GB: "At this years E3, Microsoft shocked a few people by announcing Minecraft for the Xbox 360 for this winter. Not only that, Minecraft will support Kinect and promises to bring the great experience that players faced while playing the PC version."
My guess is that it's a timed exclusive and we will see it on PS3 next year.
I hope it comes out cross platform. Minecraft on PSV... I think a certain Lonely Planet song is appropriate for that situation.
It is a timed exclusive and will come out on both PS3 & PSV. The Minecraft guys have done exclusives deals before when they released Minecraft on the Sony Xperia Play first and than it was to be released on other platforms.
It'd make sense for it to only be timed exclusive. Plus Microsoft have a habit of saying exclusive when in fact they mean timed exclusive. I don't see Notch being that stupid to limit profits for an extremely well selling game.
***Plus Microsoft have a habit of saying exclusive when in fact they mean timed exclusive.*** Yes they do, but it IS exclusive at the time of release unless you consider PC, then practically all console manufacturers are guilty!
"Yes they do, but it IS exclusive at the time of release" Well... yeah, because that's the definition of a timed exclusive... "unless you consider PC, then practically all console manufacturers are guilty!" And come again?
As a PC owner of Minecraft, I was a bit saddened by the announcement of Minecraft for 360, not because I don't want other gamers to play it (share the love!), but because I wonder how well my initial purchase of the beta will be supported now that Notch is working on releasing Minecraft on other consoles.
dedicatedtogamers: I think I read somewhere that Notch had hired another guy to do the lions share of the 360 version, not certain though. I do share your sentiments, however.
...has been done. So it's definitely a possibility to see this coming to PS3 and even PS Vita.
Dang straight, I was like "oh, minecraft on xbox360, thats nice." Then I started thinking..wait..."I got a ps3 and I rather use a keyboard and mouse for a game like mine craft" So I'll just get it on ps3, unless there is a free version on xbox, i'll get both. Also I wanna try the Ps move with minecraft! The more precision the better. oh,p.s. anyone who cant get into minecraft, Im actually curious how they would feel about survival with no electricity and being out on the 'lamb'. "I just cant get into surviving making my own stuff :( " LOL xD Agree of Disagree if you Agree :D
Well sir I'm going to disagree with you to agree then. Agree or Disagree if you agree with me :D
Id rather play lbp 2 than this sorry but people learn new stuff every day on lbp and has even made it 3d now as in walk round in first person mode and when the move patch is added we will see some crazy stuff.
How the hell does LBP have anything to do with this at all? Minecraft is not a "create you own game" thing like LPB at all.
In both minecraft and LBP you can create stuff. You can also share your creations and play soooo they are very similar. LBP 1 and 2 pwns minecraft though.
@king You dont "create" in the same was as LBP though also Minecraft is about exploring as well and with the new 1.8 update around the end of August or sometime in September Minecraft will finally be getting Towns, Dungeons, NPC's and ect and turn into an open world adventure game :)
So I guess Mario Kart and GT5 are basically the same game then as you drive around in both? I play LBP and Minecraft - they both require imagination, but they are vastly different games - and both excellent.
Little Big Planet is a small fry compared to the popularity of Minecraft.
Not a popularity contest.
You do realize Minecraft is on another level than LBp? http://www.youtube.com/watc... - http://www.youtube.com/watc... This is a true unlimited game! It's not about what comes on the disk it's what you can make.. It's a truly unlimited world that can go on forever! This is hardcore legos! And I rather use a mouse than moving my arms all day.. Do to memory I might not be as large on consoles..
The game does tend to use over a GB of RAM on PC but it is made in Java which causes some overheads. The console version should be able to fit into 512MB fairly easily, the whole game is being reprogrammed for optimal performance (the original isn't very efficiently programmed/structured for a start, regardless of it's reliance on Java). Any chunks beyond your draw distance will probably be cleared from RAM and reloaded from the HDD if needed again (on the 360). The PC version only does that if it is starting to use too much RAM. The PS3 only has 256MB of RAM (and another 256MB of video memory), so I am not sure what the plan is there...
Bozebo: Java doesn't really cause any overheads, the only difference is that the game is slightly slower than in C++ (Though it definitely doesn't take any more RAM memory). Most of the stuff you mentioned is in fact graphics, and graphics is what takes most of the RAM memory in a game like minecraft. Since the RSX in PS3 has access to the full 512MB pool, I don't see this being much of an issue.
Minecraft has a lot more flexibility in terms of world size and scale. But LBP2 crushes it in what can actually be pulled off, due to a much MUCH larger toolset. Apples and oranges. They aren't competitors. @sjaakiejj: Java programming puts an emphasis on design structure and re-use via an object oriented approach, at the cost of efficiency. It's far from an ideal language for game development. It works for Minecraft because, by its very philosophy, it's a very simple game. There's a reason why most games are coded in C. I used to code in Java, and it's clunky as hell for anything graphics-related beyond 2D desktop app UIs. And on top of that, Minecraft *is* a notoriously sloppily coded game.
Building is done with blocks. LBP2 has a lot more tools. And although creations are done on 3 layers and no an open space like Minecraft, really amazing creations have been made. You should spend some time away from your 'beastly rig' once in a while and check things out :P
I'm still trying to find a connection between LBP and Minecraft.
Exactly. It's just like comparing Minecraft and Terraria, except LBP has logic components.
a game made by one guy is better than a corporate backed game like LittleBigPlanet Hail Indie Developers!
in your opinion...i tried minecraft and i really don't get the appeal i was bored within 10 minutes..
said the same thing when I played lbp 2, if I want to play a fps ill just play a damn fps rather than the tech demos lbp offers :)
That's because you played for 10 minutes. Takes ages to get into, and you need to read up crafting recipes etc.
anyone who is saying that minecraft OR LBP is not a good game should just shut the hell up. We`ve played SO many hours of minecraft (me and my 5 buddys) and our world (server) is just amazing. We don`t have crazy thing like you see on youtube, but it`s still crazy!!! LBP is my favorite 4 player platformer... 4 player!!!! it`s the NSMBwii for PS3, just awesome. both game I played probably WELL over 100 hours and I`m still enjoying them a lot.
I would say it is better than LBP, but thats because I didn't much like LBP - not sure why, I just didn't.
future ps3 version confirmed.
Yes....a picture of a sheep really does represent the sony demographic. ;D I kid I kid.
ROFL! Coming from a PS3/PC fan, that was a classy jab. Bubs up!
^ You mad brony? trollface.jpg
Probably will come out on both the PS3 and the Vita. Imagine starting on something on the PS3 then transferring it to the Vita so you can finish it while your away from your console.
That would be awesome. Im pretty sure LBP2 and LBP Vita will have the same functionality. The same sort of functionalityhas already been available in the form of PS Minis.
IGN should be the source of this story, not Gamingbolt, all they did was copy and paste. Pathetic.
A Story within a Story Sometimes a site does an interview with an industry professional where newsworthy information is revealed deep inside the interview. Other websites often create separate news stories focusing on specific bits of information that are of special interest to their readers. Even if the original interview is already posted it is ok to also post these side stories if the original post did not focus on this newsworthy information. More at: http://n4g.com/site/newsgui...
Correct me if I´m wrong but isn´t minecraft (to a large extent) about creating your own worlds (or something) and then share them with other people? If so, how will it work when microsoft doesnt allow users to share their content?
It's a different team making the 360 version, and it's not a direct port from the PC - they have said there will be differences. I assume players will be able to meet up in a lobby of sorts, and enter a single world instance to create together. And I also assume players will be able to drop in to each other's worlds (like in Crackdown etc) and play together.
Yes, that is how it works. But the developers have to re-program the entire game in C# (or C++) because it is originally in Java :O So that is where most of the differences come from.
Only on xbox 360* *at least for a while.
I love it when they think pc and xbox equals xbox exclusive. Also nice brostang avatar.
I'm content playing Minecraft on my PC. I have my doubts about the support, updates and future content on the Xbox version for a number of reasons. I'm sure it will all get there, but I have a feeling it will lag behind the PC version. Also the PC version is cheaper. Probably WAY cheaper. I'm actually more interested in Minecraft Mobile, though not so much in the Xperia Play.
"I have been bribed by MS not to reply to this question, so here’s a picture of a sheep instead:" Fixed
Any PC can run Minecraft and the PC one will always be the best. So I dont really see the point of playing it on consoles.
Good point lol, everybody has a laptop or desktop with even the most basic graphics chip and can run it without problems.
I was a little disappointed that Minecraft was announced only for 360. This is such a great game that I think everyone should be able to play it. I also think the game would be a great fit on the PS3 due to Sony's more open PSN approach.
It's being ported to 360 literally down the road from me.
lol who even gives a fuck,.. You can run it on a shitty old laptop,.. With probably 1000 times better and faster controls,.. hell it is clunky enough to escape form boomers with lightning fast mouse controls,.. Most people I know have already moved on,.. Minecraft,.. If you cannot run that on your pc,..(unless you are writing here from PS3 browser or some phone) something is seriously wrong...
Maybe there's a hidden message inside the sheep?!?!
I have been instructed not to reply to this question, so here’s a picture of a sheep instead So we should have it on PS3 by next summer then.
I like the sheep picture btw. lol!
I fail to understand why people even like minecraft.
The sheep is the epitome of awesome, by the way. Up there with David Jaffe's Iron Maiden picture :)
Even though i'm an Xbox fanboy i think PS3 users should get it too. EVERYONE should be able to play Minecraft. It's just that awesome.
Its coming to PS3, they got it for the Sony Xperia phone. So most likely it is going to be for PS3 and maybe PSVita (Maybe that might hit when).
I own it on the PC and love it, but I would totally pick it up on the PS3 as well if it comes there. I have a 360, but the system is too closed for a game like Minecraft, that thrives on plugins and mods. Sony has allowed mod content in the past, so I would expect they would probably do it again with a game like this. MS won't even allow Valve to release free DLC on the 360 that's free on the PC, so I can only imagine what Minecraft will be like on the 360 compared to the PC version.
They could do a lot more with this game on BluRay, the 360 wont do it justice
The game is being streamed on a server...
F*** GAMINGBOLT! Once again they write a "story" that is just a summarization and poaching of someone else's content. Just link to the IGN article they are pulling this from! Why does N4G allow this garbage? I mean really, the Gamingbolt guy added NOTHING to the topic beyond some milquetoast token hot-air to make it less plagiaristic. I'm going to start posting "stories" that are just based on links to Gamingbolt's "stories" that are just links to someone else's work. It wouldn't be any more ridiculous. I'm sick and tired of these parasitic bush-league scrubs. They're leeching site traffic without doing any actual work of their own...traffic that should be going to the actual author's site (in this case, IGN).
How about you finish the pc version. I realize that it's big right now but in reality it's so undone it's not even funny. Without mods it's not even a game, I can't find really anything to do in it and I close out of it almost instantly. Mojang needs to work on the actual aspects of the game that will make it last. Not just a lot of small updates.
Well, he has a sense of humour. Too bad about the sheep-drawing skills.
