Portal still impresses me to this day.

Golden Eye had smooth aiming controls? O.O

If you played using the 'Solitaire' control scheme it was. That's how the pro's played.

Metal Gear solid 1 was WAYYYYYYYYYYYY ahead of it's time. It spoke personally to the player (ie the person playing the game) in a (albeit sometimes creepy) way that no game had quite done before.

Really surprised it didn't get a mention...

True that. Any disagrees are from the 15-years who were too young to enjoy MGS at launch.

Remember the Psycho Mantis scene where he READ YOUR MEMORY CARD? Or the fact that, since he could read your mind you had to use the second-player controller?

The story, cinematics, characters, gameplay, many things we see in modern games were first done in MGS.

Yeah, he was like "You like action games?"
That boss altogether was just genius.
Playing that game changed the way I thought about boss fights.

Even things like on the codec Mei ling would say "you're lucky you have enough time to play video games, most people are too busy"

Tonnes of games out now owe so much to MGS and what it did.

I showed my dad the part in 4 where he vibrates the controller and even he went "i remember him, you had to switch controllers". I didn't show him that so i'm assuming he has played MGS at somepoint.

decent list but,

"There are over 500 ways to die in this level alone, and GLaDOS takes great pleasure in every one of them."

I call bullshit. If twas a joke, i didn't get it.

crysis graphics beats modern games

Pintheshadows2322d ago (Edited 2322d ago )

That alone does not make it ahead of its time.

It's about themes, ideas and revolutionary gameplay that can still be seen today in some cases.

I'd go with Elite, Half Life, Daggerfall, Deus Ex and Thief.

Snowii2322d ago

a super suit that makes you go invisible super strong and super fast isent revolutionary?

artynerd2322d ago

^ maybe within the realm of Crysis' narrative, but in gaming in general? It's actually pretty cliche.
