Nightmare Mode takes a look at Proun, an abstract racing game by Joost van Dongen.
A quick visit to youtube tells me this is a "racing game" for the casual crowd. Nice art style, but I wouldn't spend more than 5 minutes playing this.
Yeah, I agree it's kind of directed toward casual gameplay, but van Dongen says that's because he want it to be fully accessible. But if you ever play it, Supersonic and Speed of Light difficulties make it crazy difficult. I didn't want to put this in the review, but I haven't unlocked the fourth track yet, because I find it too difficult. In other words, it seems it's trying to appeal to both the casual and hardcore audience, and, regrettably, it doesn't do too good of a job in that sense.
Who says casual games are easy? "Casual" is just another way of saying "accessible". Any casual game, pushed to its limits, will be difficult, of course. And just because it's hard, doesn't mean it's for core gamers.
