Call of Duty Elite Beta to Help or Hurt Its Success?

"On May 31st, Activision evoked concern for many with the unveiling of a subscription-based service for the highly successful franchise, Call of Duty. Beachhead, the new studio behind the subscription-based service, Call of Duty Elite quickly calmed the outrage by informing the media that Elite will simply “enrich the Call of Duty multiplayer experience”, but will not be required in order to play the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 online."

As a gamer who enjoys first-person shooters, I am not the one to stress over my K/D ratio, study the statistics of my opponents, etc. I simply hop online, work towards my objective, and call it a day. However, I do understand that there are a large percentage of first-person shooter enthusiasts who carry out their experience in the opposing manner and rely heavily on the statistics of one’s profile. These gamers are the ones Activision will be fighting to recruit and what better way for one to receive hands-on time than to take part in the beta.

Yay! The first step to the monetization of the most whored-out, annualizable FPS in history!

I think it's bad cause......

People can make clans & recruit only high k/d ratio people.

Which can make the game no fun for less skilled players like my self.

I just don't want to be matched with a clan more often who would whip my ass.

That's all this Elite system will do I'm afraid.

successful for them cause they will rope people in who are willing to waste there money for what they can already get for free with anything else

hey it worked for MS and XBL so youre right about that and im sure Activisiion sees it that way too.

Neither. It'll just make them more money. That's the general idea, I'm sure.

Hurt, in my opinion. Quick non-definitive example: YouTube videos for it currently have more dislikes than likes whilst the other CoD videos (such as the MW3 announce) have far more likes than dislikes. I'm sure most people can see it's a useless gimmick.
