Video games review scandal: Metacritic uncovers, drops crooked publication

Metacritic has told CVG that it has been forced to remove a games publication from its review listings after uncovering "corrupt practices".

Since the incident, the market-leading aggregation site has continued to police the games media via a strict set of guidelines - partly due its belief that some reviewers can "absolutely be bought".

Beat me to it :)

I've always wondered why IGN has a spot on the 360 dashboard

This is no scandal because for it to be a scandal these sites would have to hire journalist which as far as I can tell none of them do. Journalist are trained in their trade. These sites hire C.I.S. and English majors who have no journalistic integrity. They are community managers not reporters.

Lol so true. Don't forget the biggest gaming innovation in 2009 was MW2 death perks! IGN is such BS, not to mention the apparent 10/10 in graphics IGN gave MW2.

Well now IGN has a Microsoft PR person writing reviews (child of Eden), they've completely thrown their integrity out the window if they had some before.

@EYEamNUMBER1

His proof of IGN rating PS3 exclusives higher is bogus. It's only based on 15 cherry picked games, if you throw everything into the mix they're about even, even slightly pro 360.

Check this out; much more in depth. The math doesn't lie, you can even check it if you like.

Are they planning on naming sites? Or is someone clever enough to find out who is missing now?

BeardedGamerShow1838d ago

Where there is journalism, there will be ethical dilemmas and those who stand on both sides of them.
