Uncharted 4, Gears 4: Do these games need 1080p 60FPS next gen?

This generations top games on the PS3 and 360 have brought to the table graphical enhancements consoles have never seen before. Console technology advanced greatly from the PS2 generation to now. That being said, one of the things that irks me about this generation is the framerate of many of the top games. Which begs me to ask this question: For the PS4 and Xbox 3 do Blockbuster games like Uncharted, Gears of War, and Halo need to be in 1080p 60 frames per a second?

I don't think it is an necessity but it'd definitely be nice.

crxss2311d ago

who says Uncharted 4 and Gears 4 will be on the next gen console? I can see them being on this gen, well not sure about Gears 4 but Uncharted 4 has a better chance.

solideagle12311d ago

why gamers are so concerned about FPS and resolution. gameplay matters not graphics and experience is greater than shitty multiplayer.

thanks

I would say 60 frames a second is a pipedream for the majority of console games still, outside racer and a handful of shooters.

No matter how much more performance you add next gen, developers will still prefer to squeeze the best visuals they can out and that will mean 30 frames for most games so their game looks competitive in screenshots and videos, where smoothness and speed is more difficult to convey to the masses. Everyone will follow suit.

You can add performance to the end of time in consoles and most developers pushing the visuals envelope will probably chose 30 frames as the target. Insomniac commented on this, and why they are switching to 30 frames http://kotaku.com/5393106/i... They also believe that the majority of console consumers couldn't care less, or even know the difference.

PC will probably hold a framerate advantage for many many years and the only place where you can play most everything in 60FPS, because PC often has excess power that has nowhere else to go so to speak. You have your max res of your display, and max settings, so all it can do is render more frames.

1080P is certainly a definite but the 60fps is not a "need" to have for me. 30fps locked in is more than enough imo, but it has to be locked at 30 through out.

Sprud2311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

For me it's the opposite. While higher resolution certainly is a good thing, 30 fps is just not smooth to my eyes.

Competitively speaking, fps is also much more important than resolution. Less input lag and better precision on fast movements. (Although the latter only applies when using a mouse or PS Move. Controller movements are not nearly fast enough.)

ATiElite2311d ago

Gears of War 4 will be on PC so it's gonna have 1080p support no matter what which by then more PC Gamers will be on 1600p.

30 Fps is just as good as long as it's locked and the frame rate doesn't drop during intense graphical executions. I can run COD at like over 200 Fps but it doesn't look any better than 30 FPS with vsync.

MadDonkey2311d ago

I notice the difference between 30 and 60FPS. It is really smooth to my eyes and response is very fast. 60 frames is what i would like to play games at if you are thinking ideal world

matey2310d ago (Edited 2310d ago )

well at least 4 whats its worth nintendo wii gamers got thre super smooth 60fps on nintendos triple A wii games Galaxy 1 and 2 as well as Smash bros brawl ect and Mario kart super smooth frame rates maybe nintendo want 120 fps next gen as they hit that 60fps since gamecube sony were so much into graphics they went with inferior graphics than cube and inferior frame rates nintendo are king of the smooth frame rates

SpitTake2303d ago

hey jackass the only reason that smash and kart are all weaker games compared to games like uncharted so of crose it going to run faster then uncharted

yup. not only 1080p and 60fps, but bring back great storytelling as well.

Seijoru2311d ago

You must have never touched Uncharted then.

MidnytRain2311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

@Seijoru

Uncharted isn't 1080p and I don't think it runs at 60fps.

VampiricDragon2311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

i am referring to the storytelling part.

Lets be real 99.9 percent of game stories are shit.

Gameplay is what carries most games.

evrfighter12311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

This is gonna sound weird but the story in the old republic is as crazy good as mass effect. At least for bounty hunters havnt tried sith or jedi

UC story is great IMO. I can't comment on Gears. I only played the 2nd one which I hear was lacking compared to the original.

keith-ps32311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

i think he means in more then just a few games Seijoru

pedrami912311d ago (Edited 2311d ago )

But i doubt many games would, especially 3rd party games.

If there is one thing ive learned, 60FPs is always a good thing, not saying games are bad and slow at 30FPS.

If you could play an Uncharted game at 60FPS while still maintaining it's graphical beauty, id say it would really show Naughty Gods technical prowess.

RXL2311d ago

what ever looks good is all i care about..

im pretty sure theres a point that one hits when your eyes just don't give a shit because it looks spectacular

nightmarex1212311d ago

Obviously but it also need more improving then that here a quote from John Carmack
"Sure, you can increase the resolution a bit, maybe go from 30 to 60 fps, but we're going to need to see a significant increase in hardware capabilities before anyone will be able to justify buying a whole new console."
