Team Ninja isn't 'nerfing' Ninja Gaiden 3

Team Ninja is creating Ninja Gaiden 3 so that it can be enjoyed by more than the series' hardcore fans, but this doesn't mean the difficulty level has been nerfed, Yosuke Hayashi, producer at Team Ninja, has told Edge magazine.

"Ninja Gaiden fans want a challenge, and we want to offer them a game that is challenging," said Hayashi. "But we also don't want that to be a barrier to people who haven't played these games, who haven't played this franchise."

He added: "It's not about the game being too easy or too hard, it just seems like [new players] have a different skillset. So we want to offer a game to both kinds of players. We're not trying to nerf the game."

Tomonobu Itagaki is crying under his sunglasses.

That...or he's drunk.

Or both.

The only thing they had to do was to get rid of off-screen attacks from the AI.
That wasn't hardcore, it was cheap.

Not really, when the bad guys shoot at you, you can 'hear' the missile/fireball coming - it's always aimed at where you are - so all you need to do is dodge. It's easy.

I like Itagaki's Ninja Gaiden games best - the enemies were specifically placed, it constantly pushed you into using your skills in different ways to overcome each challenge. Like with Demons Souls the game encourages you to think about what you're doing.

As for NG3 , I hope it does turn out to be a good game, I'm not really all that keen on QTE's though.

Demon's Souls was pretty challenging. Hard but not frustrating.

Here lays Nintendo's legacy. They brought the casuals to this gen, and now everything has to be "accessible."

Thanks a lot Nintendo.

now this franhcise will be full of crappy qte battles instead of real combat

lolol "new players have a different skill set"

oh I would like to believe you but from my experience so far, every game that i have been told has not been nerfed and is just being made more " accommodative " well... it's just been nerfed short and simple.

another franchise I have lost total interest in. back in the day when a newbie wanted to play a game you just stuck it on easy. thats what having an easy mode was for.

now every game is turning into a handholding baby fest just to make sure they can enjoy it. What about my enjoyment ?

one of my most loved IP's from last gen, now I have zero interest in it. You cannot feed a child milk for his whole life. let them play it and find it a challenge. if they have balls, they will keep playing till they get good at it. that's how you get good at games after all. If they don't like it, let them play Mario or sonic.

it's like Nintendo has opened Pandora’s box and the gaming I once loved is being killed off by all things being noob friendly. They say "oh there is still something for the hardcore" but everything game that has claimed that just ends up feeling like a big fat !£^£6ktard !!

If the harder difficulties are available from the start then there's nothing to worry about. It will still have Master Ninja mode. And let's face it, a "nerfed" Ninja Gaiden is still going to be better than almost all other action games.

Sad thing is, that's what Asura's wrath is turning out to be, one long drawn out QTE. Thanks Capcom, but I played Dragon's Lair back in the 80s and it sucked. Is it too much to ask to make another Ninja Gaiden as good as NGB? Thank god Kamiya is still making games like Bayonetta and it's inevitable sequel.

Dont like the sound of this at all. The difficulity made Ninja Gaiden what it is (AMAZING) or WAS lol.
