BioShock Infinite Unreal Engine 3 mods detailed

Irrational Games boss Ken Levine has detailed some of the work his team had to do to get BioShock Infinite running inside the Unreal Engine 3, including writing much of the lighting model.

"It's a piece of middleware, but a very useful piece of middleware," Levine told Nowgamer. "I think if you just rely on what it gives you, you're not going to come up with a compelling experience, because people will have seen that experience before. You really have to make it your own."

Not sure if that E3 demo was on PC or 360 but it looked amazing in terms of visual style and raw graphics.

They basically said the exact same thing about Bioshock 1 and how the customized the engine to work the way they wanted.

ALL devs customize whatever engine they have to work with the vision of the game...at least the good ones do.

Bioshock Infinite has a great art style and the story, seeing how these guys are from Boston, always revolves around similar constitutional ideas.

Lukas arts recently signed Unreal for all their games and with their previous work with Euphoria, I'm expect big things.

I think that maybe their is some truth to Silicon knights assertions that Epic is with holding some code as the lighting and smoke in Gears 3 is of a higher caliber than I've seen so far from Bioshock Infinite or Batman. Mass Effect on the other hand does look very similar to Gears.

Regardless...Bioshock looks like it's a winner. I like the obvious Alan Wake influence as well.
