A twitter post by Sebastian Lagarde shows Unreal integrating FXAA. Could this mean an even better looking product then previously expected?
Doubt it. But it would be a firestorm here on N4G if it did.
Are there comparison pictures between leaked built and latest build or something .... because leaked built is lookin like Gears of War 1 ... I read somewhere that latest build is 99% better over leaked built.
No, we won't receive final build until critics/Digital Foundry/pixel counters receive their copies. The leaked build is certainly not the final build.
Leaked build looks nothing like Gears of War or even Gears of War 2. Don't know what the hell you're talking about!
Deadpool, if it looks like Gears 1 then that's not saying a lot about the current sequel coming out for a certain other 3rd person shooter. http://www.gamespot.com/for...
@deadpoole "Are there comparison pictures between leaked built and latest build or something .... because leaked built is lookin like Gears of War 1" How does it taste to be constantly talking out of your ass? I played the beta and it looked phenomenal. 10X better than the previous games. I'm sure UC3 will look awesome when it comes out too(the beta looks like sh!t imo). Why must you guys always compare the two? I will enjoy them both.
http://www.lensoftruth.com/... Check that poll out. Thousands of votes saying Uncharted 3 beta looks better. btw, Gears 3 was finished by April, but they decided to "delay for business reason". Meaning you are looking at a finished product here. they are just fine tuning it. on the other hand, uncharted 3 is still in full development.
Gears 2 didn't even use 2xAA on 1/100 of its surfaces. "Partial" 2xAA is practically an exaggeration.
Certainly wouldn't be a pretty sight if it did. The reason it seems possible to me is that I can't think of any other project Epic is working on atm. Certainly prepping their engine for next-gen, but I'm talking about games.
The graphics jump from Gears 1 to Gear 3 is great!!! Didn't know they can keep pushing the limits and each time delivering much better graphics then the last.
FXAA is nvidia tech why does it cause firestorm in N4G?
Why FXAA or MLAA is already used on the 360. Custome Quest from double fine already used a form of MLAA on the 360.
Ok, everybody, stop fighting over stupid shit, both games look fine. Yet both games are starting to show their age. Leave it at that. I just personally dont like Gears online. I dont like how it plays at all! i think it is way to stiff! I feel like im driving a Mac truck when im playing Gears. And
I hope it uses it because the game looked so jaggy in the beta. Dont say I was not in the beta because I was a VIP beta tester. @Septic I am not trolling because I am not only going to Gears articles and only giving hate. @maniacmayhem I use a 1080p 60hz 32inch samasung tv thank you very much. I also was owning with over a 2.00 k/d in EVERY game mode. Also 42 inch in 720p is not good since that is a low pixel count for the size. You would want a 1080p but gears does not support that high anyways. @PS3bestEVER Gears 3 is not lame @everyone This is how awesome gears AA is http://i1095.photobucket.co...
You should switch from your 19 inch black and white tv to a modern 42 inch flatscreen because i was in the beta also and i saw no jaggys. Of course i was too busy have fun and owning all.
I probably merced you out in a few matches. You probably remember me standing over your dead body beating you with your own severed arm. ;)
isn't FXAA a Nvidia exclusive anti-aliasing? How are they going to implement it on a Radeon?
Just what I thought. It's Nvidia tech. Edit: Judging from some comments, seem other 360 games have/will use it, so I guess it isn't purely Nvidia.
No the engineer is works at nvidia never heard of opengl or directX an abstract layer that talks with the gpu. instead of the people that do it.
probably digital foundries said the e3 demo implemented some form of anti-aliasing and I heard fxaa was pretty fast on 360 .343 studios is using it in halo 4 don't know about the Halo ce remake though). dice is also using FXAA for the 360 version of battlefield 3. FXAA was implemented in star wars force unleashed 2 I think.
That was DLAA. Directionally Localized Anti-Aliasing. for people interested there will be a 3 hour talk or so on post processing AA the family of tech all those XXAA belong too. xx can be replaced with ml,dl,fx etc.
I don't know about Gears 3 using it(looks good with what they're already using), but it would be cool to have it as an option for developers. FXAA3 is a godsend, just ask developers. Played Fear 3 with this on and looks fantastic, albeit a bit dark. (PC of course)
FXAA is rubbish on FEAR 3. It blurs the image and generally looks crappier than decent MSAA. MSAA is better as usual. Just look at the fence and wires in the shots. FXAA: http://images.eurogamer.net... MSAA: http://images.eurogamer.net... FXAA is good for console but once again MSAA will win if you can do enough of it like on PC. FXAA is a post process like MLAA, its fast, fairly cheap and dirty. It is for 360 too those wondering about the nvidia tech. The reason that it might work in Gears 3 is because 360 doesn't support proper MSAA in the Unreal Engine 3. The UE3 SDK for something like PC now does though with fewer problems. Gears has only ever had a form of custom edge blurring which never really worked that well, the art did a better job of hiding jaggies really. All these post processing methods of AA mainly just exist because they are cheaper to do than proper full on MSAA and easier to implement on Deferred engines on older APIs like DX9. Consoles would benefit, but it matters less to PC because the performance is there to do MSAA.
FXAA in Fear 3 is decent enough. I wasn't comparing it to MSAA whatsoever, just stating the obvious how FXAA is the cheapest way on console, and PC if the need arises.
he say unreal engine not gears of war 3 stupid fanboys
REAL KILLER strikes again. Change you name I see
This is a stupid article, it CAN'T use FXAA. FXAA is ONLY on Nvidia graphics cards. Xbox 360 uses ATi graphics, the PS3 has the highest possibility of using FXAA since the RSX is based off of a nvidia card. FXAA is exclusive to Nvidia graphics. Also, FXAA > MSAA Frame rate increases as well as jaggies are removed without over blurring. What vulcan is saying is false. http://www.evga.com/forums/...
Funny someone disagrees with you..
Make that 6 disagrees (currently) :P.
You are very wrong in your comment Newtype. FXAA has been implemented for console use. There are many sources stating this SDK is also for 360. Google is your friend. Here are some. http://timothylottes.blogsp... here THE nvidia tech programmer working on this technique states the cost of it on......xbox 360. "On Xbox 360 this is 1.3 ms/frame for 1280x720 and is texture bound." http://flyfogame.com/nvidia... "...new techniques that will be named FXAA,FXAA in the future will be developed for Xbox 360 and PS3 via SDK for developer console." FXAA > MSAA for PERFORMANCE COST i.e less MSAA > FXAA for ultimate QUALITY. FXAA is just a post process and thus faster, you can shove it on top of any game, any engine. However just like Quincunx for example it can blur textures, MSAA doesn't. It still suffers some sub pixel problems a la many implementations of MLAA, with the associated artifacting and dreaded blurring. MSAA doesn't. Source: http://www.geeks3d.com/2011... Please note the ads, disads black box a little down. Just as i said, this exists because its cheap, simple and fast. Not because it actually has better quality than MSAA if you have the performance to spare. Like on a PC. Please don't comment without getting your facts correct. Unfortunately all of your statements are provably false.
That's a well-made retort, vulcanproject. At least SOMEONE points out their reasoning for their disagree. bubbles +
So, what's the chance of this being used in Gears of war 3?
Well, since it was added in UE3 last month I think big.Almost certainly.
FXAA or not, Gears of War 3 is without a doubt one of the front-runners for best graphics of 2011. It stole the award from most publications in both 2006 and 2008. Can it do it again in 2011? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I dont think so. FXAA is for PC Master Race.
