Battlefield 3: Does it really matter which platform you play it on?

There was outcry when the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 poked its ugly 720p head up on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. There shouldn't be. Battlefield 3 will still look awesome on console | FPS Tribe

1. It wasn't 720p, it was in Alpha and it still looked great.
2. See reason #1

Dart892316d ago

Correction it was in pre-alpha beta i believe. They said to wait for the Alpha beta.

I_find_it_funny2316d ago

all this shows how we're used to Cod's crappy visuals

Washington-Capitals2316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

It clearly doesnt console to console, but if you want the true battlefield experience you need to get in on PC. The PC version is miles better then PS3/Xbox. 64 players, dedi servers, full stat tracking, support, instant patching etc. Too bad i need to make a new PC to run it.

Series_IIa2316d ago

how can you have a pre-alpha beta? let alone an alpha beta?

Ranshak2316d ago

Pc version is def the way to go.

-Superman-2316d ago

PC version:
1)Better gameplay, mouse and keyboard
2)Bigger maps, its confrimed, console version has little maps.
3)More players, more stuff, hell yea :D
4)Better grahpic :D
5)60FPS
6)Servers, server browser. I dont like P2P system.
There are so many reason why Battlefield belongs to PC

lil Titan2316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

PS3 version no doubt, if you want your tags taken come to that system.

@Substance101 reading these comments from these "pc players" your more kids than the stereotypical 360 gamer if not worst, you all sound like gamestop employees pushing items on to people who already made up there mind on what they want to own. To each his own people

“The people to fear are not those who disagree with you, but those who disagree with you and are too cowardly to let you know.”
— Napoleon Bonaparte

Substance1012316d ago

Well not only is the PC version superior, its also got the most mature crowd. PC gamers tend to work together unlike the kids on console, which actually makes the experience all the better.

Gosh my friends when they play on console they actually have to mute everyone just so they dont hear the kids screaming.

bloodybutcher2316d ago

@ Substance101
is that backed up bz some research?i,for example, while playing bfbc2 online, always play in the squad with my gf and some friends,we always try to help others however we can.and just because there are some gamers who tend to go solo,or vocally abuse others,it doesnt mean that all console gamers do that.you have ppl like that on pc as well, you know.or perhaps you dont.

captain-obvious2316d ago

yes it does matter
and yes i'll play it on PC

Washington-Capitals2316d ago

MOST IMPORTANTLY! The PC version doesnt have the exclusive pre order DLC fiasco that the console version are having. On PC people can easily share the codes.

stu8882316d ago

don't matter for me. I'm a student, skint and would rather buy a 3D tv than a new £1000 PC to get this game as good as everyone else is saying.

PS3 it is. As long as it looks better than Bad Company 2 I will be very happy!

Heartnet2315d ago

Doesnt mean there going to reskin all the characters and environments and up the polygon count Lol..

All this mean is they need to test for bugs and shiz haha they may improve lighting ever so slightly but this is what it will look like..

BattleAxe2315d ago

Well if BF3 doesn't get released on Steam, then I'll be getting the PS3 version.

reynod2316d ago

Why limit your experience on purpose, get the PC version ;-) no need to be limited lol.

Styxoric2316d ago

Same, getting a copy for me and my brother.

Can't wait.

KRATOS-PS32316d ago

Lol, why sould I limit my experience by buying it for PS3? I don't have a gaming PC. I play on PS3. I love Dualshock and PS3. Maybe your limited in other areas.

Substance1012316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

@Kratos

You pretty much limited your gaming experience by not having a gaming PC.

godsinhisheaven2316d ago

If you have a pc that can handle the game better than a console, feel free to buy it on PC. Console gamers will naturally purchase the console version. What's up with the disagrees ?

Snakefist302316d ago

Well my pc is limited and I am gonna buy the ps3 version!

phoenixdown2316d ago

so ps3 for me. inb4 snobby pc gamers ruin the fun and judge my preference.

bloodybutcher2316d ago

getting it on ps3 as well, will be a blast to play^^

stu8882316d ago

@ Substance

PS3 limited gaming experience, don't joke!

eg. Uncharted series, Killzone, MGS4!, God of War, GT 5, Infamous, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire...

All those great games, and more... you won't find them on PC buddy.

radphil2316d ago

@stu888

And yet people still go for that over actual logical descriptions, and instead jump the bandwagon of rallying behind people on this site.

The irony of this all, is that the console has parts of a PC.

-Superman-2316d ago

Does it really matter which platform you play it on?
For me, Yes
No need Disagree, i dont hate consoles, i still love Uncharted and Gears of War, great games and grahpic graphic.
For Battlefield 3, i take PC version, 64 players, better gameplay, servers, better grahpic and bigger maps.

frostypants2315d ago (Edited 2315d ago )

This article makes two mistakes:
1) The texture quality of that BF3 screenshot is clearly below that in the Killzone 3/Uncharted 3 screens. No cross-platformer on the PS3 will ever look as good as a game programmed specifically with the PS3 hardware in mind, and this won't be an exception. It will look good. It won't look UC3 good.
2) He implies that resolution (1080p vs. 720p) and framerate are the only graphical advantage to the PC version. I *highly* doubt this. The PC will likely have better textures, lighting, and animation.

I am super excited for this game, but both sides of this graphics argument are going off the rails. Did DICE mislead some gamers if only by their relative silence on the console version (until the unveil last week)? Yes. Does the PC version look better? Yes. Will the console version be the best looking console game ever? No. Will it look bad? No. Will it be the best looking cross-platformer? Probably.

And the most important question: will the game be awesome on all platforms? YES.

Stop worrying.

Focker4202316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

It actually does. If you want a higher player count then you need to play it on the PC. Buying a game simply for a slight graphical improvement is stupid if you ask me. If you don't care about the player difference then just buy it for your preferred system. Easy enough.

evrfighter2316d ago

yup cuz you know the 64 player maps are gonna be bigger crammed with tons more armor and airfields full of jets and choppers

im guessing console versions will get the 16-32 player size maps like bf2

Spitfire_Riggz2316d ago

I agree. There is obviously more than one difference between the PC and Console version

frostypants2315d ago (Edited 2315d ago )

Depends on your PC to some extent, now doesn't it? But if you've got a solid PC, yeah.

Shackdaddy8362316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

Unless you need a higher player count, greater draw distance, better graphics, and possibly bigger maps then no, it doesn't matter.

There is nothing wrong with getting the console version though. You will still have plenty of fun.

rob_gamestribe2316d ago

Ah the multiplayer - the only real marked difference (gameplay wise) between the PC and console versions.

kharma452316d ago

That and keyboard and mouse which is a lot more accurate than a DS3.

Pl4sm42315d ago

keyboard and mouse sucked since 2000 .... gamepads/controllers are the way to game ... instead of having an orgy of keyboard buttons and a gaping mouse

stu8882316d ago

hope you've got a good enough PC to play it on...

Shackdaddy8362316d ago

I sure hope I do. Lately from the pictures and videos I am starting to think that this will be the first game I can't max out on...

frostypants2315d ago (Edited 2315d ago )

Two benefits consoles have that is generally overlooked:
1) Less hackers, and no need for gimpy solutions like Punkbuster. I've yet to run into any BFBC2 hackers on PSN.
2) Having a uniform control scheme and uniform hardware helps level the playing field.

I'm not denying the PC benefits. Just saying consoles do have some of their own. And while the mouse is indeed more accurate, when everyone has the same controls, you don't notice it (well I don't anyway).

@Shackdaddy836: Yeah, BF2 was similar in that very few people could max it out when it first hit the shelves. It sure was purty if you could though (for the time).

fluffydelusions2316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

I'm still not sure which platform to get it on, PC or PS3. I hope they release a MP beta to the public like MOH so I can see if my PC can handle it.

jdfoster002316d ago

Did you watch E3? They announced they will be releasing a BETA FOR ALL PLATFORMS in September :) This, on the kimmy fallon show was pre-alpha footage remember. If you've got the money get it on pc (need money for right pc, powerful enough to run it) and also I prefer playing with analoge sticks (ps3 pad) and not mouse - personal preference ...

Nes_Daze2316d ago

I'll get BF3 on my PS3, no need to over complicate things just for a bit better graphics and a higher play count.

Pandamobile2316d ago

You the kind of person who can't handle anything beyond inserting a disk into a slot and pressing play?

Ranshak2316d ago (Edited 2316d ago )

Lol my 12 year old brother plays on PC and finds it more convenient in comparison to console.

No need to worry about disks. Click game on Steam "play". Much easier then finding disks all the time, good riddance.

@gloom_nes

Cant be hard if a 12 year old finds it easy.

rob_gamestribe2316d ago

Maybe he's the kind of person who owns a PS3, and not a PC, eh? That might explain his platform of choice. Exactly why does it require you to start hurling petty, baseless insults his way? Grow up.

AKissFromDaddy2316d ago

@Pandamobile
lol, that is funny.

Solid_Snake-2316d ago

lol spot on. PC version for me no doubt. think we should start a N4G clan on BFBC2 for PC and then take over BF3 when it arrives.

Nes_Daze2316d ago

And your the kind of person that thinks so highly of pc gaming? I said "over complicating" because my pc is not a gaming pc. I would have to buy the latest graphics card, some RAM, etc. I prefer to play BF3 on my PS3 with my PSN friends, is that a problem?

Spike472316d ago

Please learn to accept the fact that not everyone buys PC games and crazy high spec PC rigs in order to talk out of their ass...
