Bright Hub - The first-person shooter genre is firmly set in its ways. Where is the innovation? The same old tired designs and conventions are trundled out for each new title. Isn't it about time we ditched these archaic ideas?
For gamers who are new to a genre, certain conventions (barrels will explode, finding a cache of health / ammo means a boss fight is coming up) create a sense of familiarity and help them get comfortable. I agree completely, however, that some real innovation needs to happen in the FPS genre.
