Average price of XBLA games increasing

The average price of an Xbox Live Arcade game has crept up in recent years, Microsoft has admitted.

XBLA portfolio director Chris Charla told GamesIndustry.biz that its digital releases are bucking the App Store trend for ever cheaper experiences.

"If you look at Live Arcade, and do the math, and look at the publicly available sales numbers, you can see that average prices on XBLA have crept up over the last few years, which has been an interesting trend because on some app markets there's been a race to zero as fast as possible," he said.

Oh ok, thats alright I dont buy/play Arcade Games so its all good for me.

StanLee2314d ago

I do. The prices have crept up but the quality of the games have certainly gotten better as well. Some a better than many retail releases we see.

I agree with Stan. The first guy is missing out on one of the best things about this gen, the quality and affordability of Arcade/PSN games.

Redgehammer2313d ago

I agreee. For example, I am playinmg Bastion right now, and I feel it is a great game and well worth the money.

Laypoof2314d ago

It usually goes like this: the higher the sales, the lower the price.

So I don't know what the deal is with Micro$oft...

Redgehammer2313d ago

That is, eventually the prices go down, but it does not start that way.

the size and scope of these games has also increased, which isn't something the article addresses in depth

some of the games being sold as arcade games started as disc games

by releasing via arcade they can cut some cost and reach a perhaps wider margin than before

evrfighter2314d ago

hasn't stopped valve from selling games like ME2, Fallout 3 GoTY edition, GTA4 + all episodes, L4d1+2 bundle, for less than 10 bucks now has it...

outlawlife2314d ago (Edited 2314d ago )

discounting of old games is hardly anything new, and costs even less when delivered via steam

I fail to see what your point is relating discounted games to ones that there only point of sale is through digital distribution

old arcade games are are also discounted on a regular basis, however it is up to the publisher to put in for a lowered price on LIVE and PSN and very few of them do

there is an option on the xbox dash to view recently reduced items as well as items that are on sale
