With so much of the gaming space moving over to micro-transactions and downloadable content, it's almost a crime to be missing out on all the free games out there to get your frag on in.
I guess one postive came from Spirits Within
I would add APB:R. Now that it's 100% free, it's better than ever.
Quake... I miss the good times with that game!
Team Fortress 2 ftw! I'll be on sniping a spy or two for you :)
I'm surprised to see The Hunter on that list. Not because it doesn't deserve it, but because a pretty hardcore hunting simulation isn't exactly something I would expect to see on a list like this. I've had a subscription for several months (playing for free only gives you access to one area) and it's been worth it for a few virtual nature trips a week. Particularly after the latest two hunting zone additions (the last one was huge) and the black bear and moose. And you will be doing a whole lot more walking, tracking and sneaking than you will shooting, but that's part of what makes it so very different from usual "shooters" (aside from the prey not consisting of aliens or nazis of course :)). And no, I've never hunted in real life, nor do I feel any particular urge to try it. Unless I was hungry and the nearest supermarket was a couple of days away :).
Team Fortress 2 and Alien Swarm are great games. Been playing TF2 since The Orange Box and Alien Swarm was a free gift to gamers by Steam. I'm gonna toss in two games not on the list. 1. Arma II is now free to play so check out this hardcore MilSim 2. Battlefield play 4 Free is an OK game that will get you familiar (somewhat) with the Battlefield series if you have never played BC2 or BF2. BFp4F is mash up of BC2 and BF2 but with simple graphics so everyone can enjoy it. it has some issues with Lag (i suggest bookmarking close servers) but it's free.
I didn't know Arma II was free to play now. I played it when it first came out and I was pretty disappointed, was super buggy at the time!
yeh when Arma II first came out yes it was a Bug monster but the first patch cleared all that up. Arma II has great tech support. So Arma II is now free to play and runs smooth as they toned some things down to work on a wider variety of systems. check it out...it's free.
They should really make Brink F2P. It might just save it from an untimely demise.
