2407d ago

PC graphics have widened the gap so far now that even next gen consoles won't be able to catch up.

jaosobno2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

I hope you are right. It's time for PC gaming to once again find its rightful place in the gaming world.

stu8882407d ago

^ a bit like in the past?... nope. The new gen of consoles has always out done PCs for about a year until PCs take over again. This gen it was Gears of War... IGN quote by Erik Brudvig "Gears of War is the best looking game I've ever seen. No contest."

PS4/720 will be able to produce better graphics than BF3 and Crysis 2 DX11.

Mark my words... I'll take the disagrees are because you PC gamers are ignorant and blind.

And before someone says im ignorant, I will easily admit that PCs graphics now are better than console.

ViserysTargaryen2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Build my gaming PC when the PSN got owned by hackers and I barely touched Killzone 3 since then. PS3 games just look like crap now and I got hooked on buying games at rock bottom prices on Steam. There is no reason for me to pay the absurd console tax for inferior looking games while I can buy PC games that looks 3 times better for peanuts.

trancefreak2407d ago

Funny you say that I did the same exact thing.

The only console game I've played is LB2 with my 2 year old and well of course GT5.

bozebo2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Yeah, there are some awesome console games out there. But as a platform, PC is better. Consoles originally existed to provide consumers with a means of gaming without needing to spend crazy amounts of cash on a PC - since about 2006, a highly capable gaming PC is no longer unaffordable - the reason consoles exist is simply to make a load of cash (I have seen people pay more for their 360 and accessories than a good home built gaming PC would cost).

I'm glad I had consoles this gen because there were a handful of excellent games I wouldn't have wanted to miss (mgs4, halo, losy odyssey, RDR), but I won't be buying one next gen. The console exclusives have been getting worse every generation: FF is no longer good, Halo is going to go stale, tekken is bad now, where are the platformers? The new IPs don't do it for me :( - except some of the huge number of new IPs on PC.

I would rather have 1 gaming machine that plays 80% of all games ever released. And a load of popular console games are better on PC: AC, Bioshock, ME, Street Fighter (no you don't play with the kbd lol), Fable to name a few.

And some PC games totally worth checking out (google them): Mount & Blade: Warband, Terraria, LoL (extremely popular right now), Killing Floor.
None of which require a powerful PC.

Custom factory built PC, that can't be cheap. If you'd built that your self that'd be like $100-$200 dollars cheaper

PC will never give you what a PS3 or X360 can give. While you put in your disc on consoles and it simply works... a PC can always bring up errors during Gaming. I experienced that very often. And you always have to upgrade your hardware time after time. While on consoles developers work with the hardware they were given and always try to get the best out of it. A few better textures don't make me buy an expensive PC.

I know a lot of people who were PC Gamer and they switched to consoles when PS3 and X360 launched and they'll never go back again. Switching back because of Sony being Hacked is cheap and a clear sign you were never much into PS3.

Another point are the awesome exclusives that make a console really shine through a lot of other games. The best games this generation are (only) on consoles.

I will stick to consoles and buy the next one in 2-3 years. I won't go back to PC Gaming. I do my work, surfing etc on PC and that's fine - but games will be played on consoles.

HAF9122407d ago

You talk nonsense. PS3 Can freeze and restart. Has done so for me many times.

STEAM gaming = automatic updates and no errors for me.

x8002407d ago

you sir dont know what your doing!

bozebo2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

"The best games this generation are (only) on consoles."

lol NO. The majority of great games this gen are multiplat and are far better on PC.

Brilliant/big budget games that are on PC/multiplat this gen:
ME, BS, CoD, BC2, Street Fighter 4, Guitar Hero 3, WoW, SWToR, LoL, SC2, Portal 2, L4D, AC, The Witcher, GTA 4. And about 10 times that many again.

Brilliant/big budget console only games this gen would be:
Nintendo games, Halo, Lost Odyssey, RDR, UC, Jak and Daxter, MGS4, Heavy Rain, LBP, GoW and GeoW; if you like heavy/sludgy unreal engine defaultness. And probably a decent bunch more.

And thats games from different consoles, so they don't add up to make a dominant platoform or it would be way more expensive than a PC and peripherals.

People who care about good games would own all platforms, and be most appreciative of the PC

GAMES which look and will look stellar...
.... Diablo, BF, PlanetSide........

Armyntt2407d ago

My biggest reason i DONT PC game is because i like playin games on my 72" tv sittin on my couch not uncomfortable sittin at a computer desk. Plus in my house all we have is 3 laptops.

Motion2407d ago

Here, I went through the trouble of finding you a walk through on how to plug your computer into your TV

Laptops work too!
I assume you'll be able to attach a controller yourself :)

You can thank me later.

Baka-akaB2407d ago

lol i use my pc on my couch with my 46" plasma . That excuse was never really valid , and even less now with various ways , one easier than the other to setup things

ViserysTargaryen2407d ago

This sounds like bullshit. I have a 60" LX900, and thats about the best set you can get in that range from Sony. In 2010 it cost me a bank breaking 4K and the damn thing doesn't even do local dimming. Anyways if you actually have a TV this large you'll realize that 720p games looks like shit on sets of this size. The blurry textures that most gamers will never notice becomes freaking huge patches of gray.

Armyntt2407d ago

What part is bullshit. My reasoning or the fact that your saying hookin up a pc to our tv's isnt going to look that good?

death2smoochie2407d ago

I play quite a few of my PC games on my HDTV using my Xbox360 or PS3 controller...

Now if you ever use Eyefinity or Nividia's multiple monitor will NEVER look at Console gaming the same way ever again.

Armyntt2407d ago

Im no bubble whore but damn i dont understand why i lost bubbles. My opinion makes a person lose bubbles around here. Only on N4G.

CaptCalvin2407d ago

It's because ur opinion doesn't make sense. Your "reason" doesn't explain why you don't game on a PC, as you can just as easily hook up gamepads and TVs to a PC and game from you couch as consoles.

I made a +bubble vote for u because I'm in a good mood.

Armyntt2407d ago

I get people might not like my reasoning but i thought you bubble peopled down for being immature, trolling, cursing etc. None of which i did.

Pc is too expensive for a games machine. £500-£600 for a half decent machine is too much.

Motion2407d ago

Very true. Its a good thing that they are also very useful/necessary for other things as well.

Apollyn2407d ago

Eaaily make that money back due to cost of games being alot cheaper

HAF9122407d ago

you are wrong. Console gaming is more expensive. You arent calculating the high cost of console peripherals and games. Dont even get me started on xbox live. After all is said and done the cost of owning an xbox after 6 years is $1000. You heard me right. PS3 is about 700.

Either way, the PC for that price can be ahead of consoles the entire time. (And even more so if you upgrade, but you dont have to).

death2smoochie2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

You can build a gaming rig for under $800 that does more than just game.
It can run the entire Adobe Software suite including After Effects, Photoshop.
It will also run Maya 3D and others programs like it.

Games on consoles also cost a lot more than the very same PC game. Not even taking into consideration STEAM where you can buy triple A games for $10 at times....that same game will cost you $50+ on a console....
Then when you add up the cost of spending an extra $5-$15 more on each game...that so called cheap console is now considerably more expensive than that gaming PC.
