The state of role of exclusive titles in the "console war" is called into question.
Exclusives are important to me. Not just Exclusive Games, but Features as well. If everything is multiplat then it really makes no sense to have two HD consoles.
Interesting article, but I don't think the portion about sales was very thought out. So much more goes into selling a game then just quality. Take a look at Alan Wake. Honestly, if there was a game on 360 that I would want on the PS3 its that one, but the game sold like shit. Does that make it a bad game? No not at all. There's also the fact that they used Metacritic to judge if a game was 'good' or not. metacritic is a decent source, but some of the scores on there are outright ridiculous. I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks this. Uncharted 2 Heavy Rain Infamous 2 Resistance Those are a few of the best PS3 games, in my opinion, but because they don't have great Metacritic scores or sales they arent considered good? Left 4 Dead Alan Wake Tales of Vesparia Lost Odyssey Again, while I'm not sure how many units L4D sold, the others did't sale that great but are all fantastic games. anyways, this article needs a lot of work because as it stands its not a very good representation of any of the consoles in my opinion.
not every game needs to be an exclusive. We could go so far as to say that exclusives can also be a strike against a platform. There have been many different gaming platforms released over the years and the ones that failed are the ones who did not take multiplatform seriously. Granted there is the gamecom and jaguar and 3do just to name a few. Each of those platforms was mostly exclusive titles. If viewed from another perspective, each of those platforms exclusives were not wanted on any other platform (kasumi ninja...) so rather than try and extend the hand to third parties (for the most part) they coveted whatever games they did get and proclaim them as exclusive titles. Tempest 2000 and AvP (for the time) were exclusive to the jaguar and good games. Yet we also had (kasumi ninja already mentioned) Checkered flag and club drive which were proudly displayed as exclusive games that flat out sucked.
I agree with you Misterhbk, but I don't think Uncharted 2 belongs in your list of "lower" (yet still quite high) rated PS3 exclusives.
I used MetaCritic because it is the only base-line avenue we have (GameRankings is the same idea, and scores pretty much fell in line) Anything else would be cherry-picking for a favorites and stuff. Never did I say these were the "best" games of the system. I simply took the top 30 exclusive games that's it. Nothing else. As for your second list, only some of them are exclusives, and still misses the point. As I said before, if you can come up with a better and more objective system to pick the games, share it and I'll have no problem using it.
I'd prefer not to get 3 consoles plus a gaming pc every generation, mostly because I can't afford that. If everything was exclusive there would be a lot of multiplatform games us one console owners would be missing out on.
Now this should get approved. Last time this article was around it included a rediculous flamebait title. He changed it on the site and now it should be good, there are a lot of good details in the writing.
Limbo is no longer rumored... http://www.vg247.com/2011/0...
Yeah! GAH! Have to re-do part of the article to account for this now. But thanks.
i think that's north of missouri.
i am not even reading this dribble. Exclusives rule
Yet you took the time to enter the article just to point out you aren't going to read it. I can see you where a real winner in the gene pool.
yeah to warn off other people who are expecting something.
The only people who say exclusives don't matter are people who latch onto a console that just isn't getting them.
If you looked at the sales of infamous 2 you'd also wonder just how important exclusives are to the gamers
What's this about sales? I'm sure more people who have played Demon's Souls felt more enjoyment than people who played Gears, Forza or Halo. That game is just on a completely different level entirely. Did you ever think that Infamous just might not be a 10/10 game? I'd give it an 8 judging by the demo. A lot of people have problems with the game. Minor gripes but problems nonetheless. When Infamous came out, it was a new IP and some of those new problems weren't present.
This is plain and simple, the majority of games that sell are multi-platform games.if the industry depended on exclusives alone, then industry wouldn,t look so hot.unless the exclusives are halo, gears of war or mario, then this is a mute subject.at the end of the day these developers want to get paid.this whole how many exclusives argument is old.here's a simle question, what games are the top sellers this generation? ;)
oh no....let me keep this as simple as possible though i always seem to fail Gamers like more games right? Gamers like more choice right? thats what exclusives equal so you get more games on top of the multiplatform games people now swear by. Whats the harm in that huh...nobody says you have to like or buy every one of them or like any of them at all but having more choice should never be downplayed as badly as it has been. An angle some people never look at is the angle of a former single console owner that buys a 360/ps3 to complete the set. Now its normal for those people to continue buying their multiplatform games for their first console for trophies/achievements, friends on xbl/psn community, pad preference whatever. This means that the main reason for owning a second console is its exclusives. Not many people would buy a multiplatform game for the sake of a 5% performance improvement for their newer/2nd/3rd console but they would purchase the games that cant be played elsewhere IF they liked them. Im in that situation. My 360 will be ready for gears for sure but the whole year has been quiet. Apparently this point of view makes me a 'troll' Ef that crap i want something to justify me having the console and paying for live though i must admit sky player is the sh!t though, that gets used daily but apart from gears and a couple xbl games its not being GAMED on. The day i picked up my 360 i purchased gears 1 and 2, I then got Alan Wake and Halo Reach as soon as they were released. There is a solid back catalog and ive admittedly missed a few because i'd not fancied them like crackdown and forza but other than those and the chunk of jrp's its been slim picking. Ill still go back to some of the lesser known games people recommend but they would have to be single player games as jumping into old multiplayer games just isnt my thing. Why is it such a bad thing to laud exclusives...Its almost like its become a dirty work or taboo subject.. Just look at some of the responses to people who like and want more exclusives get.... Isnt celebrating exclusives better than celebrating sales??? I get nothing from those...99% of the members here dont either. Quality is another factor but we've all witnessed what exclusives can do in pushing consoles. How many of the GOTY's have been exclusive...the quality argument is just another downplay and some will come with their slick speeches saying how they're content and thats good for but I AM DIFFERENT...i want more games year on year NOT less because i have the means and the time to support my habit/hobby/addiction Another argument against is what these exclusives sell... What has happened to us when we care more about 'their' bottom line over 'our' experiences. Newleaf downplaying infamous 2 ¬_¬ drsnobb using what games sell the most as his angle...put down the calculators dudes and pick your pads back up. Sony/MS/Nintendo dont care about us like that. Gives us/me more games...Its why Im in this
I respect your opinion and all,but could you answer the question i put forth in my comment please sir :)
Please look it up my good sir but it'll probably be call of booty. Now you answer what has been your top 5 experiences this gen and im sure it'll be a mixed bag and what did the numbers they sold alter your enjoyment... . Please answer with pad in hand NOT calculator...thank you;)
