Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will set you back $49.99

This past E3 Kojima announced the sweet Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 and Xbox 360. The HD Collection includes Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker all in beautiful HD with achievements/trophies and Transfarring (on the PS3 version).

Well now we know how much this must have collection is going to cost: A very affordable $49.99.

That's $10 too high. The MGS series is my favorite of all time but both the GOW and Sly collections were priced right at $40.

GOW collections are only 2 games, and the peacewalker game is more then just a port

I believe those collections were priced at that point because they were published by Sony for the PS3 exclusively. Sony also prices their Move games at 39.99.

MS on the other hand prices Kinect games at 49.99. And this collection is heading to MS's Xbox 360 as well. So I guess Konami is just taking advantage of that.

EDIT: As Nitro said as well, good point, that game is relatively new. But Nitro the Sly collection was 3 games, so they did release a 3 game collection for 39.99.

They released it on GameCube... was it published by Nintendo? It would have been sweet if they would have included an updated version of that game in this collection.

I'm sad to see the first MGS isn't on there. Would gladly pay $10 more to get it as well and another $20 to get MGS4 on Xbox 360. ;)

Either way, I will just wait for the inevitable discount. There are few games I have to have day-1.

Wow...greedy much? I owe every mgs except pw and even bought the essential collection along with subsistence and substance. I was going to get the hd collection, but it's this greed that's turning me off. 50 for an hd and trophy upgrade? I kinda feel like they know people will buy it just because mgs is in the title. Man...this made it harder for me to buy now, especially since mgs1 isn't in the collection.

I'm not buying this game because they're not remastering MGS1 and because it made MGS3 and MGS: Peace Walker go multiplatform. MGS2 was already on the original Xbox.

The Sly Collection is a much better value. It's a must buy now that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is coming in 2012.

It it were released on the PS3 only it might arrive at $40 only like most of the HD previous remasters. But since its multi-platform licensing issues might have jacked up the price.

The only reason I can understand this is because Peace Walker is practically a new game, but if you already played PW, that puts this out of your price range!

I only played half of MGS3 and have all the rest of these in my collection now(recently played too), so this is a no buy for me!

Really wanted to finish MGS3 though; maybe I can find a copy somewhere!

What's the difference between Subsistance and the regular one? I've only played most of the first game (but I refuse to play number 4 until I catch up).

The most noticeable difference is the free 3rd person camera view.

they also had some extra sort of mini game modes.
Like extra arcade type missions.

Subsistance has(vs. snake eater):

- A better player camera position
- An online game mode(now defunct)
- More capture the monkey missions
- The original metal gear games: metal gear 1 and metal gear 2 would be played through an msx emulator.

The inclusion of the original metal gear games is the main reason to get subsistence, otherwise if you are not a fan of the original metal gear games then don't get subsistence.

Main number 1 reason i needed it right now for me was the free camera angles , truthfully on my Backwards Compatible these are some of the games that look great with that upscaling feature... FF12 and Half Life and Leisure Suit Larry look like totally differnt games in HD

- 3rd disc is DVD film with whole MGS3 campain played by devs and directed by kojima. I watched it and it was awasome !

Also 3rd Person Camera is main reason to get this version.

You must be talking about the rare limited special edition of subsistence which has a third disc called "persistence" which I think also included an early preview of metal gear solid 4 on the disc. I have the regular edition of subsistence which only contains 2 discs(I just looked at the back of the game case of my copy of subsistence as of writing this and it only says it contains 2 discs). I think that you are thinking of the rare limited edition of subsistence, because that version contains 3 discs.

WOOT1/??? Thats the version I have then. I didn't know it was rare until you guys just mentioned the three disc thing. The cool part is I got it from GAME about 2 months before mgs4 came out, for the price of £25.99. I'd played 1 & 2 over and over on the ps1/ps2 but missed out on snake eater so wanted to get up to spec with the story. Gona go see how much this 'rare limted edition' might be worth. Actually the 3 disc edition is not so limited. It was the standard Subsistence in Europe.

Because the game was delayed in Europe, Hideo Kojima to make it up with making the limited Subsistence in US into the standard in Europe.

People (me also) were expecting the already common $39.99 price point set by Sony for remastered HD collections.

This could be a good deal for newcomers to the franchise but not for many PS owners. I already played through all these games. Want to revisit them in HD but I'll have to wait till it drops in price.

If you want the ENTIRE story start from the NES versions, then work your way up that way you have the entire story from the very beginning. A big mistake people make is starting from Solid then play the other ones; the NES versions actually tell of what happened up to Solid, then the Solid series go on from there.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the collection comes with a downloadble code for MGS1 from the PSN store. (If you get the PS3 collection obvs.) Don't hold me too it, but I do seem to remember reading that somewhere.

Yeah but collections are usually 40 dollars. Even Tomb Raider Trilogy which was 3 current generation games, a PS3 game(Underworld) and two Xbox 360 ports(Anniversary and Legend), was only 40. Sure Peace Walker will have extra content but that doesn't justify 10 dollars until that content is specified. If it's a lot of extra missions, I'll consider it(I already have all of the games). Otherwise, I'll pick this a few months after release for 30-40 dollars from Amazon.

I actually found the Sly collection on clearance at Target for 15 dollars lol....Its a random area in Target, they put "damaged" games there. Basically the case is just torn or they have to clear a little bit of the back stock.

im kinda getting tired of these HD remakes, but then again maybe its the MGS one that isnt interesting to me. I played the GOW HD remakes and I didnt care for them, but I really dont care for the series at all, kinda like MGS, but RISING looks awesome, and sons of liberty was kinda fun as well as snake eater. Im kinda interested in sly cooper hd remakes and the shadow of the colossus HD remakes, but not the MGS ones.... : / jus my opinion

Well of course you're getting tired of HD remakes when they only release remakes of games you don't like all that much. Personally, I'm a huge MGS and GoW fan for example so the fact that both will see HD releases in the near future (GoW's PSP games were coming to PS3, yes? :S) is just plain awesome for me.
