Don’t expect to see Pokemon games on smartphones, says Nintendo

The Pokemon Company is soon to release an app for iPhone and Android platforms titled Pokemon Say Tap? BW. The app isn’t related to any of the popular Pokemon games published by Nintendo – it’s rather a promotional spin-off card-based rhythm game.

The story is too old to be commented.

Its already on them un-officially, emulators and game-files.

Emulators of "Nintendo" platforms.

I'm not really in to pokemon so I wouldn't know for sure, but I've only seen pokemon games on nintendo consoles, does nintendo own the rights to pokemon...or what?
edit- "All Pokémon video game content will continue to appear exclusively on Nintendo platforms." see this is what I'm questioning does nintendo own the rights to pokemon?

They own a big chunk of pokemon.

"Pokémon is a media franchise published and owned by the video game company Nintendo."

It kinda sucks that it is owned by Nintendo, I always wanted to see a true HD pokemon game on PS3 or 360 with voice support so you can give your pokemon voice commands.

The pokemon games on Nintendo DS and other nintendo portables are good but they are milked way too much and pretty much the same with every new game except with new pokemon but same graphics, gameplay etc.

I would say the same, but all the 3D Pokemon games lacked severely in content. Pokemon Colosseum, for example, was a great game but had a short story line, only a few places to go to, and I believe had a lot of Pokemon cut out. Although it had solid game mechanics (unlike the following 3D Pokemon game, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, which sucked), I would much rather have the classic 2D Pokemon because the development time allows for much more content to be added.

Nintendo is...

Takoulya2325d ago

Explains in the article; it's just a promotional app.

I know, but the fact thats its on Android and IOS means that Nintendo isn't completely ignoring the smart phone scenario.

Also remember when Iwata said he doesn't see Nintendo releasing free software? Seems like its just a matter of time.
