Battlefield 3 release on Steam uncertain

There has been a lot of doubt whether EA would release Battlefield 3 on Steam. Today EA revealed a list of digital retailers around the world where gamers will be able to purchase Battlefield 3, and the big omission was Steam. This adds to the uncertainty of whether we’ll ever see Battlefield 3 on Steam, which is by far the biggest and most popular digital games distributor in the world.

The story is too old to be commented.

Would be a bad move but wouldn't effect PC sales too much.

How so? I can see that BF3 will be a success on the PC, but nowadays, Steam is the place to go. If the game isn't available on its service, I can't see "Steam-exclusive gamers" going out of their way to purchase the game.

If BF3 end s up only on orgin I am buying day1.. I am not missing out on the best shooter for steam..

I can! They might not use Origin for other games but if you have the rig I think you will at least have that one game on origin..

Or you could play all the console ports in your steam library & miss out on a true pc game!

Yeah I hop it comes to steam but if it doesn't I am not gonna start a petition I will just buy were it is!

I am a PC gamer and honestly I will just go download the game at EA Store, not a biggie. Howver I would like to have the steam interface etc..

I really like steam as a service, but that doesn't change the fact that my PC would never run battlefield 3 anyway.

Trunkz Jr2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

People like steam cause its convenient, not having BF3 on steam is not convenient for many, I'm sure ppl will still buy, but there will be # of people that will refuse to purcahse it if it's not on steam.

Rearden2600d ago

Steam is the biggest digital distribution system in the world. You can bet your ass that it'll affect PC game sales of BF3 if it's not on Steam.

Bolts2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

There's no way in hell I'm signing up for Origins just for BF3. I'm buying this from D2D.

Solidus187-SCMilk2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

It would be a DUMB move by EA to keep it off steam.

for one, alot of people use steam mostly to DL games

but mainly I think that they are stupid because every one of VALVE's customers have steam, and VALVE's customers ALL LOVE FPS!!!!!

Valve is giving other companies easy access to its customers. steam has grown far beyond just valves customers now, but all of VALVE's customers are huge FPS players and potential customers for battlefeild.

If they make everyone use origin then it can only hurt their sales.

egidem2600d ago

EA needs to scrap its Origin crap and rethink the whole thing over if they want to compete with Steam.

just_looken2599d ago

EA/UBISOFT DRM MUST GO DON'T BUY BF3 FIGHT AGAINST THE DRM THAT'S WHY NO STEAM BF3 WILL HAVE DRM.

lelo2play2598d ago (Edited 2598d ago )

I've had problems with steam... so frankly i wasn't even thinking on buying it on steam. I'll only buy steam games in a last case scenario.

I'll probably try EA's Origin platform, buy it on Direct2Drive or retail.

If it turns out that digital distribution won't be on Steam, I will refuse to purchase the game, especially if I am made to use EA's online store.

The game will make Steam, but it won't get there without any hurdles in the way. This is only the first.

OhReginald2600d ago

then dont buy it. Millions of others will though.

MRHARDON2600d ago

Your assuming millions of people will buy the PC version?

just wondering...

RedDead2600d ago

BC2 was in the millions on Pc

iNcRiMiNaTi2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

The franchise started on PC and this is a direct sequel to the last PC version since bad company was meant to be a console spinoff. This is a game alot of PC gamers asked for and why PC is the lead platform. So I don't see why it won't be in the millions, especially now when there are more players

evrfighter2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

bf2 was 1.5 million in the first month...

I will buy bf3 but it looks like I'm gettin it retail. That's my own rule I made before this announcement. If I don't buy on steam I buy boxed.

Doesn't really matter to me if they force me to install origin. At least this way its not a DD purchase for them to circle jerk to.

thebudgetgamer2600d ago (Edited 2600d ago )

why is the ea service so bad?

Bolts2600d ago

Check out thier prices. These guys are nothing more than a console storefront on the PC. You will never be able to buy Bad Company 2 for $5 from them. They are there to gouge.

DeadlyFire2600d ago

No different from any other Publisher. They sell the game for what makes them a profit. DLC as well. Very few care about giving consumers deals. EA can change though. They are liking Free to play models and setting up a few of their own in place for some of their games and they are profitable. EA giving free games away I would never of expected.

Trunkz Jr2599d ago

Cause Steam sells all of BC2, Spec, Vietnam for $9.99 while EA will never do that? Cause steam contains everyones games and it's not convenient to be using another service just for games...

OhReginald2600d ago

origin exclusive obviously.

Chnswdchldrn2600d ago

their loss if they want to deny their fans the convenience of such a thing

Megaton2600d ago

They need Steam more than Steam needs them.
