Eurogamer writes: Excited as we are about the new beta, it's safe to say that from a basic technological level, the core rendering elements we see here aren't that far removed from what we saw in Uncharted 2.
Naughty Dog have done wonders optimising this engine! Major props to them! Can't wait until the holiday season.
Still no infamous 2 analysis???
I hate to say this but the graphics of Uncharted 2's multiplayer look better than Uncharted 3's MP imo I think it's the lack of anti-aliasing in U3's MP that's the biggest difference between the two. You can notice the jaggies on the lobby screen, around the character models.. as well as in-game, pretty horrible to be honest. Apart from the jaggies.. everything else is fine, so maybe graphics are better than U2 then, I don't know. Singleplayer story is going to look 1000x better than the MP, of course.. but I really hope Naughty Dog can improve the graphics in terms of anti-aliasing for the MP component before the game's release later this year.
Well after looking at a comparison what I see is that the character models, animation, and level designs are all better in uc3 than in uc2. The thing that makes uc3 look bad is the textures on the characters clothes. http://www.gamepur.com/news...
I dont know if i am the only one, but after hours of playing you stop looking at the jaggies and the graphics go to second priority.
. It seems a lot of changes where made to accommodate the move to 3D. This might explain a lot of the technical differences that everyone is experiencing. It is still 4 months away from launch day so there is still is time to optimize the performance. I'm not a big 3D fan. It looks fantastic and when you see it in action really makes everything pop on screen but I just think we are a few years and a least another console cycle away from it running anywhere near optimized. It's too bad that Sony is forcing ND, a Sony R&D company to implement this corporate strategy. It had a negative effect on KZ 3 as well and for what??? 3D might not even last and at this point is a gimmick. Very few people are buying 3D tv's let alone WANT to sit there for hours wearing glasses and developing eye problems...just read the disclaimer posted by Sony and Nintendo if you want the heads up. btw...why is the co-op so off. I know it requires a lot of resources but it seems like such a drastic departure. Many devs are constantly talking about how they had to make HUGE sacrifices to the game to adopt these types of game play elements but it seems excessive...maybe the 3d is to blame. I know Gears, Halo and few others are offering 4 player, story based co-op without such a drastic drop off??? Maybe this is why Naughty Dog has said it's time for a new engine built around these new features.
I was suprised that they were able to keep the exact same graphics for 2 screen as it is for 1 screen. Most of the time games have worse graphics in 2 player but this game is not the case. I would have liked better AA for 1 player but it still looks better than every 360 game. Maybe story mode will have different AA. The physics are also very good for UC3 and is amazing that they were able to get the moving plane, cars, graphics, and physics going on at the same time with a steady framerate. Gears 3 has almost just as good graphics as UC2 but they dont have nearly as much physics going on or game characters climbing, jumping, etc...
Can't wait for this game, GOTY for sure. Naughty Dog ups their game again...
I dont know why people are saying U2 looks better than U3 beta, you guys are nuts. There are jaggies in every game plus if you really think that you didnt calibrate your tv or the gamma on the beta. UC2 looked great but wasnt close to perfect. U3 beta looks ahead of its time and its not even the final build. All they really need to do is up the AA and get rid of the unnecessary 2d textures and it will look flawless. The physics are also way better i just wish the game was a little faster. BTW the MP and SP gfx have always been the same so wtf games are some of you playing?
For those saying Uncharted 3 looks inferior to Uncharted 2: You people are out of your rabbid minds. This game looks phenomenal, and if you take the time to actually observe the in game visuals, you will notice that there is indeed graphical improvments that have been implemented. Dynamic Lighting/Dynamic Shadows, Character detail, highly refined player animations, more detailed environments etc. To not acknowledge these improvements is to be one of two things: willfully blind, or just plain batshit blind. Aliasing does not appear to be a major issue in this game at all, and the analysis is quick to point out that long edges have been covered well with the custom AA process Naughty Dog is currently utlizating. The only probelm thus far is with the inconsistency of covering smaller more noticiable edges. Overall, the AA in the beta is great, it is the smaller areas which have not received coverage that are standing out to people and obscuring general perception. Seriously, take a look at the maps and characters through the provided cinema. Pan around, pay attention to the miniscule details, this is a rather significant step above anything we ever saw in Uncharted 2 MP, and quite frankly I am getting frustrated with the lack of recognition and praise Naughty Dog is currently receiveing for their efforts. As for 3D - the implementation of 3D has absolutely no effect whatsoever on the standard 2D format of the game. Both formats are entirely unique to one another, both in technical composition and in function, as well as in development. Naughty Dog devs have stated this on other forums on various occasions. 3D IS NOT AND WILL NOT AFFECT 2D FORMAT.
Regarding the minor aliasing issues in the beta, I should note that while Naughty Dog devs are currently using a custom form of AA, there is good supporting evidence suggesting that the final build will be using FXXA3 console, a much more consistent and efficient AA solution. FXXA3 can be tweaked to produce and acheive results that are on par with Sony's MLAA.
Lol oh wow, they really lower the graphics for 3D.
