Whilst it’s true that great games don’t necessarily require great graphics, developers know that the vast majority of consumers demand cutting edge visuals. With aging console hardware to contend with, this puts developers in a tricky situation. Whilst most console games look good in motion, a single static frame has the potential to expose the technical limitations of any game engine, with aliasing, poor textures and low quality shadows being common visual blemishes. Developers, no doubt fearing how the gaming public will react to raw frame captures, have long since developed a solution to this marketing dilemma: enter the bullshot.
