Five Ways Nintendo 3DS Will Beat PlayStation Vita (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): Over the past several years, Nintendo managed to defeat Sony and its PSP with the DS, clearly the inferior piece of technology.

Now the big N finds itself in a similar position, as Sony prepares to re-enter the handheld space with PlayStation Vita, which is much more sophisticated than Nintendo's 3DS.

The story is too old to be commented.

mario is the only thing i like there and im not such a huge fan of it to buy a whole console just for mario. So vita for me !

MaxXAttaxX2718d ago (Edited 2718d ago )

but with different names.

Sure, Mario and Pokemon are hard to beat. But at the same time, there's really no competition for those two titles.
Which is where PSVita comes in, offering very different gaming experiences.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Dynasty Warriors, HotShots Golf, Wipeout, Resistance, Ridge Racer, Gravity Daze, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dust 514, ModNation Racers, Mortal Kombat, Super Stardust Delta, Ruin, Rayman Origins, BlazBlue:CSII Plus, StreetFighter X Tekken, BioShock and Hideo Kojima game.

If one of these doesn’t strike your fancy, I’m sure we will be hearing of alot of new titles in the near future.

And the argument of "If I wanted to play PS3 games I'd play them on the PS3" is flawed.

PSV is NOT about playing PS3-like games. It does more than that.
With built-in camera for face recognition, motion sensing, multi-touch screen and pad. These add more depth and gaming that CAN'T be done on the PS3.

LOGICWINS2719d ago (Edited 2719d ago )

So true. When Pokemon 3DS comes out in 1-2 years and the 3DS is under $200..saleswise, Vita won't have a chance.

Heck, qualitywise, there are more people out there who believe that Pokemon is the holy grail of handheld games as opposed to any other handheld franchise. And I'm inclined to agree with them. I'd rather spend my money on a 100+ hour adventure in 3D as opposed to a 10-12 hour game with "PS3-like" graphics.

If I want to play a "PS3-like" game, I'll play the REAL thing..on my PS3.

JoGam2719d ago (Edited 2719d ago )

If I want to play a "PS3-like" game, I'll play the REAL thing..on my PS3.....Thats everyone excuse these days when it comes to Vita but the funny thing is I can say the same about Zelda. If I wanted to play Zelda I could do it on the console.

Edit: Now talking sales and just enjoying gaming are two different things that cant be compared. Im not saying Zelda won't sell a ton on the 3DS cause it will. All Im saying is don't act like playing PS3-like games on the Vita is a bad thing.

Edit: @ Logic, I guess you didnt catch E3 this year and seen the all the games coming for Vita and seen the buzz that came along with it. There was more buzz for Vita than the PSP had when it was announced. Im pretty sure 3DS with Mario and Zelda will sell well but so will Vita.

LOGICWINS2719d ago (Edited 2719d ago )

"All Im saying is don't act like playing PS3-like games on the Vita is a bad thing."

I'm not saying it's a "bad thing". Don't know where that came from. Just saying that it isn't feasible for most people. If your a hardcore gamer and you want Vita, then more power to you..I'm merely making the point that theres NO WAY that Vita can compete with the 3DS on a sales level because the majority of gamers AREN'T hardcore.

"If I want to play a "PS3-like" game, I'll play the REAL thing..on my PS3.....Thats everyone excuse these days when it comes to Vita but the funny thing is I can say the same about Zelda. If I wanted to play Zelda I could do it on the console."

But thats the difference between Sony and Nintendo. Brand loyalty. There are MORE people out there willing to buy portable AND console versions of Zelda/Mario than there are people who are willing to buy portable AND console versions of Killzone/MGS.

^Don't take my word for this. Check the software numbers and you will quickly understand why Nintendo has the luxury of releasing portable AND console versions of games...while achieving commercial success.

DUDE, Killzone 3 sold less than Killzone 2. LBP 2 sold less than LBP 1. If people aren't willing to buy the "better" console versions of these games..what makes you think they will opt for the "inferior" versions of these games????

LOGICWINS2719d ago

"Im pretty sure 3DS with Mario and Zelda will sell well but so will Vita."

Thats not the argument. I'm arguing that Vita will NEVER be able to compete with the 3DS on a sales level. Whether Vita sells "well" is irrelavent to this discussion.

JoGam2719d ago (Edited 2719d ago )

@ Logic, We are talking portable and we are talking NEW portable console that 1. Was the most anticipated thing during Sony's conference and now that the price was revealed and is affordable it WILL sell tons.

Edit: My argument is and was this "Dont act like playing PS3-like games "Graphic" is a thing people don't care about and won't be huge. Re-read your first comment. You make is sound like its a bad thing and base on the disagrees, other people don't agree with you.

LOGICWINS2719d ago (Edited 2719d ago )

"We are talking portable and we are talking NEW portable console that 1. Was the most anticipated thing during Sony's conference and now that the price was revealed and is affordable it WILL sell tons."

????

Okay..once again. No one here is arguing whether Vita will sell "tons"..the argument is how well Vita will sell with respect to the 3DS.

"Re-read your first comment. You make is sound like its a bad thing."

I'm sorry you viewed it that way. That wasn't my intention.

Biggest2719d ago

The PSV doesn't have to compete against the 3DS. The PSP is doing that just fine right now.

LOGICWINS2719d ago

^^With respect to THIS article, Vita IS competing with the 3DS. Thats why I'm speaking of both consoles in a competitive nature.

stephmhishot2719d ago

@LOGICWINS

DUDE, Killzone 3 hasn't been on the shelves as long as Killzone 2! Its already common knowledge that PS3 exclusives tend to have long legs in terms of sales, give K3 the same time period of availability as K2 and sales will at the very least equal out.

MaxXAttaxX2718d ago (Edited 2718d ago )

Motion, face tracking, the multi-touch screen and pad add more depth do handheld gaming which can't be done on the PS3. So yes, it's different.

yeah, i agree with the pokemon game, but the rest meh :L

Spitfire_Riggz2719d ago

"Sony scored a MINOR victory by announcing the Vita at the same price as the 3DS"

Are you kidding me??? You know how many articles were written that had the VITA failing because of a super high price point?? Thats not minor

TBM2719d ago

mario, and zelda is not enough for me to spend my money on with eye hurting effects, and mario is not enough for me to spend 250 just for the system. i traded in my DSi because i just wasnt interested in it anyone.

plus the 3in screen is too small for me. i'll be spending my money on the vita; besides uncharted there are definitely a few games that i have my eyes on.

iforgotmylogin2719d ago

yes yes yes, 3ds will beat vita.

cant wait for all the rpgs to start rolling in

fr0sty2720d ago

Oh yeah, 3DS' sales are definitely indicative of the fact that it's gonna give Vita a hell of a run for it's money. That thing is flying off the shelves! /s

AWBrawler2719d ago

Hmmm I think I want to track you and come back to this post and laugh after christmas

fr0sty2719d ago

Sounds like we did with the PS3 when it launched. "Just wait for Lair."... "Just wait for heavenly sword"... "Just wait for price cut"...

In reality, no one game makes a system. 3DS suffers because it's too similar to the DS, and the casual gamer isn't as amazed by 3D as Nintendo hoped they would be. They just see it as an expensive DS. One that has a 3D screen that you can only see at certain angles. One that makes using the built in motion sensors pretty much useless since you can't see the screen in 3D if you tilt the system away from you in any direction. 3DS has a lot of issues other than just games that hold it back.

I honestly think Nintendo made a big mistake by naming it 3DS, because DS has seen so many revisions that most people think this is just another DS, so they didn't go buy one. In their mind, they already own it.

AWBrawler2719d ago

but the difference is the 3DS is by no means selling bad. they damn near broke 4 mill in their first month. how is that bad. in March mind you.

So I say christmas, because by that time, mega titles that move units will be in abundance. Games like Mario, Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing.
And I believe the Nintendo faithful will pick up Starfox, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario, and Luigi's Mansion

Realistically, How can the 3DS not be a hit this holiday? Animal Crossing alone is a 11 million seller on DS, and don't get me started on Mario Kart!

Tired2720d ago

The title is very misleading! It's full of speculation!
Also it's wrong hehe.

maniacmayhem2719d ago

If the 3Ds can pull off the same wide and diverse games it had with DS then it should give vita a run for its money.

Hicken2719d ago

Only one of those points were valid. And that one- franchise power- may not be enough to bolster it past a technically superior competitor at the same price.

Sure, they can drop the price, but it's not like the system's been selling well enough to justify it, at least not long enough to give it a significant edge.
