Why co-op gaming rules 2011

OXM UK: "It's said that misery loves company. We've never quite understood why misery deserves the distinction of a proverb on that count, when there are so many other things out there that dig hugs and backslaps just as much. Labyrinths of pressure panels, wormholes and repulsion pads, for instance, "love company". Assaults on dug-in engineer squads "love company". Hordes of excitable undead "love company". Frankly, we're struggling to think of a state of mind, scenario or unspeakable bodily process that doesn't."

The story is too old to be commented.

The thing about Portal 2 though is that you could only go online if you play with someone else. I know it's the whole point of online features but for the game to rely on co-op and helping each other it only was good if you had a friend to play with because let's face it having a friend (you know)is better then playing with a random stranger. It's not like Deathmatch games in multiplayer since everyone is for themselfs anyway. My friends got it for the 360 instead and since I don't like co-op games that much I basicaly payed for a game where I'm only going to play half the content .

Valve should look into adding AI, I know it will be tough since you have to do things at the same time etc but it's not impossible. Plus Valve said they cut the script for Portal 2's single player so they could add Co-Op....sorry but I'd rather have a longer single player then a co-op mode since it isn't as funny as the campaign.

Only because you don't have enough friends with a PS3 copy of the game. Co-op was extremely fun for me playing with a friend and I'm glad they added something fresh to the 2nd one.

I really don't see this ever working in a good way in a co-op game. Isn't the whole point of co-op to play with a friend? AI will never be as fun and in some cases funny to play with as a friend. So many times my friend and I were just dicking around during the missions trying stuff out.

I meant funny as in the writting of Portal. Why sacrafice more hours of great funny single player action just to put co-op in.

Not everyone plays online, most people only play with their friends in co-op games. What about situations like mine when there friends get it for another console or what about if your friends havent got it yet. Your basicaly paying for half the game.

Left 4 Dead says hello....

I played by myself and I thought it was great.

You could always get friends with a pc copy too since ps3 and pc can cross-play through steam.

Never played L4D, heard great things tho.

SP was a good length though don't you think? Making it any longer would have dragged it on too long I think.

Another console? They got the wrong system them =p. Haven't got it yet? It came out 3 months ago! No excuse not to have gotten it yet!

Were all in Uni, some don't have jobs...we live off Super Noodles and crumbs, even though it came out three months ago we still have other things to think about. Not everyone can buy it day one.

and to be honest, I don't think it would of dragged on. Most of the gameplay consists of tests chambers, the story is just the filler which is the bit that humors us along the way. I like to think that if they allowed Chell to talk in some bits (especialy the bits when your carry Potato GLaDOS around) then there could be some hilarious dialouge between the two.

Playing PJ Shooter 2 local co-op right now and it's a blast. A few "screaming at the TV" moments had us laughing. Good times.

1 game rules a whole year? I think not

Read the article, they talk about way more than just 1 game.
