TheParanoidGamer: "Journey Beta has officially started and here is some all new game play footage of Journey from the Beta. Video game art doesn't get any better then this.
Ooooohhhh...Preeeeettyyyyyy... I'm totally flabbergasted by what I just watched but its so pretty I don't even care...
It's like a moving, interactive masterful panting. It's truly phenomenal. This and The Last Guardian are my 2 most anticipated games right now.
We need more games like this. It's just absolutely breath taking when you start the Beta.
WOW that looks awesome, how do i get in the beta???!!
NVM, Gamespot was giving them away earlier but they are out now
well that sucks
Short game though, hope the pricing is good.
how do you know its short. you dont have it and there are no reviews yet.
He's talking about the Beta itself. It is kind of short, it's more of a demo if you ask me. I Freak'n hope this game has many hours of play time. @Below For a PSN game, that's long enough. Especially since that is about half the gameplay hour of story mode of many games today.
Actually, TGC has talked about Journey's length before and calling it about "2 to 3 hours." http://www.thegamingvault.c...
he did not say beta he said game. anyway i enjoyed the beta there was lots of walking and jumping and sand.
Man, that looks really good. The way the character interacts with the environment is so subtle yet breathtaking.
Even before I was done with flower, I couldn't wait for their next game. I STILL can't wait... too bad I have to, anyway.
WOAH!! What the heck this game looks amazing!
I am absolutely mesmerized just watching someone else play it.
Pretty sure it's gonna be like 10 bucks.
*See note above*
I think this is a more accurate image of what he's trying to express, although both certainly do a good job. http://watchplayread.com/fi...
I don't really get this. I get that its art style is beautiful, but in games, I like there to be gameplay too. I don't want to just walk around all day long in sand. I want puzzles, enemies to fight, etc. What am I missing here besides it just looking good?
Hmm, well it's more like interactive art than more traditional games. I have yet to try Journey since I'm downloading the beta now. But if it's like flow and flower, it's mostly art.
You're missing that you don't know what you're supposed to be doing. And it's right there in the first video, in the title: Journey What's that giant mountain with light in the background? That, my friend, is your goal. Getting there is part of the puzzle. If you were familiar with TGC's other games, you'd know their games are about simplicity as much as art, and that therein lies the story. There were no puzzles in Flower or flOw. No bosses to fight. Things could eat you in flOw, but they weren't necessarily enemies. Expand your horizons a bit.
I've seen videos of it. You walk in sand and find pieces of cloth and jump around, all the while, trying to get to a mountain in the distance. I still don't get it. If I want to walk around in something beautiful, I'll go for a hike in the woods or a park. I play games to have fun and be challenged. To me, walking and jumping around in sand isn't all that fun or challenging, even if it's good looking.
I agree....the game is beautiful, but what's the point.
It's much like Flower. It's an interactive Art. But do you have any idea how kick ass it would be if this game or one that looked exactly like it had enemies. Like it could be some awesome hack and slash game. I would really just want huge bosses like in Shadow of collosus and never mind small enemies. Kind of add excitement to it and such. Who knows this is just a beta.
Looks like this isn't your type of game..
Man, this is gorgeous! Can't wait to dive in.
This is like one those games you play on a quiet sunny afternoon.
This is a great looking game and fun, so far. Can't wait for the full version.
this looks awesome wow im impressed cant wait!!!
This..is..beauty Can anyone confirm if it's running native 1080p?
As much as I want to make snide sarcastic comments about it being brown, I can't help but say instead how cool this one looks. I'll be playing this one for sure.
i will definitely download this. However it is only an extension of the flow/flower idea though. ie you float around looking pretty, bump into other pretty things which sparkle then make your pretty flowy flappy extension thing get longer and prettier triggering a few notes of ambient pling plong musak.cue occasional integrated pretty cut scene with domino tumbling like swirls of pretty shiny shimmer sparkles. If I'm honest I was hoping for something a little more different this time. surreal and beautiful is good, but it's still the same idea. one thing i do really like about these little games is that they transcend written/verbal language cultural barriers etc. I hope there are a few surprises in this game. from what i've seen though i wouldn't really call this art. It has nothing to say for itself. it's no more art than sonic the hedgehog is imo
The first thing this made me think, is 'screw those Anon hackers.'
when people ask, "can games be art?" show them this. i swear, you could take any screenshot from this game, frame it and hang it up on your wall and it would look good.
freaking beautiful man. D1B
Cant wait for the Xbox Live version
It won't TheGameCompany is under a Contract with Sony for 3 PSN Exclusive. Journey is the second game.
