Gaming Irresponsibly takes a look at 5 of the most controversial titles that have been released during the console generation.
Didn't Manhunt piggyback off the controversy of titles like GTA? I know that it was controversial though
I love controversie :D
I can understand no Manhunt as those games are clearly the 5 most controversial. It's a good list. I'm pretty sure GTA did everything Manhunt did except the plastic bag kill. Rapelay OMG! what sick bastard sat around and made this crap up and then what sick bastard said OK let's publish it.
No Fallout? That game was banned in alot of places and just went to the supreme Court!
Most of these have evolved into major titles. Most.
Soldier of Fortune 2 is very violent too. You were able to do nearly anyhing to the the bodies of the enemies. It was so freaky that the human enemies got replaced with robots when it got released in Germany. Blood was oil. They changed the whole concept, pretty sick story.
I remember making some guy's face a crater in that one!
I remember showing my Uncle (when I was around 14) how brutal the combat was in SOF 2. I took the knife and literally severed limbs off dead soldiers. His expression the whole time was "WTF.... you are one PSYCHO KID!". lol
I remember my uncle playing the DC version back in 2001 when I was 16. The game failed to hold my interest as I viewed it as drivel. All he did was kill people then assault their bodies with a knife.
Carmageddon should have been on that list as it was 1 of the first.
i have to add one Bully has to be one of the most controversial games that never deserved that controversy
Wow no manhunt? That game should probably be number 1
Plastic bag murder should trump first-person rape?
Yep- one your alive, one you arent, which would you chose
@forrome I'm sure that depends on the victim.
wasn't Phantasmagoria a heavy game when released.
medal of honor?
I can't add every game in the world lol. ManHunt as number one? No, there's a much more offensive game in that spot. Same with number 2.
They might as well put all H-games in #1. They don't know what they're writing about...
That is a very good list. Mortal Kombat, Hot Coffee and the Rape game. can't beat that.
Thrill Kill for the PSX...
That wasn't the PS1's most controversial game though, a game called scum made thrill kill look like childs play :) It was an FPS where you were a serial killer and to rack up points you had to kill people, you could use a hell of a lot of weapons like nail guns, planks of wood etc all the graphics were digitised people (ALA MK1) you could even kill babies in prams. That game quickly disappeared when it was shown in a playable form.
Where's 'the guy game' ??? Biggest F*CK up ever possible by a company http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Carmageddon and hot coffee mod probably deserve to be on here. Also, am I the only person who actually enjoyed postal 2? Not just as a silly piece of fun but I actually thought it was a great game. It was like a first person grand theft auto and there was a lot of fun to be had in it. Not to mention it's expansion had about a hundred stupid ass weapons AND zombies with dismemberable limbs. Throwing a sledge hammer into a crowd of zombies in an open urban area filled with ridiculous weapons? Yes please. Shame the developers completely failed to realize what made their game stand out and decided to make postal 3 third person. I'm sorry but if I wanna play a sandbox third person game with ridiculous and enjoyable slapstick I'll go for the much more pedigree Saints row or one of the earlier GTA's.
I loved it too, play it every now and again. I loved the fact the game had pretty simple objectives, but let you do what the hell you liked :D And the humour was great. Taking out the Taliban for fun was funny as f*ck
