Crytek's Expensive 'Gift' To Its High-End Players

When Crytek released its first-person shooter Crysis in 2007, it was -- and in many ways still is -- a benchmark for high-end PCs.

It was one of the first commercial games to utilize the Direct3D 10 framework of DirectX 10, and playing the game at its maximum settings was practically impossible for any consumer-level computer. Even the game's minimum requirements were above what many gamers had under the hood at the time.

I'm still thoroughly impressed by what Crytek managed to squeeze out of DX9. It's one of the most well optimised / best looking games I've seen.

Cannot wait for the DX11 patch and the new textures.

Peaceful_Jelly1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

optimized is not (the first Crysis). =/

evrfighter1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

Lolol gift.

So I should be thankful now? I'm sorry but this gift is to try and appease the customer base that they slapped around.
Console gamers are one hitter quitters. Crysis 2 has no legs on console and so in the end they come crawling back to pc gamers.

Btw for you console idiots that think it was a smart move. Crysis 1 was at 3 million sold well over a year ago. Crysis 2 will probably never reach that

I'll take their dx11 pack. But it sure as hell is no gift. It's now a lite version of what I thought crysis2 should be. That launch version was just a straight gimp.

"So with Crysis 2, we took a different direction, and it backfired a little bit."

Ha HA you think! actually more like backfired a LOT! idiots.

You made an even more mediocre game than the first one and then made it only DX9. Should of had a DX11 from day 1 and improved game play.

How about Crysis Warhead 2 DX11 day 1 with Crysis 1 game play as a way to apologize to PC Gamers.

When Crysis 2 is $2.99 on Steam or in a bargain bin i'll pick it up and DX11 patch it.

evrfighter you are a twat.

fluffydelusions1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

I'm not sure many people would accept this "gift" this late after release. Should have been included from the start. The MP is pretty much dead on PC. Not sure how the consoles are holding up as I only have the PC version of the game.

Crazyglues1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

Yeah it's pretty much dead on PS3 too, I keep playing the same people over and over... I would say there's about 600 or so playing on PS3.. if that much..

it's pretty dead.. as far as free for all, maybe a little more on team - but it's getting harder and harder to find full games..

Why do you post that massive PS3 thing in every post? It's rediculous and not needed at all.

Crazyglues1854d ago (Edited 1854d ago )

@ EazyC

LoL.... actually that's not how you spell it... it's ridiculous with an i not an e... it's hard to take you serious when you didn't even know how to spell ridiculous..

-but thanks for your input, your comments are now being placed into an envelope in my mind for further consideration on if it will be used on future post...

the multiplayer was handled by console has beens free radical. Of course it sucks. Its a pretty good single player game though, with no part that completely blows like when the aliens come in crysis 1.

BeastlyRig1856d ago

"So with Crysis 2, we took a different direction, and it backfired a little bit."

I am glad they admitted this.

death2smoochie1856d ago

The direction being they made Crysis 2 with consoles being the lead platform and NOT the PC...
They should have followed DICE lead...

DragonKnight1856d ago

Then they'd have a different problem of people accusing them of purposely dumbing down the other end. DICE has been met with a lot of heat from stupid people, Crytek would too.

Fishy Fingers1856d ago

DICE criticism is unjustified (as they'd know), Cryteks is (as they'd also know).

Dont think a developer is really going to care about a few PS3 fanboys throwing tantrums, especially when the majority are more than happy with the console version.

ABizzel11856d ago

From a business perspective moving the game to consoles was a wise choice. Crysis 2 sold more copies on consoles than the original did on PC. One reason is pirating on PC is light years beyond consoles. So while everyone on PC may have played it, only 1 million actually bought the game, whereas moving to consoles over 2 million people bought the game.

The problem was the PC crowd didn't pick the game up like Crysis 1, because the game wasn't maximized for the PC, and like every has said thus far this patch should have been there Day 1, since PC is where Crysis gained its roots. So while they did sell more thanks to consoles, they lost their PC audience thanks to poor judgement in designing the PC version.

Tachyon_Nova1856d ago

You people really have no idea do you. You know what Dice did that got Battlefield into the mainstream? They made Bad Company, and what platform did they abandon completely for that and the next game (1943)? You guessed it the PC.

So people get pissed at Crytek for going multiplat and still having a great looking PC version but perhaps one that didn't live up to expectations still. Dice on the other hand couldn't handle console development for the first time so they just didn't bother with PC for what was at the time one of the biggest PC franchises ever.

kevnb1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

you have to cater to your audience, whether its on ps3, pc or xbox 360. All different audiences wanting different things, its time devs and publishers realize this. Just because call of duty blew up huge on consoles doesnt mean every shooter should focus on xbox 360 now.
also, you have to know where your audience is, im looking at you bethesda.

What about a gift for the largest Crysis 2 consumer base, 360 owners. How another a fix for the grain glitch and that speaker busting sound glitch.

I've never hated a game and developer so much after initially really liking them.

Crytek deserves an award for worst customer service and longest time taken to fix serious day one issues. These amateurs probably don't even know how too.

Ducky1856d ago

Do you know what the word 'amateur' means? O.o

DragonKnight1856d ago

Lol, I'd say that Activision/Treyarch/Infinity Ward are worse for "fixes" than Crytek.

kevnb1856d ago (Edited 1856d ago )

what a broken console game that will never get fixed? Well not a big surprise, but somebody admitting it? I bet the 360 crowd actually bought less than pc, day 1 retail is probably about all they sold on consoles as those copies are still mostly on shelves.
